Since 夜想曲 means "nocturne," I wonder if they'll actually pronounce it as "Nocturne (Nokutaan)" instead of "Yasoukyoku," like how the previous title pronounced 輪舞曲 as "Rondo" instead of "Rinbukyoku."

Well if Nocturne is a style of music composed to movements dealing with night the title is implying that it’s the darker side of truth and illusion. Which makes sense seeing as eps 7/8 deal with what is the truth and what is hidden with in the lies and truth people tell.

Much like how the first game’s subtext was Rondo of the Witch and Reasoning. Rondo being a form of music/dance composed of four movements. With witch and reasoning being taken as Battler deducing his way through 4 movements a.k.a eps trying to prove Beatrice wasn’t real.

It's kinda interesting if you look at it from a music stand point, both titles have styles of music. One meaning something of 4 movements not used much anymore and Nocturne normally spanning 2-4 movements but is used still compared to a rondo.

I personally love the cover for the first game. The second cover depends on what the colour is going to be...of course they'd use Ange and Eva-Beatrice, but I hope the colours will match. And I'm pretty excited considering they already inserted slots for vol. 3 and vol. 4 announcing they will be EP5 & 6 and EP7 & 8.

It's not official. That edited sprite has been around for a long time. It's easy to tell it's a photoshopped sprite of Bernkastel through the linework of her dress... and I highly doubt they would re-use Bernkastel's pose for Erika. =P

I really do think Aya Hirano would be an awesome choice, but I really have to wonder where the desire started. Of course, let's not rule out the possibility of Yukari Tamura doing it (what with Erika being made in Bern's image and all), even if the news of Ryukishi07 saying he has found a voice for her means it's more likely to be different.

Maaya Sakamoto is one of my thoughts for Lion as well, but only because of her role as Soul Eater's Crona, another character infamous for gender ambiguity. Then again, there are plenty of choices for people who can play characters with ambiguous genders. But I think it'd be someone other than Sayaka Ohara, since Lion's physical appearance is only assumed on Bernkastel's part, so I'd assume Lion's voice would be assumed to be different as well.

I too think Ohara would be fitting for Claire, as well as Bice. Of course, Daisuke Ono should also play young Kinzo. Still, this is all just speculation...

New information about Umineko Chiru for PS3 seems to have surfaced.
Alchemist seems to have set the release date for December 15th 2011, the price will be 8379 Yen. There's no news about a special edition yet, but I bet there will be one.

The game includes Full Voice like the first one, but not only that. They also seem to develop 80 new BGM tracks besides the original tracks which will be all included as it appears. I assume some of them might replace the songs that were used in some places. Did the PS3 version of the first four feature the same endings as the PC version? I always asked that to myself...

The opening appears to be performed by Zwei and be called イナンナの見た夢 (Inanna no mita yume)...but that seems to be more like a rumour.

It didn't sound like they are planning to remove aything, rather like they want to either improve on certain scenes (enter something they couldn't finish on time maybe...or they'll introduce some new stuff in this game. Who knows.

This is even more obvious with the chopsticks scene and the discovery of the gold scene (expecting something way more exhibiting confidence etc).

But aside of that, the design of the chiru characters is really really clumsy as hell: Erika's head isn't exactly "constant" and I can't help but wonder what's up with Zepar and Furfur anatomy... and their pose are extremely "rigid" looking.

Except it is extremely rare to redo sound and voice recording, especially the latter because of Seiyuu's harsh schedule.
While sprite might be changed a little bit, it is also very unlikely considering how close the release date is.

Rondo certainly didn't have any change, as far as I could remember from the PV compared to the game.

Whilst Dlanor was rendered correctly (albeit still plagued by that weird shade/texture), Erika has really proportions going left and right.
I didn't expect a design similar to Bernkastel whatsoever, but for a prominent antagonist for 2 episodes, she sure was designed in a sloppy way. It is as awkward as the other "non main characters".

Well, I heard their voices in Ougon Musou Kyoku, so I was prepared for this. They were played by Mitsuki Saiga (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=411) (Zepar) and Eri Sendai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=5035) (Furfur) in that game, so it sounds like they're back; incidentally, they're the only voice actors for Chiru characters who I feel I can be absolutely certain of in this game.

Oddly enough, Mitsuki Saiga was the original drama CD voice of Satoshi from Higurashi before being replaced in the anime by Yuu Kobayashi who is, incidentally, the voice of Kanon. I've never heard Saiga as Satoshi, but I know she's capable of using a higher, more youthful pitch (I have her role as Rossiu in Gurren Lagann to thank for that).

Why can't they just use Sayaka Ohara for Yasu? I mean, it's Yasu who ends up becoming Beatrice as she usually looks. Plus I'm sure she could pull off a perfectly fine, androgynous-sounding child's voice.

So, then, she could use a different voice. Or maybe even the voice she uses in the PS3 game, which is ever so slightly different than the one she used for young-Beato in the anime. Then again, Yasu is supposed to be so frail that she comes across as six years old, which I'd say is around Beato's age range in that one scene.

My point is, Sayaka Ohara has a very flexible voice judging from other roles she has performed, and thus should not be judged solely on a single role, particularly one that, as expressive as it is, does not cover every single expression or voice style known to man simply because it is only one character capable of so much.

Eh, I hate to sound like a crash here, but I am not quite fond of the voices for Erika and Dlanor.


I imagined Dlanor's voice to be a little more....robotic, and not cute sounding like it is. It's a good voice, but it just didn't feel so right for her, but this is only my opinion.

Erika's, well I was pretty sure her voice would be like that, but I hoped her voice would feel like it had more authority like Bernkastels, now SHE had a good voice.


Plus, due to the all the letters at the end of Dlanor's sentence being capitalized(not sure if that's because she shouted it but) it really made me sad how she didn't shout at the end of her sentences.

I also was not too fond of Erika's appearance, the expression where she's looking at you, makes her look WAYYYYY too young, I'm not talking 13, it's kinda creepy.

That being said, Dlanor looks nice, and the artwork for everything else looks great. Zepars voice is a bit of a giveaway....but I guess it's nice that the question gets answered.

Klashi, you said you didn't like Zepar and Furfur's art? Is it the poses they do? They make hearts with their arms being locked together with a giant X in it.

Her way of speaking was different in the Japanese version, I believe. I guess Witch Hunt just decided to interpret it by using the capitals since it might not have been something that could directly translate into English.

Someone that reads the novels in Japanese can probably explain this better than I can.

It's not only the vocal level that changes, but it also gets a sort of double meaning. Katakana are usually used to write foreign words that have been incorporated into the Japanese language like Sutorîtosutairu (ストリートスタイル) which is the equivalent to the English Streetstyle or Shaukasuten (シャウカステン) which is taken from the German word Schaukasten (but means something totally different as in German it's a display case, in Japan it's the lightened up board on which doctors look at X-rays).　

DESU (デス) is also how you write DEATH in Katakana. Which underlines Dlanors position. This is also used in the scene where she actually goes almost insane and starts shouting DESU/DEATH all over the place.
This is funny because desu (です) is normally a polite way to speak with somebody and is considered rather calm and collected.

Zepar and Furfur - As since OMK/Goldist OST, I don't have any problem with Zepar's voice, as I think it sounds perfectly androginous in how could be a man's or a woman's voice. However, Furfur's voice sounds too much like a woman in my opinion; it's way too high for even a small child. Something around Sakutaro's range, if not Satoshi/Kanon, would be more plausable. But, whatever, it's not a glaring issue I have.

I have to admit, it feels weird to see the good backgrounds and a not-derpy Beatrice I and Kinzo. Can't wait to hear Lion's and Will's voices!

I think I've been unduly influenced by that doujin voice drama project group who did Umineko. They did a very good job of Dlanor, who sounded very cute and monotone. When she wasn't frothing at the mouth trying to kill someone that is; she sounded very cute and crazy when that happened.

I kinda agree about Erika though. I think the problem is not so much that she's too soft or anything. The first few lines are fine, but when she starts bragging about herself, I expected her voice to have a lot more (over)confidence in it. Oh, and I agree, it's probably the same voice actress as the one who played Asakrua Ryoko...

Zepar still gives me nightmares. I know everyone's mentioned before about the voice actress. She appears to be the same one from the fighting game. I know she does young-boy roles before but for some reason the way she does this one just triggers the 'man' image in my mind... ;__; I like the doujin voice drama project Zepar more for that reason.

Ryuukishi doesn't think the pc version had a bad closure at all. And he stated quite clearly his will to never give an answer that can be "copypasted".
Additionally the text of the past remake was absolutely identical to the original.

I see very little chances that the PS3 chiru remake will have any original content apart from the sound and the graphic.

However good Sawashiro is, she doesn't have any role that represent quite well a character like Dlanor.
Her range is limited due to her natural soft voice, so her yelling isn't always convincing (few passages as Carl Clover from Blazblue do not really fit).

I'm saying that Miyuki Sawashiro, while not entirely famous, is extremely flexible. It would have to be Yukari. As you said the ruffles don't match, the hair is different...and the facial expression looks so much like Ange. Considering she has the key...it must be post-event Ange/Yukari...this really makes me wonder.

Looking back, the guys at Witch Hunt did say that 黄金郷, which they translated as "Golden Land," can also be translated to "El Dorado," the legendary city of gold. I'm kind of guessing that's like a semi-official translation of the term.

Well, I agree that an artbook with the promotional NSFW or such pics wouldn't be what I'm interested in. They are indeed not very good quality. But I was thinking that it'd contain actual game CGs and stuff. They would be nice to flip through in a big artbook. Meaningless in a way, as you say, because they're in-game already (do the PS3 games have a CG gallery?), but just to flip through. :p

Not getting it isn't exactly an obstacle of purchase (like not owning a PS3 is), but extras like that are fun.

You sure they said that? I only remember them saying something about blahblah, every game must have dubbing, if they are to be released in NA.

But even if they did say that...They wouldn't be the ones to publish them anyway. So what's their business who buys what license? And also, it's not for them to decide what is game and what's not, damnit.
But that aside, having a VN translated for a home console would be a truly surprising occurrence which I have not very high hopes for.
But we are getting Hakuouki released for a PSP, which is a Sony console too, so maybe there is a hope for the future.

Maybe, but there's a few VN titles for PSP already that I can think of off the top of my head. They might just be more comfortable distributing them for hand-held consoles than the regular consoles.

Corpse Party is like a VN, but then again, that game has actual exploration and direct interaction with the environment like a 16-bit RPG (it is a remake of a game that was based on another game that was built on an RPG system, after all).

It's really annoying. If you have nothing to say about the game itself and are just complaining that you can't read Japanese and Sony won't let you have it in America because they're so evil, either study harder in weaboo class or just don't post.

If stuff from the Fate franchise can sell,
then there should be some marked for Umineko as well,
for example if someone like Rockin' Android where to start by releasing Ougon on PSN/XBL or something. Or at least if someone dubbed the anime,
even if it isn't a good adaptation, it'll be better than going straight for the heavy source material who many would pass up simply because of length.
So start with something simpler that can sprout interest.

Personally? No, I don't think the actual Umineko VNs will ever be localized,
at the very least I'm holding out for Ougon/X/Cross,
but I won't say 'it definitely will not happen' either when there are people like the petitioners who's trying to show their numbers
and there are publishers who take interest in such things nowadays.

and 18 otherwise, so I never found shipping costs to be an issue either.

Not quite sure I'm following you, I was merely stating objectively what I thought in regards to localization of the remakes overseas.
All I'm saying is if things like Fate/Extra which is 70% text can find a market over here,
as well as with the possibility of using the fighting titles or the anime as an introduction test overseas, saying that it definitely won't happen ever is a bit harsh.
While I'm not personally rooting for it, the petitioners are trying to show their numbers in hope of getting the PS3/PSP remakes overseas,
and I don't want to sneer on their efforts even if it seems too much to expect any developer to break the ice in regards to pure VNs overseas at this point in time.
And even if it did happen, Umineko would certainly not be one of the first picks in terms of popularity.

While I can't talk for the entire forum, I've bought both EP1-4 and 5-8 and not once have I spoken ill of WH's translation efforts,
and I believe most of the forum is the same, the less thankful ones merely stand out more.

After rewatching the trailer, Erika's voice at 1:43 where she summons Dlanor really seems to fit. I also love Erika's voice and sprite at 2:08. Any doubt that the voice actor completely disappeared. I love Dlanor's troll-pose at 2:33. I can just see her going "DIE THE DEATH!" like that. But i'm still unsure about her voice actor.

Considering that Zepar and Furfur are meant to be completly genderless, I don't like them having a voice, but it's well done and very over-the-top like it should be. Burnkastel's voice actor also steals the show at 5:14.

I hope videos of it will turn up somewhere, even though it's in Japanese. It would be awesome to hear more of their voices. It almost feels like it's the experience Umineko was meant to have.
