Who has the best/worse robe?

As the title says. This is from a design point of veiw. Who do you think has the best Robe? The wrose Robe? or things you would just change about someones Robe. Personaly, I think Akane's Robe would be better wothout the cat ears, and that Maria has the best Robe, my boyfriend thinks Shiho has the best one ^^

Well i'm not sure about favorits, I guess i have a soft spot for natsuki's and arika's(blue mode). I dislike arika's pink ones(both v1 and 1.5) I don't really like mai's that much, it looks kinda puffy but i saw a 1st concept ver of her robe and liked that one better. Plus i like the robe by that ayane girl from the prequel manga/novel.

Personally, I think Arika has both the best and worst robe in the series. Her basic pink rob is really ugly looking, while the blue ultimate/zwei robe is probably my favorite in the whole show.

Assuredly Mai's is my favorite! There's something about that scarf I really love, and I just like the overall design + the vibrant orange color. Sara's and Chie's robes are quite nifty, too. I enjoy designs with an interesting twist, like Chie's whole magician schtick.

If the Valkyrie robes count, I'd say those are my least favorite. Maybe Shiho's, too, although I like the voodoo inspiration behind hers. They're just kinda clunky looking, you know?

The color and the puffy sleeves make Arika's robe really silly to me. At least the one of Shiho is hilarious. For the best one I can't decide between Arika in blue and Shizuru. All of them have horrible shoes, though....

My least favorite would have to be any of the minor Otomes seen near the end (Rosalie, Anh Lu, etc.) Just not much design put into them to make them stand out compared to the main cast.

Worst: A lot of them are contenders for this position. I probably hate Nao's the most since she looked cool with her claws in HiME and I am depressed by the Otome treatment being done to her. But I don't know if it's really the worst one. No, I think Arika 2.0 wins that award.

Seriously, the Robes in Otome were horrible. The series could have been so ridiculously awesome, but instead we got inane outfits and people who fight by colliding into one another at high velocity, and ingenuity is called upon when they need to collide with objects at an even higher velocity (see Zwei OVA 1). And still frames/cutaways for most of the major battles.

Yeah, and the one wearing the Silver Crystal one doesn't have Natsuki's long hair clip. I don't think it's a bad idea showing the previous users of the current GEMs. It's gonna take time to get used to these new Otomes, but with a good storyline I don't think we will care about that.

And since I didn't post it before, I think the worst robe is the Valkyrie one. And I don't really like Rosalie's one, it's too big.

This is true, but they must face the fact that the characters, minus Mikoto and Miyu, aren't immortal. Back on subject though. I like Ahn's Robe even though it is very simple, but my current favorite would be Miss Maria as she is one of my top favorite characters.

That's more like "misaimed fandom".

It's basically what you get when a character is liked in the fandom despite the creators implying all along the way that this character is, well, rather disgusting.

Sort of what happened with Rei in Evangelion. Anno wanted to make her seem completely messed-up, and she became popular for exactly that reason - despite his intent.

Shizuru, from what I can tell, was originally intended to be a deconstruction of the "schoolgirl lesbian" anime stereotype, showing what someone like that could turn into in reality. Turned out that the fans liked her anyway and mostly ignored the darker side of her personality, so Sunrise went along and elevated ShizNat to official couple status in Otome.

But the flipside of fanservice is, there is a point beyond which this particular sucky, fan-driven relationship gets so much attention from the writers that stories that don't prominently feature it also begin to suck.

And I hope that Sunrise realizes that such a borderline does indeed exist, and won't cross it.

All the other Otome are older and more experienced than Arika, so their Robes wouldn't have lower forms, plus they probably aren't as powerful as the BSS. An Otome such as Miss Maria could probably use every GEM & Robe known.

I think it's commonly believed that the Ultimate Black Diamond is simply the corrupted version of the Pure White Diamond. It's mostly based off a single line in the anime, which could be metaphorical (or maybe something was lost in the translation even). I'm not really sure if it's true, myself, but that's where the belief comes from.

In EP26 15:53, "Mashiro Diamond" "got stained black and despair" i.e. referenced to the Harmonium and 'Ultimate Black Diamond' GEM. Also the Harmonium has the hints to Yuna’s supersize otome characteristics i.e. supersize otome shadow.

In EP07 13:26, the Founder of Otome has diamond called "Mashiro" diamond.

It’s logical to conclude that 'Pure White Diamond' and 'Ultimate Black Diamond' are the same GEMs.

I do agree with you, but a piece of technology can be corrupted through viruses or something of the sort. Maybe the "despair" was a virus or something like that? As I said though, I do see and agree with your point.

Emmm, MS Window’s registry or file corruption and defacing a web site.

There’s no need for miracles i.e. basic understanding of information systems, viruses, SSL/TPM/DRM/Certificates, wifi and printers would suffice.

Any virus (a class of computer program) can corrupt/change/alter a "smart system"’s intended function e.g. infected "Zombie"/Botnets Windows PCs as real world examples…

Any "smart systems" can be reprogrammed (for good or for evil). The GEM is a controller device for nano-machines. The GEMs has wifi entry points and Otome systems can still be interface with a laptop (with appropriate software) .

The (Founder) Otome system has administration access level akin to real world systems root/administrator accounts (cite OV4).

I think Akane would have looked better in Arika's manga Robe, especially with her hair in a ponytail. I disagree with Erstin and the Neptune Emerald though- I really think that her manga Robe (Rainbow Cloud Rhodonite GEM) was the best choice, although it was a little too revealing in the front (although in the manga it's hard to tell if there's fabric in front or not)- I think Akane's anime robe had similar issues.

It looks to be about the same. You have to keep in mind that when you put a manga robe on screen, you can't go too much into detail since the robe needs to be animated.

While we're on the topic of robes, I prefer the manga variant of the Blue Sky Sapphire over the anime variant. It just looks better, sleeker. Of course, with promo pics showing Rena's BSS with angelic wings, well that's something else. ;)

I dunno why, but i like Laura's robe. i like it's colors. Nina's new meister robe is my new favorite, cause i think it looked good on her.

Middle robes: (mid worse and best) Mai Tokiha, Juliet Nao Zhang, Shiho Huit

Nao's robe is in middle cause the robe looks skinny on her, and Nao's slim. As a result, naaah. But i like it's Julia-Inspired theme. Mai's robe cause of two problems. One. her socks. With those socks, she's still look like a student. Two. The scarf. It messed up her image. Shiho cause her robe would look better (as i imagined from my thoughts) if SPIRALS were put on her robe, instead of SKULLS. For those who like her robe, it may not be te best for me, but it's not the worse either. ;)

Worse robes: Arika Yumemiya, (the pink+blue one) Karla Bellini, Akane Soir, Maya Bryce, and Rosalie Claudel.

Rosalie's robe would be better if the robe's skirt is not big. I dislike Karla's robe cause it's too plain. I also dislike Akane and Maya's robe cause it's too strip-looking. Their breasts are exposed that much, especially Akane's. And, the cat ears doesn't look good. (Although Maya's robe suits her personality. hahahahah. XD)

Since the hair clip is not a symbol of office or normally part of the Robe, but rather Natsuki's personal "trademark". The Robes change the accessories the Otome is wearing. For example, Ayane's ribbons become part of her Robe. They turn into hard ribbons like Natsuki's hair-clip. Kinda like how Sara has a full mask because of the fact that she wears glasses.

Or maybe, your accessories will change according to the theme of the robe. Example of this is Shiho's Spiral Spin Serpentine. Her ribbons (cause she always wears ribbons at her hair right?) changed and it turned into skulls, (see episode 26, mai otome) the skeletal necklace she wore became a part of the robe too. (see episode 25, mai otome)

Oh. Arika's clip as well. Her clip turned into a ribbon that looks like jet wings, (in the pink+blue version) and kinda raised.

Because Arika's manga robe is only red as the Ultimate Blue Sky version (which is what's on that manga cover). Blue Sky version 1.0 is the one the figure has on: it's pretty much the same as anime version 1.0, except it's blue instead of pink. Don't ask why they felt the need to switch the colors, or why the Ultimate version of the Blue Sky Sapphire is red instead of, well...blue.

XD That takes away from the drama of "An Otome can never have love with a man" or "She must give up a woman's happiness"

Even in condoms do exist in that world, think of it this way.. XD;; You're usually tempted to do things you wouldn't with someone you're in love with (or just heavily lusting with ) What can start off as innocent petting can evolve into something heavy. In other words just because the option of "safe-sex" may have been there, doesn't mean in would have worked. Thus a complete ban was most likely seen as the best solution.

Well, as a Mai-Hime/Otome fan, I cannot believe I just discovered this place. What a shame.

But, getting back on topic...

Hard question, I think all robes have their ups and downs, possibly with the sole exception to Mai's robe (I will get back to that later). Thus, I think it has a lot to do with personal preferences. Natsuki for example, is a long range specialist. She is the artillery, does a lot of damage from afar, but probably would have a hard time if say, Shizuru gets up close and personal (then again, Natsuki probably wouldn't mind that, as long as its Shizuru). Shizuru, of course, is a dueling specialist who prefers to get close before dishing it out. Then there are the specialty robes, like a certain maki maki maki maki.

Now, you also have Mai, who is probably the best Otome combat specialist in her generation (and still one of the best). It also helps that her robe is uber haxed. Well, if her robe has a weakness, its her inability to fight discreetly. After all, the Fire Stirring Ruby looks like something designed for nothing but mass destruction.

Ah, how about the Pure White Diamond robe? I don't see it being mentioned much. Its too bad we don't know much about it. But since it is the robe of the so-called Shinso, I'd think its pretty powerful.

As for bad robes, probably any robe below a Meister level. :heh:

Actually, in Otome, they have been consistent.

Rena and Arika shares the same power using the same gem. While Arika cannot jump into Artemis mode quite yet, she corresponds to her mother's power and element in her level 2 transformation.

Una shares same power and element as Shizuru.

Iruma shares same power and element as Natsuki.

Elliot shares same power and element as Sarah.

So, based on these examples, I can safely say that the powers of the gems would remain unchanged regardless of the user.

Bump to keep thread alive! Anyway, looking over the robes from the Otome anime, and OVA's. I really like the idea that though someone would have the same robe passed down from one girl to another, that the Robe itself takes on a form unique to it's current owner. Example:

The only exception to the rule seems to be Arika and Lena, who Robe looks the same on each of them. And Fiar and Monica, who for some reason have the same Robe but different GEM's o.o
