how much is that postcard book again?
It's 1000 yen plus a 600 yen shipping cost in Japan.
Excellent pictures there. Thankfully, my posters of the group standing against the wall and the reversible one of Yuki and Yuki and Kyon on the other side has arrived, on Wednesday.
Also included was the postcard book and the Disappearance guidebook. Pretty good deal, in my opinion. Now all I need to complete my set is the 2006 DVDs. :)

Well, at least we get another example of a height comparison chart... :p
Basketball, Koizumi? :heh:
(after viewing the images, thanks)
No. Koizumi just looks particularly tall because he's right next to Mikuru whose a five footer.

Does anyone know of any shops that may have them in stock?

...shit man.
my friend drinks PEACH Pokka tea...lol.
Where's my Haruhi brand flamethrower?
Well, I'm currently in discussion with my middleman in Japan about which set of the 2006 Haruhi DVDs to get. At the moment, there are a choice of 3:
1. I can opt for used DVDs (In good condition, though I've sent them an email querying what exactly good condition means. I like to know what I'm getting)
2. Brand new DVDs. I'd thought they would be much more expensive, but the difference is relatively small. According to me anyway. :P
3. Here's the kicker - I can purchase the used DVDs for 500 yen more than the new DVDs, BUT I get extra postcards, a telephone card and a binder.
25,000 yen for the used, 32,000 yen for the new, and 32,500 yen for the used DVDs with the extras.
Your opinion?
EDIT: I suppose I could get the new DVDs with extras, but then that'd be 39,500 yen, which is... ouch.
The latest promotion with Haruhi: Pokka Lemon juice!
copypasted from myanimelist.com:
According to Newtype magazine June issue, a beverage company Pocca announced a new lemon juice "Suzumiya Haruhi no Kaju (The Juice of Haruhi Suzumiya)". It's a special collaboration project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Newtype magazine. The lemon juice uses a newly engineered summer mandarin orange "Haruhi" (http://www.fruit.affrc.go.jp/announcements/kisya/H21/02_22-1/haruhi.html) produced by National Institute of Fruit Tree Science. I couldn't confirm the info. The resolution of the scan is not enough to read the article. The new orange spices named Haruhi does exist. (http://www.fruit.affrc.go.jp/announcements/kisya/H21/02_22-1/haruhi.html)
The Pocca staff in charge of the project said they'll release more collaboration drinks with Haruhi if this juice gets popular. Newtype editor proposed "The Coffee of Kyon & Koizumi".

I chose the third option. The binder and telephone card have some artwork from Ito-sensei that looks lovely. I'd say that it's a personal decision if you like the artwork on the postcards and binder whether to get that or not. If you can, see if there's a bunch of special sticker sets with the used ones. There's no guarantee that there's some in the new sets.
What about a fourth option? There's an auction I've seen for 78,000 yen that has all 16 DVDs, plus the Gekisou event DVD and both corresponding boxes to hold all 17 sets.

Well, I've already got the first and last DVDs of the 2009 set, so that's not an option. The Gekisou's the one with the live concert by Aya et al? Yeah, not too interested in that, except for maybe the box.
I'll ask whether they have the stickers. And I need to check whether it's the L.E or the regular version. I suspect it's the L.E though.

Update on the Juice of Haruhi Suzumiya!
The cans are scheduled to be released on 7/7. Chara-ani (http://www.chara-ani.com/pickup.aspx?p=haruhikaju) are selling cases of 30 cans with special telephone cards for 5800 yen each. There are two versions of the cards: one with just Haruhi and one with Haurhi, Mikuru, and Yuki. No new images compared to what we've seen before.
I've got Haruhi and Mikuru figurines, but I've been looking everywhere for Yuki, Koizumi and Kyon. The make I'm referring to is the series by Max Factory.
Does anyone know of any shops that may have them in stock?
I bought my Kyon figurine at a local store, so maybe you should try look there?
You're referring to that Figma series right? Right now I only have Tsuruya-san, Kyon, and Haruhi and Mikuru in their Cheerleader uniforms.

Yeah, I am. I've got Haruhi and Mikuru in their school uniform (non-summer version)
Sadly, Norwich doesn't have much market for anime figurines. Heck, I don't think there's a shop that sells anime figurines. :(
EDIT: Just had a quick google search, there's only one anime shop, but they consider Twilight to be anime, to the extent that they're promoting figurines of Bella and Edward as anime. :twitch:
On a more positive note - I've bought the first 8 DVDs. After working out how much each DVD would cost me (About 30 pounds or so each) with the extras, I felt that was a good price.
Now to wait. Actually, I've seen this PVC of Mikuru in a waitress uniform. I may just buy that one.

According to 7net (http://www.7netshopping.jp/books/detail/-/accd/1102918676/subno/), Kadokawa is releasing a new artbook from the Haruhi anime series. It's listed as being from spring until summer and mentions swimsuits and bunny girl costumes in it. 150 pages and 1890 yen. No other retailer has mentioned it yet.
Edit: Update 5/19
Cd Japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=NEOBK-766853") is now listing the book as well.

Interesting. I may purchase it. Although it seems cheap, compared to another art book which I've seen around, for about £30 - approximately 4000 yen. Wonder what the difference is.
EDIT: Forgot to mention - I ordered my 2006 DVDs about a week ago - my middleman should be getting them right about now, actually. It's my birthday in a week or so, so I can excuse that as a present to myself. :P

Kadokawa (http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/comic/bk_detail.php?pcd=201005000018) Publishing posted their page for the new artbook. They confirm a 7/29 release date and 150 pages with A4 page size. It'll be spring and summer pictures with the SOS Brigade, and will likely be of the anime styling of the characters rather than the Ito-sensei versions.
Now to wait. Actually, I've seen this PVC of Mikuru in a waitress uniform. I may just buy that one.
Not bragging, but I think I saw one some time ago...I'll have to see if they still have it...

Here (http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/comic/bk_detail.php?pcd=200811000378) is the official page from Kadokawa. Amazon Japan and Kinokuniya both have it in stock, but it is around 3000 yen (it was $50 when I saw it in S.F. this weekend). Awesome posters, I'm glad you were able to get them. Will you be getting the rest of the 2009 R2 DVDs or holding off on another release?
It's interesting that you got half USA R1 English releases and half R2 UK English releases in your box. Any particular reason?

Ah, you have sharp eyes! Well, I was planning to get the rest, but it depends on the prices. If I can find an auction with all DVDs for a reasonably cheap price, then I'll get them all at once. If not, I'll just slowly get each, one by one.
I was looking at the auctions with the Yuki sleeves, that looked nice.
Depending on the extras included, I may get the Region 2 releases as well.
The R2 DVDs were available in my area, so I got them. After a few weeks of waiting, I decided to import the R1 DVDs because there were no sources of the first or second LE DVDs in the UK. Funnily enough, it cost me the price of 1 R2 LE to get 2 R1 LEs, don't know why.
The contents were the same, plus I was planning to watch the Japanese DVDs, so that's the reason.
EDIT. Huzzah! My Haruhi DVDs are here! Anyone want pictures? I would be very happy to provide.

I think it is B2 size. I couldn't find any frames that carried the exact frame size, I had a 20x30 but the poster was like a half inch too wide. I bought it at Walmart. If the poster is special to me, I will frame it! I wouldn't want to tape it and risk getting ripped.

Official notice of the Haruhi-chan and Nyoroon~Churuya-san BD Box has finally arrived on the official website (http://haruhi.tv/fanclub/goods_bdbox_haruchuru.html)!
So it's one disc in a special box drawn by Kyoto Animation. The disc itself is double-layered on one side. The animation is in 1080p with one part of the bonus features in 1080i. The bonus features are the 5 DVD CMs, a special BD CM, and textless OP/ED/special OP. English subtitles are confirmed for voices, but not for any signs or other text.
Not surprisingly for Haruhi releases there is a random element: you will get one of three postcards. It will either be of the cover art, the box art, or of the Taniguchi demon art.
Fortunately for those who bought the DVDs, neither the OST CD or the Special DVD features will be included in this set. No cover art was put onto the site.
To anyone who owns a cheerleader Haruhi figure:
How do you make her hold those Haruhidamned pompoms!?
Even if I try those fists with holes (???) I can't seem to figure out how to position them so she holds them properly.
I have just received an email from CDJapan informing me of some Haruhi merchandise. They does not appear to be high quality merchandise judging by the pictures, but it is still merchandise nevertheless.
First up - we have a fan with Yuki on it. (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/goods/goods_detail.html?KEY=NEOGDS-25471)
It is retailing for 1500 yen (inc tax) and will be released on 2010/08/28.
Second is a knapsack - again with Yuki on it. (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/goods/goods_detail.html?KEY=NEOGDS-25470) It retails for 1800 yen, and will also be released on 2010/08/28.
Third and last piece of merchandise is a tapestry, with Yuki on it. (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/goods/goods_detail.html?KEY=NEOGDS-25469) It is B2 sized, so the same size of a poster, retails at 3800 yen and has the same release date - 2010/08/28.
They all appear to be pre-order only, so if you want them, I would get them as soon as possible before the preorder deadline hits - 2010/06/25
As for me, I'll be deciding when pictures of the actual products arrive, not placeholders. The B2 tapestry intrigues me though.

Third and last piece of merchandise is a tapestry.
Those look to be some of the items that some theatres were selling at the movie. You may be able to find pictures on Yahoo auctions of the actual products. I suppose that they still had a lot of stock left of these ones.
To anyone who owns a cheerleader Haruhi figure:
How do you make her hold those Haruhidamned pompoms!?
Even if I try those fists with holes (???) I can't seem to figure out how to position them so she holds them properly.
You need to take her hands off. Then stick the pompoms on and they should be fine.
Yeah, her goddamn hands need to BECOME pompoms. :D
Sounds like something Haruhi would say.
"YOU MUST BECOME ONE WITH THE POMPOMS MIKURU! OOONE WITH THE POOOOOOMPOOOOOOMS..."
Yeah, her goddamn hands need to BECOME pompoms. :D
No shit? No wonder I couldn't get her to hold them. -_-" This is what happens when you only buy figures and nendoroids... ^^
"YOU MUST BECOME ONE WITH THE POMPOMS MIKURU! OOONE WITH THE POOOOOOMPOOOOOOMS..."
Lol, I can imagine her saying that.
No shit? No wonder I couldn't get her to hold them. -_-" This is what happens when you only buy figures and nendoroids... ^^
So this is your first Figma?
Lol, I can imagine her saying that.
But then this is Haruhi we're talking about, remember?
Of course, having omnipotent powers...
Anyone have a spare cookie?

Date, my man!! We need a date!!!
So this is your first Figma?
My first and only figma. I doubt I'd have the budget to buy another one... That figma cost twice as much as a big figure, (forgot the size, threw away the box) and six nendoroids.
Besides, I'm buying K-On figures now. ^^ (forgive my disloyalty, O-Haruhi-sama.

Seconded!
My first and only figma. I doubt I'd have the budget to buy another one...No kidding. I pre-ordered my first figma a few months ago and I got it only recently. Once it was in stock Archonia decided to add another 25 to the price tag:twitch: (fortunately I didn't have to pay those).

O.O
25 is a lot... Why are figmas worth that much?
Then again, I can't really relate, because I buy from stores/conventions in my country. My parents don't allow online shopping. =.=

Which one was that? Bloody expensive. Although I'm thankful to them for having Yuki in stock.

Because they're popular? Apparently the figma of Koizumi is expensive because stocks are so low right now (I can't see why Koizumi in particular, but that's just me) and people are paying well over the odds not me because I ordered it for a reasonable price, same for Kyon
One thing that slightly confuses me is how PVC statues are equal in price to figmas. Well, that was the case for me with Alter Haruhi - it was the same price as the Kyon Figma. Naturally to say, I got them both. They may have been from an auction though...
And when I finish my Haruhi collection (I need a Witch Yuki figma, or is there an Alter version?) I'll start on K-ON! Like I've said, a lot of people seem to enjoy both Haruhi and K-ON! They're quite similar in their themes, and the fact that they're both done by the same company doesn't hurt their popularity at all either.

Mmm, that would be why there so much. Usually alot cheaper if you get them from, say Hobby search. Even after shipping their usually still cheaper then full PVC ones.

And its pretty funny you happened to mention those two. As they wre my first Figure and Figma. :3
Which one was that? Bloody expensive.Marisa Kirisame. (http://www.archonia.com/mangashop/en/article/67420/) When I pre-ordered it it was 49,95 plus delivery; once it was released... well, you can see for yourself.
Speaking of Archonia, I'm confused by their Boredem hardcover page (http://www.archonia.com/mangashop/en/article/77679/).

Sounds like price gouging to me. I haven't heard of that, so I don't know whether it's because the anime (If there is one that is) is popular.
As for that webpage, what part is confusing you?

As for that webpage, what part is confusing you?I take it you never heard of Touhou (http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Touhou_Wiki).
Anyway, the bit that's confusing me is they set the release date as the end of July while every other source lists it as the start of July, coinciding with the paperback's release.
Also, I only just now noticed this but not only that figma, but nigh on everything else has become more expensive as well.

No, actually. I'm looking at Amazon (USA version) for the hardcover version right now and while it states that the release date is the first of July, there's an option to get it by the 22nd of June if you opt for the One Day shipping option.
I mean... whut? Seems there may have been a teeny mistake by Amazon there. :p
Don't believe me? Here you go. (http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1277134246/ref=sr_nr_seeall_1?ie=UTF8&keywords=Boredom%20of%20Haruhi&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3ABoredom%20of%20Haruhi%2Ci%3Astrip books)
As for figma/figures, this is purely speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a set of figmas made off the Haruhi movie. Most likely would be Kyon and Yuki, but I suspect (Again, speculation) that there would be a figma of Haruhi and Itsuki in their school uniform. Maybe even Haruhi in sports attire.
But then, there hasn't been anything announced, so don't get your hopes up.

oh wow japanese dvds....
Indeedy. I ordered them from a proxy service in Japan, along with some Japan exclusive posters. That set cost 32,500 yen. As I assume you're in the USA, that works out to $350ish, and shipping cost me 3000 yen which is around $33
Personally I felt it was worth it, since I got a binder and 8 postcards. No English subtitles, but that hardly detracts from the appeal.
Haruhi's Disappearance BD has dissappeared from Amazon. :T_T:
Hm, that doesn't exactly surprise me. I think someone here mentioned that Amazon has a history of putting up items with a made up date. It seems that this is yet another example right here.
I take it that's the paperback version and that they somehow released it ahead of schedule.
Dunno, I did a pre-order on Wednesday and then the notice that the book was released only a day or two later. It is the paperback version, but I'm also seeing people enter the hardcover into the LibraryThing catalogues, which generally indicates they have it in hand. (Probably from Amazon - I do not use Amazon unless it's the only place with a book, which is quite rare. Besides, I got free shipping from bookdepository.co.uk even though Boredom was the only book I ordered :D)
It's not uncommon for books to hit the shelves before their official release date - Sigh was also out before it was listed as being available.

Yeah, I listed the "official" release date for the novels, even though they'll be available before then since they did have release dates. I'll probably re-do the image with new dates and items. I got my copies of the novel today and shall be reading tonight.

The only shop that I could find it being in stock was Yesasia.com, for a whopping $109. (Free international shipping, but still.)
My proxy was able to quote me a figure of 5050 yen though, or $55. Even when factoring in shipping (This includes other figmas, and was Airmail) I paid just over half of what it would have cost me to get it from Yesasia.

Little updates for today. Firstly, today the August issue of "The Sneaker" went on sale as well as two commemorative editions to celebrate the 100th issue entitled S Red and S Blue. On the cover of S Blue is another Ito-sensei drawing of Haruhi:

Tora is also offering a special 4 page booklet with various series illustrations in it for the August Sneaker.

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/ultimatemegax/Haruhi%20Images/wwwdotuporg1011302.jpg
On October 22nd for 39,900 yen, Haruhi will be released on Blu-Ray in a "Complete Box"! This set will include all 28 episodes and BOTH concerts. A great number of bonus footage is planned.
2nd Edit: It's now up on Chara-ani (http://www.chara-ani.com/details.aspx?prdid=B10700346).
3rd Edit: Sofmap (http://www.sofmap.com/product_detail/exec/_/sku=11455852/-/gid=DD13020000) and HMV (http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/3869109) have it available as well. Item is KAXA2000 according to HMV's listing.
4th: Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B003UTS85C/) just put their listing at 29,526 yen.
Edit: Also in BD news, Amazon updated their image of the Haruhi-chan BD-Box to the following:

@ultimatemegax:
Thank you for always finding the news^^.
I'm really looking forward to this box and I hope that they add subtitles, then it would be perfect^^.
And Kyon is the only one disturbed by the gaint statue of Haruhi-chan.
I wonder how the box looks though. That is a very steep price, but I can see how it would be worth it for people who don't have the DVDs yet. I don't like the fact that the episodes have been arranged chronologically. I personally preferred the season in the way it was shown on TV, but that's probably just me. Are there any extras in the form of postcards or anything like that?
Well, at least I've finished off my Haruhi figma/figure collection.

No art has been released for the TV series box. The price is less than most expected with Kanon and Clannad being 62,500 yen each with only 24 episodes. I myself was guessing closer to 55,000 yen for the set with only the episodes.
I know most people (especially in NA) don't like the chronological order, but that's the way it was aired in the 2009 showing (which is what this set is based from) and it allows the new episodes to be inserted normally compared to a jumbled mess.
No additional information on the set itself has been released. The only additional good that's been released is a special telephone card if you purchase it from the Japanese side of HMV.

The K-On! "Don't Say Lazy" style figures that Kyoto Animation are producing are 8000 yen apiece. It would be safe to assume this figure would be the same price. You could contact a middleperson in Japan and ask them to get the figure for you from their store as well.
is it just me or is this actually from last year :heh:
The figure is from the movie which uses the 2009 copyright, thus that's why the image has 2009 on it. This site was created in the evening of 7/7/10 in Japan, so it's very recent.
^what site are you talking about specifically that was created a few days ago
I am referring to the Kyoto Animation (http://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/shop/figure/haruhi/) site that was made to detail the progress of the Yuki figure. It was publicly revealed on the evening of the 7th, less than 36 hours ago.

Hopefully this Yuki statue is the first of a Shoushitsu series. I'd love to see Alt!Haruhi and Asakura get their own ones as well.
Also, wow that BluRay is expensive. Hopefully copies will be out on YJA later for a lesser price.

Kyoto Animation is going through the K-On! girls as well, so the figures may be interspersed between the two series.
The total price for the DVDs with the included material is 109,200 yen for the limited editions and 93,200 yen for the regular editions (retail prices). You at least get 60% off the regular editions by getting the Blu-Ray version.
Also added without any big notice were the "Taniguchi Goes!" segments to the set. All 8 segments are included.
Also something interesting from 2ch. In one of the Lucky Racer videos on the Kadokawa Youtube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/KADOKAWAanime), they announced a quiz on the website. If you got the questions right, you were entered into a raffle to get a prize. A couple of posters won the raffle and got some very wonderful gifts:

Yes, actual displays that were used in theatres all around Japan during the first run of the movie. Nice, but big! The art poster is 144 x 100 cm according to the 2ch poster.

That is a list of the best selling items in all of DVD/Blu-Ray since the 7th in Japan. The Box set was listed on Amazon Japan at 07:00 and ranked 238th. It went to 35 at 08:00, 4 at 09:00 and arrived at number 1 at 10:00 and stayed there since. They refresh the rankings every hour and it's remained there. This (http://www.rankbank.net/amaran/history/?cat=dvd&asin=B003UTS85C) site has been cataloging the rankings of items on Amazon Japan and is where I got that information.
I hope the extras will also have english subs, but I kinda doubt it...
The original DVDs did not have subtitles on the extras. I don't believe these will have them either.
The original DVDs did not have subtitles on the extras. I don't believe these will have them either.
They could use the subtitles of the US release but this is only wishful thinking :heh:. Like Pony Canyon did for the Clannad and Kanon BD episodes.
The Blu-ray set is a bargain in terms of Japanese edition boxed sets (yes, it's expensive when compared to licensed works). Preordered one already at Amazon. Wonder how they manage to offer it at 25% off compared to other vendors.
The Yuki statue looks awesome. I haven't dealt with the Kyoani store before. Do they ship abroad or are we talking proxy buyers or ebay if I want to get one? Yuki hasn't had much luck with figures. The only good looking model so far imo has been the Maxfactory 1/8.

Amazon Japan likely orders from the distributor in Japan and can sell at a lower price than other stores. For your other question, the KyoAni store only ships to Japan, so you'll have to use a middleman service to purchase the figure.
For new news, I've had to hold off on announcing this for a couple of weeks to get solid proof, but it's finally up. As you may know, at the end of this month a new "Haruhi Suzumiya Illustrations" art book will be released. That book will cover Spring and Summer. On September 28th, the art book covering the fall and winter seasons will be released. HMV (http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/3869955) has put up their page and is accepting pre-orders. This will have illustrations from the movie as well. It'll be 150 pages and is 1890 yen.

Sorry again for double-posting, but I have some news regarding the Blu-Ray box set. On the Amazon ranking site (http://www.rankbank.net/amaran/history/?cat=dvd&asin=B003UTS85C) I mentioned earlier, the set has been ranked number 1 every hour since 10:00 on 7/7 with one exception of 3 hours earlier today when it was number 2. It's still back at number 1. We're quickly approaching 10 days since it was available and it's still topping the charts. The numbers for this are going to be very interesting. I haven't seen a Japanese version anime Blu-Ray box set top over 10,000 sold so this may be the first one. (If there has been one, let me know and I shall be corrected)
In additional news, Kyoto Animation finally put up their shop page (http://kyotoanimation.shop-pro.jp/?pid=22070217) for the set. Normally the discount at Amazon is enough that KyoAni's special favor isn't worth it, but this time they are offering a mini cel that will be revealed later. Their cels are 15,000 yen apiece, which happens to more than cover the normal Amazon discount.
And I'd like to offer my apologies for spreading incorrect information. The "Taniguchi goes" segments that are on the BD set are not the ones included on the 2009 Limited edition DVDs (or the DVD compilation released in September). The listings state "Taniguchi goes! A new Journey of Mysterious Discoveries" which would indicate new segments.

There is probably a good reason why this BD set is cheaper than expected. From what I understand, season 1 was not animated in native HD resolutions. It was animated in standard resolution. Consequently, at least half the episodes in this BD box will actually be an upconvert. Season 2 was animated in native HD. The price is probably reflecting this, rather than any sense of charity from the producers/distributors (Come on, we're talking Japan here).
Depending on how they author the first season, it may not look any better than the DVD being upscaled by Blu-ray player with a really good upscaler. Personally I have a blu-ray player with an outstanding upscale chip and the season 1 DVDs look pretty good. It doesn't look HD of course, but still look good. I'm guessing the DVDs were also authored pretty well which helps in the upconvert.

Just a quick update on sales for the BD Box set. Amazon Japan has a wonderful feature that will let you sort the overall sales by week, month, or even year (http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/2010/dvd/ref=pd_ts_d_mte).
This lets us see that the BD Box has reached Amazon's 25th overall spot for the year in just over 3 weeks of sales. Most of that time it was the top selling DVD/Blu-Ray in the store (dropped to 2nd on the 19th, then 3rd on the 21st, and then 5th on the 22nd to the present). The lower price seems to be aiding a lot of sales from Amazon. Once again it'll be very interesting to see the final sale numbers for this set in three months.
Edit: LISTING UPDATED! On both the official Fansite Listing (http://haruhi.tv/fanclub/goods_bdbox_haruhi.html) and the Kadokawa listing (http://www.kadokawa-pictures.co.jp/official/haruhi_2/video.shtml) (scroll all the way down), they list the following under audio:
リニアPCM STEREO(日本語・英語)
Linear PCM STEREO (Japanese・English)
Could this possibly include the dub?
Secondly, the official listing has added the 8 Making of clips from the 2006 DVDs and the Special Hare Hare Yukai TV size ending clip to the bonus disc.
Thirdly, the Kadokawa listing has a release date of 11/26/2010 now. No online retailer nor the fansite has changed the sale date yet.

A little bit offtopic but ..which series also has its light novels translated? Like Haruhi!?I don't know, really. Aside from Haruhi, there aren't a lot of light novels that sell well in the west. For instance, Seven Seas halted production of the Strawberry Panic novels after volume 2 because it didn't make all that much profit and the recession forced them to make cutbacks. Therefor it's extremely rare to find them these days (I've seen volume 2 on Amazon asking for a few hundred USD just yesterday:twitch:).

I hear that the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is coming out sometime of November of this year (or so I've heard). But what kind of frustrates me, is that we are just got novel 3 (The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya) last July, and yet Japan actually released novel 9 (The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya) in April 2007! And now number 10 (The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya) is on the way, while we're barely getting to the fourth novel!
Man, we're kinda behind. I understand that it takes a while, but it'll be quite a few years at this rate before we'll be able to see new light novels. I realize it takes patience to wait so as being able to truly appreciate the joys of the works of Nagaru Tanigawa, but...

Notice from the SOS Brigade
We had planned to release "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Blu-Ray Complete Box" on October 22nd, but the process of editing, tweeking the images, etc were more of a hassle than we had expected. I had thought the process of converting to Blu-Ray would be troublesome, but even the instructions were a hassle.
I could only say that Kyon's expectation was optomistic.
So we conclude that it'll be approximately one month longer than expected for the release. Somehow while working day and night, a miracle may come from Kyon. However, since we all feel this isn't an ordinary postponement, we'll prepare some additional special benefits. I'll report when these are decided.
-SOS Brigade Leader: Haruhi Suzumiya
What?!!! After all the work I do usually at school and around the world, you're pushing the work of everyone on me when I can't even take a breath?!
Regardless of if I follow your plans like usual or not, it'll be done in just a little while. It's inexcuseable. Wait, what's this about extra benefits? Why didn't I hear about this?! OI!
-SOS Brigade oldest member: Kyon
Those were posted on the official fansite (http://haruhi.tv/info_bdbox.html) and Kyoto Animation's (http://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/haruhi/goods/goods_info.html#goods_info) Haruhi website today. A little bit of humor to go along with the delay.
In other news, Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4048545205/) has finally posted the cover art for the Spring Summer Illustrations artbook:
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/ultimatemegax/Haruhi%20Images/404854520501_SX296_SCLZZZZZZZ_V188437294_.jpg
You should be able to pick out the Endless Eight flyer art (Haruhi center), Tomare! cover art (top right) Juice art (middle right) Tanzaku postcard art (Haruhi bottom right), Kyon art from an issue of Newtype (bottom), Yuki art from Megumi iirc (bottom left), and the Yuki art from Newtype last year (middle left). I don't remember the Kyon and Koizumi art in the bottom left, Mikuru at center right, or the Mikuru and Tsuruya art at the top left.
Edit: Also the Chara-ani (http://www.chara-ani.com/details.aspx?prdid=D10700025) store announced their special favor for the box set. It will be a special cloth poster with art drawn by Ito-Sensei. Sample below:

Yeah, was going to point out that you can't buy directly from YenPress.com - that's just their catalogue page - but I just type "Yen Press" into the Book Depository search and all their titles show up. (I'm a huge fan of the Book Depository over Amazon, plus they take Paypal :P)
I don't think they offer hardcover versions of all the books, only the ones that are going to sell really well. Book Girl (the first one at least), seems to be only available in paperback, for example. Haruhi might be the only hardcover that they do (at least, that I'm aware of).
Also, look up Viz's light novels. They've done Shana, dunno about others. (Starting to get a bit offtopic from Haruhi merchandise, though...)

The rumor going around 2ch and other various places is that the amount of pre-orders so far has vastly exceeded the amount they had planned on making (It's already 23rd on Amazon Japan's yearly overall DVD/BD rankings in less than 2 weeks), so they had to delay it to ensure everyone got a copy at release date. It's something that won't likely be said in public though, so there's no way to confirm that's the reason why.
Granted the authoring explanation does have some validity. They've changed the specifications of the set a few times (adding the new Taniguchi segments, the "making of" clips, the special ED, and of course the English audio) and they could be examining what they could and couldn't put on the set. They still have to add in the textless OP/ED sets (which seem mandatory for any anime set) so it's still likely to change.
I viewed the "apology" as just a funny reference for the fans from Sigh V and the overall trend of Haruhi making Kyon do everything for the series rather than an actual reason. The official line (as usual) is that various circumstances have caused the delay. Here is my translation of the official statement on the fansite listing (http://haruhi.tv/fanclub/goods_bdbox_haruhi.html) and Kyoto Animation's (http://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/haruhi/goods/goods_info.html#goods_info) website that goes as follows:
[Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Bluray Complete Box] (KAXA-2000) release date change notification and apology
To everyone,
Nowadays we are thrilled to see the amount of energy from you grow more and more. We give thanks for your exceptional support in the past. We originally listed the release date as 10/22/2010, but due to various circumstances we have had to change it. We are immensely sorry that this inconveniences our customers. We ask that you continue to support our company's works in the future. Sincerely,

Edit: The new artbook is absolutely fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who can find it. It's only 1980 yen and is worth it. The quality of the images is amazing and a good trip down memory lane. Here's a couple of images that I've taken:

Right now it's primarily available from Japanese online retail sites, but the Kinokuniya stores in New York, Portland, Los Angeles, and Costa Mesa have it in stock.

For those wondering about the Blu-Ray Complete Box, I have a couple updates. First, the Amazon Japan yearly rankings (http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/2010/dvd/ref=pd_ts_d_mte) for all of DVD have the set at number 22 on the year. There's been a couple musical releases by AKB48 and JUNSU/JEJUNG/YUCHUN that have raced to beat the set. It's still topping other popular anime series like Bakemonogatari's final volume and Angel Beats. I personally assume the set will end up selling around 25,000-30,000 on the first week, which is absolutely fantastic.
Secondly, the store special favors have pretty much been finalized. I'll go in alphabetical order:
Amazon: None, but best international price.

I just don't like 2009 designs. I think is the same woman who draws but 2006 designs are my favorites by far.
Anyway the movie designs were great although we will never know how the 2006 designs would fit in such a 'dark' movie.

Why does that world feel more peaceful then the old world that we are very much accustomed to...

Very interesting... I'm seeing a whole bunch of what-ifs...
I dunno... some of these look like what could have been, if Kyon chose to stay in the alternate world. It's... more peaceful, and serene... of course, I'm not saying that the actual original world isn't all that and more exciting and such, but you have to admit that we are all curious as to what if Kyon had stayed with Alt. Yuki.
@Hooves There's no need to be ashamed of it. I think most of us agree long-haired Haruhi, and ponytail Haruhi is more attractive than the regular Haruhi.
Nice calender though. I might consider getting it to kick off 2011...
And they just keep reminding me of how good Yuki's legs look.

The left is the store promotional video that was made for DVD and the right is the original animation in HD. The left was claimed to be in 1080i and the right is 1080p. It's really quite striking when viewing it in HD. Makes me very curious how the 2006 episodes will look.
I don't know why I didn't notice by that new calender has Kyon smiling. Kyon? Smile?

There have been no plans for a DVD box from Kadokawa that we know of. The only compilation for the normal series is the BD Box.
Speaking of that, Kyoto Animation released the finished product image for their special mini-cel they include if you purchase the BD Box from their site (at the normal price however).

I'm not that impressed with how it appears. I usually like their cels, but it's safe to say I pass on this one.
Edit: Also, Kadokawa finally put up the cover for the Fall/Winter Illustrations artbook. After the first one was so amazing, I have really high expectations for this one.

This is the first time I've gotten a look at that latest BUBBA statue in its entirety, and while it's still good I have to admit that the fact you can see her ribs rather clearly is a little off-putting.

This is cool, I'm a coffee lover :D. What would've been funny though would be if Yuki was holding the same coffee with the picture of her in her hand. That would be . . . :eyespin:

For those interested in purchasing the SOS Galactic Patrol Haruhi (pictured in post #1706), e2046 has made plans to introduce it as a part of its Gathering line of figures, which are prepainted and preassembled.

It's culture (Japanese girls love to be thin; I guess, despite not needing to be thin anymore...).
Haruhi 2 Extra pack for Weiss Schwarz is coming XD... probably a lot of Disappearance cards [with Haruhi in her black suit].

The new PS3 and PSP Haruhi Suzumiya game, Suzumiya Haruhi no Tsuisou, has a final release date of March 24. Dengeki reports that the PSP version will run ₯6,279 and the PS3 version ₯7,329.
Both versions will have a limited edition box, priced ₯11,529 on PS3 and ₯10,479 on PSP. This box includes a booklet, a binder, three clear posters, a 3D poster with 3D glasses, and a special video collection. The PSP version will have the video collection on a separate UMD video disc. The PS3 version will have the collection on the game disc.
3D poster and glasses ? anybody know that?

I've got the hard-to-find and out-of-print Gekisou series figures of Yuki, Haruhi, and Mikuru up for auction on Ebay. Boxes have never been opened (just never got around to displaying them). I'd love to keep them but so it goes since I haven't won the lottery.

I'm trying to figure out what to ask for xmas but my sister is fairly confused and for that matter so I am regarding the naming scheme.
There is apparantly a Complete Collection (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/melancholy-of-haruhi-suzumiya-complete-collection-widescreen-2006-dvd/m2180123.aspx?path=0bd5cefd9b99b27c1f8149c32383340 0en02) Which I assume is the first season in english and Japanese and the fairly straight forward Second Season (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/melancholy-of-haruhi-suzumiya-season-2-2010-dvd/m2181262.aspx?path=76df0d3c132a2551e62053e2034c126 3en02) Which I assume is all the new episodes and Endless Eight.
But then on the site there's "Volumns" 1-4 Here (http://www.futureshop.ca/Search/SearchResults.aspx?path=ca77b9b4beca91fe414314b86b b581f8en20&pcname=MCCPCatalog&q=haruhi&sp=FS_en-CA_Site-WideSP&Category=Entire%20Site) Are they simply the first season but in 4 separate boxes or is there extra features in the 'Volumn' version as opposed to the complete collection?
Also, anyone know if the Russian dub of Haruhi also includes English subtitles? I could think of no better learning tool.

Complete Collection (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/melancholy-of-haruhi-suzumiya-complete-collection-widescreen-2006-dvd/m2180123.aspx?path=0bd5cefd9b99b27c1f8149c32383340 0en02)
Second Season (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/melancholy-of-haruhi-suzumiya-season-2-2010-dvd/m2181262.aspx?path=76df0d3c132a2551e62053e2034c126 3en02)
Those are what you want. The individual volumes were just the original release of the original season (which you can now get in that complete collection). You could probably find them cheaper elsewhere (depending on what sites you can order from).

The cases have 3,2,and 3 discs respectively (first two are main series, last case is bonus discs). Only episode/disc order confirmation we can gather is that Melancholy I-VI is on the first disc.
Here's a couple shitajiki of Haruhi (http://twitpic.com/39wcuz) and Mikuru (http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6043/wwwdotuporg1268041.jpg) to compare to the Yuki in the second picture.

It's a parody of a Japanese magazine, I believe called "The Television" where everyone on the cover is holding a lemon, for no particular reason.
You can see a cover image here. (http://photoplastik.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/haruka-ayase-x-kazuya-kamenashi-the-television-tatta-hitotsu-no-koi-drama-promo/)

According to Yahoo News/MantanWeb (http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20101201-00000007-mantan-ent), the Oricon weekly rankings show the Haruhi Box sold 31,000 on Blu-Ray. Not as much as was claimed to have shipped, but it still became the best selling anime BD-Box.

Actually, no ... the listings expired I just need to put them up again. Will update listings for the Gekisou figures soon.

Someone said they're the same as the Bandai subs.
Did they write:
time traveler as future men or person from the future?
Alien as x
moe as turn ons
integrated data entity to something else
organization or agency
etc etc?

I got Nagato with mine... kinda wanted Mikuru-chan.
Now, was it really necessary to delete my post there? I was asking about the actual Blu-Ray, not the rip. But never mind - I got my answer elsewhere. Still waiting for FedEx to deliver my Blu-Ray box, though... sigh.

Has anyone found a site selling the 2011 calendar (the Disappearance-themed one) for a decent price? J-List and YesAsia don't have it, and the only one on eBay is selling for a ludicrous price. I can't work out how to use KyoAni's online store, and God knows how expensive that'd be anyway!

I said to myself that I wouldn't post pics of the 7 copies of the Disappearance movie until I received all of them but thought might as well post the 6 copies I've got so far. Still got my Toranoana order to be shipped to me which I don't I'll request for it until mid-January so it can be bundled with my Comiket 79 stuff. The third pic are some of the store exclusive bonuses that was bundled the LE BD/DVD.

It's from Kyoto Animation's Comiket Haruhi set. It's an illustration book that was bundled with a CD containing images/other various things for computers. Good luck finding one as the prices were going high on Yahoo Japan auctions.
