Always good to go through old bookmarks like once per year. I saw a series that stopped in like 2011 suddenly start up again five years later....
@Ruki, some series can make those insane stats work (when plot based fighting goes vs Godly figures), though I read like 20 chapters and he's already surpassed like 400 chapters of content of what other TUEEE do in that time, it's like a less detailed more bland version of Slave Harem Labyrinth (when that is already pretty bland), I'm actually reading this just to see how it has 345 chapters with how fast paced it moves.

Everything from meeting the King, getting sent to defeat an ancient dragon, defeating it, bringing it back and being thrown out of the country takes literally 2 chapters half the size of 1 slave harem chapter.
The first heroine slave is bedded by like the 2nd day(after trusting her perfectly on the first then releasing her), and he nearly pistol whips the second heroine for being an annoying fuck.
No seriously... where is the author going with this in 345 chapters?!

See I never understood the rage from Usagi Drop, from the start it always drew clear lines he wasn't a father to her, the grandfather was her "father". The MC considered himself her fatherly figure which is why he took it so much harder later, but there was no relation there at all other than pity and self-satisfaction. From his PoV making her happy was his raison'd as well either way.
It was fun as hell before all the revelations came out with the whole incest thing and drawing all sorts of debates on what kind of taboos it was though... potential incest + age gap + taking care of her from such a young age/grooming, hit so many people in the wrong way.
I forget the exact feel of the relationship in uchi no musume, though I'm pretty sure it was even more vague than Usagi, especially with the age gap being much closer. Same as Usagi the heroine never considers the MC as a fatherly figure, it was just the MC one-sidedly trying to convince himself he was her father.

Pretty generic reincarnation setup, but a decent time waster. Don't expect anything amazing though. What I liked was that his cheat(unique skill) was powerful without being ridiculous, but it suffers from creeping into lol overpowered too early in other respects. So best to take it as a comedy.

魔術系統

魔術を起動させるための動作。手続きで言うのなら、申請、受理、審査、発行のうち、最初の申請 である。
大別して二つあり、一つには、「門派ごとの魔術基盤に働きかける約束事」である呪文がある。一流派として安 定した魔術を使用する際は、定められた形式通りに手順を踏まねばならない。その時の決まった言葉が呪文であ り、「形式」であるため身振り等の他の要素も関わる場合もある。基本的には「世界に訴えかける」もので、大 呪文、大儀式の類。

黒魔術
黒魔術（くろまじゅつ、英: black magic）とは、
文化人類学で定義される邪術とほぼ同義とされる。黒呪術ともいう。
他人に危害を与えるための技。不道徳な魔術を呼ぶ際の蔑称。
自己の欲求・欲望を満たすために行われる魔術のこと。

属性とは、魔術師個人が持つ、その魔術師がどのような特性の魔術と相性が良いか・どのような特性を持ちやす いかを定める要素。西洋魔術の世界では一般的に、五大元素（地、水、火、風、空）に二つの架空元素（虚、無 ）を加えた七つの種類を属性としている。

I just created the definition of what magic is that I'm going to give for free when an author writes a cheap and un imaginative magic system. (Took me a week)
Some of you might think I'm going too far but this is something that really triggers me

^^ That looks nice and all, but that looks like it can only be used as a reference since that kind of setting for a magic system is a tad selective in the stories it can actually be used in. Sure there are a few aspects that could be borrowed/used, but I doubt it'll ever actually get used as is.

You have to look on it from the other hand, the basics of low fantasy magic are so well established and so well known, that there is no reason to spend thoasands of characters on introducing it. Of course there are some guys that just go too short on the introduction (like 1 sentence), but there is just no need to owerdo it.
If you place something like the article you wrote on the beginning of a novel, most readers are gonna just scan through it (and don't remember anything) in the best scenario and outright leave bored in the worst (I actually read about half of it and then I found myself skipping whole sentences so did not continue reading).
I am not saying I dislike decriptive novels. There are Yaritsukai and Mahouka among my favourite novels, which both are extremely descriptive. The problem is, that you have to place it cleverly in the middle of the story and give the reader only small parts of it at a time, but it has to compete for space with world building (countries, geology, history) and other things. So most people just skip on the magic with "It's the well known standard, you known what I mean, right?" and focus on the other elements, which prevents the story from getting too half assed in every aspect or just boring.

Most basic introductory courses to novel writing would strongly suggest to avoid such info dumps (and how to do it better). Or at least, only do it if you're doing it intentionally so that it fits within the general style of the novel you're intending to write - for example, if you're writing a story from the viewpoint of an "all-knowing storyteller" then something like that can be okay, but that style is generally not used any more.
I don't have any aspirations to be an author but I've listened to some suggestions from experts out of curiosity. Based on that, a lot of the WNs I've read (nearly all) have basic failings, unfortunately. Not much different from fan-fiction. I try to by as sympathetic as possible since it's not possible to become a decent author without a lot of time and effort. What's annoying is a lot of these kinds of basic failings seem to be accepted and not often fixed in LN versions.
Cabman doesn't intend to write a novel. He just wanna bash authors who don't follow his definition of "magic". By linking them to that page maybe.

Well Type-Monn like magic is funny and all, but quite unvieldly for most series. It forces the authors to focus too much on the secretivness and the magic is kind of weak iin the end compared to how much focus and work it has to get. Also kind of not suited for any light herted adventure series (which are most of WNs now).
But speaking about magic definitions, have anyone seen something similar to MKnR style? I would think that with all the popularity this series had the system would get copied left and right, but I have yet to see single series going that path.
Yea, the magic in most WN is extremely practical, not mysterious like Type-Moon. Magic in Vermillion is impractical too, but it makes the novel great. But not all authors can do that.
Mahouka is too complicated, more like SF than magic. Teleporter is similar to that while also including classic definition of magic.
Magic exist man, sorcery on the other hand hardly does.
we call 'Magic' nowadays as Science.

Some thoughts on writing/creating magic systems by a professional fantasy author.
Well old fantasies used to have the inpractical definition of magic, but modern fantasies usually have the practical one, and that's what's making it so popular. It's hard to make a good misterious fantasy book and not let the reader think "Well, nice, but why should I care?" which is the reason why curent fantasy mixes it up with romance or other elements (this however makes it much harder for the magic to be so misterious as that would need too much focus and place in the novel).
But leaving aside whether some magic does or doesen't exist, I don't think it would matter so much if the magic existed (the RPG style that most WN use). It might be cool that you can make nice fireballs, but it would be of little importance in a fight against machineguns or just plain assault rifle (not even speaking about bombers, fighter jets etc.) most likely it would come down to blocking each other's magic anyway.

Yes OP, No Harem, No sex.
It was realllllllllly slow for the start, he takes drugs(object X) which make it so he can't level up at all but basically gets growth cheats the longer he takes it. When he finally stops taking his drugs and levels up he's super OP.
Super hetare, limited heroines, romance doesn't come out until forever. Plot wise is slightly amusing though other than the usual growth cheat type adventure.

But yeah, his harem is literally one consisting of old men.
I was mildly enjoying it until the author started doing NAISEI stuff for a good while.
Don't get me wrong, I think NAISEI can be interesting.
Just this author's take on it was boring.
When I stopped reading during the Naisei stuff, the protagonist had strengths others didn't have (healing and resistances out the ass), but was still weak as an overall fighter.
The protagonist himself also, like a salaryman, doesn't particularly have an interesting personality.
That said, like a lot of other salarymen, it's not particularly annoying either.

Same as sasuke, I really liked it how the mc was living his life and had pretty much no way out other than trying his damn hardest. I also loved that he is a healer, and the story handled that properly (like, he has to cope with the problem of having no freaking offensive capabilities, and he gets no random bullshit to compensate about it, part of the reason of why he has to try so hard).
There are several reincarnated people on the world, but they are slowly building theri lives like the mc, so they haven't had any sort of clash yet. Oh, and we have been told that there is meant to be a hero, who isn't the MC.
The ossans are, of course; way cooler and more interesting than any silly bouncy empty headed heroine.
^ But what about cunning, smart, (pettanko) loli-babas? I would say they are much better than ossans :heh: .

Why is it that the longer series get, the longer the battles become? Most series have nice short (1-3 chapters at most) battles with some interesting elements, but after getting through something like 100 chapters the battles start to get longer and longer making them more and more boring.
Also, I have to say that the status gets really irritating later on. It is nice and all in the beginning, but if the MC has kantei (evaluation?) reading the status of enemies that have 100 skills starts to get irritating. Also authors mostly skip them getting new skills or getting higher level skills and just show them right in the fights, which is kind of meh

Nooooooo, Kumo-chan too goes this way. I don't want to read about another 100 heroes and heroies, I want to read about the actual MC. I still could stand the ocasional side stories (though the different timelines are pretty bothersome, but interesting anyway) but from about chapter 200 it gets full power on the other guys and even if there is a chapter with the MC she is kind of sidecharacterish and most of the story turns around the people around her... oh geez.
Edit: I have to say, the humour is good enough for me not to care I guess. Especially when Kumo-chan comes on scene.

NTR start to revenge plot, had some interesting twists, it's not very detailed and thus a quick read (the main part of the revenge is already completed). It wasn't completely satisfying to me revenge wise, but had one of the more unique developments I've seen, which is why it wasn't bad.
It's rare to see one of these revenge series that actually come full circle. Even if it wasn't perfect.

Some of the more readable series I've read over the past 6-12 months, unfortunately, a lot of them are pretty meh so I've only read 20-50-100~ chapters of most of them. I think others might find some of them more interesting than me.
n2802di - is there a lot to this or nothing at all, it has tons of chapters and actually seems to pace through events reasonably well, but every chapter uses the minimum character count so it's actually kind of mediocre... About a cheat summoner.
n2695ck - the names... just the names.... ニート・デ・ドゥーティ・コミュショー・ナ・オータク Yes, seriously. This one has some dark/drama based scenes, is kind of a vague mix of everything, knights, battles, harem, drama, etc... it's not one of the best I've read but it isn't terrible either.
n8803cr - slave harem labyrinth simplified, because you didn't know it was possible to make slave harem labyrinth any less complex than it already was.... I was fine reading slave harem labyrinth though this one was just a hard read compared despite sharing similarities.
n9463cg - there is so much WTF to this series I don't even want to get into it, despite it actually being pretty amusing at times. First off if you read this read the first few chapters then skip to 27, because after introducing the first 50 characters in 26 long chapters the world ends and it starts over at 27 with all the older characters dead except the main heroine and the MC. Second the MC is a male high elf with large breasts. Because elves men including all have large lactating breasts in this series. Beyond that it's a weird mix of sci-fi and high fantasy with battles, naisei, and harem, pretty dark at times.
n9968ce - A dark reincarnation TUEEE series that starts from baby and only gets up to about 10-12 like those series usually go, not bad, but not really great either.
n7257df - comedy where the god of darkness gets tired of heroes coming to try and kill him every 100 years and decides to try and figure out why they keep coming by becoming a TUEEE harem hero himself. Comedy is hit and miss at times, but not bad.
n1847de - mana cheat reincarnation from a baby type, though the MC is TS, and actually goes full circle with lesbian heroines/sex later, if you like the usual TUEE and aren't a lesbian hating hentaiga it's not bad. Also can get pretty dark at times.
n4508dh - inflating power levels type TUEE harem, not bad for the genre, but not much else to say about it.
n7337db - the usual XX monster type evolver story with stats where MC becomes a golem, not the best on that end, but it wasn't too terrible either, I found myself skimming portions of it though...
n3339da - this, this, this, probably one of the better series I've read lately, unfortunately, there's no sex, the mix of a skill system, adventure, naisei, plot, and developments are done really well. Some series can make the crappiest cheats insanely OP, this series can make the most OP cheat the weakest crap in the world. MC starts out slave in this one and while he remains MC-ish, he basically gets picked up by a justice freak female knight who is the "leader" of their party and while it turns semi-haremish, the knight sometimes feels more like the MC with the MC being her supporter until much later on.
n5476dh - what actually happens when you go isekai TUEEE, parents attempt to sell you to slave dealer, you kill the entire village, get wanted as a thieving devil child, massacre all the assassins/bounty hunters sent after you as your bounty raises daily and you realize you can trust no one, you can end up exiling yourself to dungeons so as to escape all people who just want to use/kill you. Haven't actually read all of it, but was some pretty dark depressing shit if you like that. (also has a nocturne version though I'm not too sure on the differences)

n2844dj - because there's not enough isekai hot springs series, at first I thought I was reading a re-written version of that other one where the hero splits off from the other heroes because of his bath ability, though it's actually a completely different series. Pretty much the same as that one though, not done as well, but not so limited in what the MC does either.
n5169dj - there are seriously never enough evolvers out there. This is another pretty mediocre one though, I think it's meant to be more comedy focused. MC is a vampire that hatches from an egg in a labyrinth for some reason? From there on shit just gets even more crazy than vampires hatching from eggs.
n1010cb - so there's an isekai and we have the usual corrupt noble who enslaves all of his people, rapes their daughters/wives, tortures, kills, and generally is an isekai noble. The people are all especially fucked because he's backed by some sort of devil god dragon that enjoys his ways. As part of their usual playing with peoples lives they decide to try summon shit from other worlds with sacrifices and the noble accidentally dies, oops. So the devil god dragon decides to replace the noble with a random isekai high schooler. MC looks exactly like the noble and has to take over naisei from there dealing with hate from everyone and a generally pretty fucked up devil watching from over his shoulder trying to get the MC to act like the noble. I give points to this one because in the same situation I have no idea WTF I would do, but pretty dark at times with focus mostly on naisei/war.
n0088di - TUEE card master adventure. If you like stats/gacha card decks it's a decent read, but nothing great so far, some stuff drags out...
n1698dj - Probably the most sexist series I've ever read, ever. It deserves to be read just for managing that feat. That the MC in this is a total fucking hetare baffles me even more than everything else in this one. Despite the fact that I can't actually think of anything good about it, I still managed to read all of it, I guess pretty smooth writing/developments?

Yeah, I'm not a fan of school/sf/space/gundam/modern/love comedy series, or rather I could probably find better anime/manga of most of those I haven't seen if I felt like them so I mostly do isekai WN. (Some exceptions like Real Level)
It's been getting hard to find decent ones lately though... might need to find a new hobby for a year or two.
Yeah the elves are pretty WTF in that one, he takes on a job as a wet nurse as well during the first 26 chapters. Beyond that there was like no purpose to his breasts at all and it has literally 0 effect on plot other than every female character hating/being jealous of him.
The overall plot in it has so many aspects to it as well, I have no idea what the author was doing with it, not even mentioning how he completely reset the plot at chapter 27. It is really one of the more "unique" series I've seen though...

The MC is very likable and smart as well. Part 1 completed now the author make the second Part.
- n9804di: A boy along with his class got involved in hero summoning. The MC got the lowest status among all the summoned hero but his skill is cheat. Gacha skill. No harem only two loli which is his familiar well it might change later
- n1024cq: The son of a former hero and the daughter of the former Maou, the story would revolve around these two. Note not isekai it take place in real world Japan.
- n6421dd: Class summoning, the rest of the class got super cheat that help that growth, the MC only got a single skill. But later he will fund out that his skill is the skill that help him become the strongest. Note a bit dark and the MC naive way of thinking piss me off.
- n0398dd: Some magician that one day got killed in his fight against his rival, when he opened his eye he back ten year in time in his younger body. The MC OP, but his rival is even more OP. He got no harem, instead he got pervert and idiot hanging around him.
- n4317by: Some young man with main character like trait got summoned into another world, with his battle experience he had from back in earth he manage to return back. But only a day later he got involved with another summoning this time along with his 2 best friends. The MC OP as hell he basically God Slayer, Dragon Slayer, Demon God Slayer, etc.
- n4002cv: Class summon, the whole class killed as they arrived. All reincarnated the MC had his memory and reincarnated as a Demon. MC becoming OP is still long.

If you have some background in anime I would suggest what Kaito said, though I use furigana (hiragana ower the original text) instead of romaji, it's easier to read and you can learn the kanji that way (not that I do, but whatever). Translation Aggregator + mecab is a good combo for that.
Otherwise JP-EN google translation, but you are risking brain damage that way (a good way how to level up chaos/madness immunity if you are in other world though).

It's unfortunate that I've become so picky, there are a lot of things that mean an instant drop of a novel to me and even if it's okay in all other aspects if it drags on for a bit I get bored. That's exactly what I use, but I haven't been able to force myself to read with furigana long enough until it becomes easy to read... Whenever I try to switch from romaji to furigana to get used to it I get bored in 30 minutes because I can read romaji so much faster.
^ That's just a bit getting used to I guess. I started with furigana and read it now quite fast (faster than romaji as there are less characters to read), would be hard to get used to romaji for me. But yeah, I tried reading using only kanji + something to furiganize the words I did not know (trying to force myself to read the actual kanji and go 1 level further in japanese) but got bored soon too, that's the same I guess.

Oukoku, while matching the criteria the best, is just stupid if you are there for the world conquering and not for the crazy harem farce.
Item cheat has gunns even in the synopsis (why guns in fantasy ???) so I did not even try reading it.

He says it often but actually does the opposite most of the time soon after that, the amount of time he spends slacking off isn't that long chapters wise, though they were really annoying chapters.
The current point it's at he's like 13-14 and taking leave from school to go off adventure for reasons. (he's already settled fight with his childhood friend in a reallllly long tournament)
Having said that there were some other parts that annoyed me, I don't care for the brooding background behind it which involves lost memories/personalities and the tournament chapter dragged out a bit for how well the pace was for the rest. Also damn hetare.

Be relieved, the whole hiding his strength/holding back thing doesn't happen often and it's not going to be a trend. He has small episodes like when his rival has to train for knight school(since training then was "cheating") and his first year of school(where he was trying to get rid of his loner status), but for the most part he's surrounded by other monsters so he can't afford to hold back too much.
This series was good comedy as long as you don't take it too seriously. The whole sparring at 2 yr old was patently ridiculous.

Btw. am I the only one who thinks his IQ is like 0.00000000001? He has dreams about that world for 5 years (15 years of life there) of which large part he spents using magic. Then he reincarnates into another world, and even finds out there is magic (magic skills get mentioned), has lots of free time in which he has nothing to do (as a baby he has little he can do anyway) and yet he doesen't even try whether he can't use the magic the same way he used it in the dreams? Has the doctor in the beginning slapped the wrong end and caused him some brain damage? Not even speaking about him clearly not knowing anything about that world after spending 15 years there...

There is a romance rather than a harem spinning it's wheels going nowhere, so it's fine on that front though it's not particularly important to the story. He's not really hetare either, being more a fool rather than timid.
Have there been any good novels with skills and rpg shit etc. lately where the mc has an unusual ability or is a monster/dragon/slime/whatever? I mean skills like for example that one novel I read in which the MC had a "maze eater" ability which was the whole draw of the novel. It was a disappointment but the idea sounded interesting to me.

Humanity is really kind of boned in this series. Could be exterminated at any time and that one asshole is off sowing internal division and human experimentation so he can get a one-up on an old man. Pathetic.
Really wonder what path the protagonist will take. Obviously, he's on a different path than the original Leonhart, but will he end up doing the hero job himself or will he do something else while Ares does the game's plot?

More along the lines of anti-fantasy world, since 99.9% of Isekai stories (as far as I can tell) are mostly swords and magic RPG settings.
I already mentioned this, but my idea of an anti-isekai story is the fantasy world getting utterly obliterated by a warlord from a sci-fi world, and the mc, forgoing swords and magic, for guns, and robots.
Basically anti "standard" isekai.

Things move pretty fast, but up to chapter 60/180 only about 4-6 months have passed. He's already S rank... so pretty TUEEE... there are a lot of SSS rank monsters that could easily kill them and they've mostly just been let off so far.
The MC is the evil neutral type, kind of similar to Shuya from yari tsukai, (having been from an assassin family before he went to isekai), he was already used to killing people. Though he doesn't go out of his way to make anyone in specific into enemies, he kills if it is convenient to him or of benefit. His age is 11 but mentality is basically no different from XX age MC nothing in his actions really matches his age, so basically just a gimmick.
It's pretty typical to the way those ones usually go, but written well enough that it reads through smoothly and the MC never hetares out. So not bad if you don't mind "the usual stuff".
The "hero" gets his ass handed to him by everyone in the side stories, which is pretty funny. He's not one of the more annoying "hero" types, though it's funny how he has no combat experience so basically everyone in that world can effortlessly kick his ass.
Also confirmed harem.

Has anyone tried something like this:
The main characters are five snotty high schools, who often tease and insult the mc-ish otaku. But they're eventually struck by a certain four wheeled vehicle, and are sent to isekai, reincarnating into different races and social positions.
Of course they get involve with a handsome summoned hero, but since he's your typical isekai hero, the demon lord simply squishes him like a mosquito.
Fortunately someone arrives, and slays the demon lord before their untimely demise. Their savior: the otaku they used to tease, who pretty much forces them to be his harem, much to their own horror.
Basically the story would be told from the perspective of the five girls.
