Are yu-gi-oh MADs now incapable of not using touhou music? Not that I don't like it, it just seems the two has grown together. I saw one today that was too funny, so well made. Having ran ran rus, mario pause sounds, migi imigi eeeeees (A), the ore no turns,the implied homosexuality... I haven't had this much fun since I saw my first yu-gi-oh mad, which was kanipan's enemy controller (another touhou x yu-gi-oh). but I had to save this one, it was so good, please enjoy.

No... I only heard kaito once or twice, but I listened to about 4 songs yesterday (including ken hirai's elegy (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm2561182), lolololol), and I'm starting to like his voice more. Oh course miku will be what all others are measured against in my mind, but kaito has not knocked her off the top or anything, I just am warming up to his voice.

Your recommendation was really awesome, why do the kaito songs have a different feel? Why are they so.. european? Is it because there are few kaito users and they have the same style? And was that girl meiko or kaiko? I always thought meiko was with kaito... is kaiko a new voice, or just the commenters messing around? I really liked that song, thanks a bunch.

Lastly what are VOCALOID幻想狂気曲リンク songs, that might indeed play a big part in warming up to him, for the music must be great for me to even pay attention to the vocals. I looked on the original alice in dreamland vid, there were no tags that were similar to that. So could you explain that genre a bit more? I think I might really be into that style.

There is gentleman by the name of hackurl and he some of the most splendid chiptune songs ever, he did a chiptune cover of the ryuuseigun, and incorporated some of the most influental BGMs in from the games of yesteryear, I could not recognize them all, but streetfighter mean bean machine mario castlevania spelunker FF maybe dragon quest shinobi probably are all flawless incorpoarted into the mix, the melody is exactly the same, but it has been re arranged to fit in the games in the basslines, maybe supporting melodies and set of sounds, its wonderful, it almost made me shed a tear, this is what being otaku is all about to me.... Ties in anime video games and community... Its beautiful, too bad this video was not more popular, I just discovered it 5 months later... I highly highly recommend this to fans of chiptunes, fan of ryuuseigun, r people studying music to realize what a damn genious this guy is... I wish I could subscribe to his videos...

Is that really a meme per se? I've seen that video used outside of niconico and before it existed I think... I thought we'd be seeing the video + whatsthenameofthatsong (something bon-odori, was it?) but it's just Pink Floyd... If they juxtaposed it with something entirely inappropriate that might be more relevant to niconico I think :)

jigenbakuda: If you are a premium member you just get higher bitrate + filesize, but you can still submit awesome-looking videos as a normal member if you encode things properly. Do NOT submit avis and use server-side flv encoding, it usually turns out like shit.

Convert your video to flv/mp4 (h264 encoding) and submit it directly; as long as the audio + video bitrate isn't over 600 kb/s and the file is under 40 MB it should work OK and look exactly as you submitted it (although I've experienced odd colorspace (?) issues with some mp4s before).
If you want some good encoding settings... well it's awfully complicated depending on how much you know about encoding, try the tech forums, you'll get lots of help.

Man it's been ages since I've gone to niconico other than for a few select BGM slideshows. Didn't even realise there was a channel feature.

Become premium member.

Otherwise, if you know Japanese, look up the Nico wiki, I believe it's got articles teaching you how to encode videos.

Premium membership might be the easiest one-click sort of solution, but IMO it's not going to look that much better if server-side encoding or other bad encoding is used - you just get bloated files and many irate comments about the video being far too slow (and worse, probably not nice enough to make up for it)

IMO if you have the time to watch all sorts of stuff on nico, take some time and learn a bit of very basic encoding, even I can somehow grasp it so you should be able to too. Assuming you don't already know some of course.

You could tell us what kind of videos you are uploading perhaps, or how much better you want it to look. Do you need more focus on the audio or video or what?

Anyway rather than expect you to magically improve your Japanese now here's the uploading requirements as per nicowiki.com (http://nicowiki.com/encode.html)

You also must include some kind of audio file (learned this the stupid way - just use an mp3 of silence or something)

That's simple though. The problem is finding a good free program. IMO don't rely on nicowiki, many programs there are Japanese versions/programs and you are less likely to find help with a quick google. Never used AviUtl personally...
I think it would be easier if you used a program with a GUI, but I can't help - I only use mencoder and ffmpeg, they are command-line programs. It isn't as difficult as it looks if you ignore the fancy options and just get the basics done.

Try looking in the tech forums here and go google all the terms you don't understand. I think it's worth learning if you want to keep participating in online video communities.

Personally I would say if you are going for stuff focused on audio (audio slideshows, karaoke) use FLV - mp3 sounds a helluva lot better than AAC above shitty bitrates. But for very good video (much harder to achieve) use h264...

Generally though, vips are seen as snobbish sort in 2ch and elsewhere, so I don't think it's a Nico exclusive.

I'm curious too but I think even within 2ch VIPpers aren't exactly liked - and sometimes a site's original userbase can retaliate against subsequent incarnations/userbases because "It got popular and now it sucks".

Sometimes I guess the VIPpers don't care really - since they know Nico wasn't really "owned" by them they just feel happy trolling them and making them pissed off. Now among parts of 2ch you can use "nico-chu" as a derogatory word by labeling you as some young, ignorant kid who wwwwwwws at everything and thinks people dancing their ass off to some anime song is amusing.

It's troll video fodder footage from some gay porno films involving muscley men wrestling each other in their underwear, mainly.

Originally it was used for trolling videos where the screenshot would be some large breasted women and then it would switch to pants wrestling, or some other fake ero-video troll (hence you'll see "aniki wa mada?" comments on videos people suspect to be trolls). But it sort of became a true meme in and of itself, with remixes and all kinds of things. Recently someone took audio clips and arranged them to sing a pretty amusing version of Hatsune Miku's "Melt"...

It's so popular they even flew the main guy from the gay movies to Japan, and interviewed him. He's actually totally cool with it (well, it's not like I expected a gay porno star to turn down attention).

I'd rank it slightly higher than "airhorn" in terms of memishness.

Okay, either something's wrong with my browsers, or the site's now not letting foreign IPs log in. Just recently, Nico changed the way you log in. Instead of providing empty login boxes at every page, you have to go to a seperate page to log in. Problem is, either I get to that page, but only the text and boxes load, or it just times out trying to load the page. Even if I fill my details in and lg in, it'll fail to go through.

Oh wow that sucks... The original one was free, and came with a kick rear tutorial vid (music waz teh pro), but... it was only pictures and music. So they are making you pay for the new one? I really would love to try out the video movie maker..., its probably spiffy... But I guess if you are a pying member, whats a couple bucks fo better videos...

I finally took the time to register on nicovideo. It's great for some more obscure music and stuff, but the good AMVs usually get uploaded on Youtube as well. I don't know about anime...there might be some available with a premium account, or for a limited time when the publishers are promoting their stuff. But it wouldn't have subs, and there are better ways for us to see anime anyways...

Anything else nicovideo might be good for? I'm wondering about things that aren't usually uploaded on youtube and don't require the ability to read japanese.

You need Japanese to watch most, if not all of the content on nico nico.

Otherwise just wasting your time, lol.

There are more Japanese related stuff on there though, so the more obscure anime arrangements and things will be more likely to be found on nico nico rather than on youtube, but yeah.

Naw, I wouldn't go nearly that far. It helps but it's not necessary. Like the guy who plays high-speed Mario. He says some funny stuff but 90% of the humor comes from his reactions when he dies, which usually don't mean much of anything. If you're into Vocaloid music, too, then Nico is definitely the place to be; I know plenty of people enjoy Japanese music without understanding a word of Japanese. If you can use Wikipedia to find the keywords you want to search for and memorize/Google translate a few site functionalities you're good.

Though I gotta say Nico comments are like the best thing ever.
