As I noted the first time, they use the terms "feeling/reading the wind" as a metaphor for sensing 'emotions/thoughts' through fold space, in the form of "fold waves," which is something that we were introduced to in
Frontier.
It's not like The Force in that people can use it to move things around, just in the sense that it's something that exists and that connects everything, but some people (races/organisms) are better able to express or sense fold waves for various reasons. The important thing about it is that it's a medium for communication, for understanding how others feel without words etc.
Spoiler for Comments from Kawamori re: Frontier that are relevant for this topic...:
Here's a relevant quote from
a Frontier interview I translated back in the day:
Quote:
Because the fold bacteria in Ranka have been stimulated, her abilities in fold communication will only expand, and it’s likely that Sheryl too has that latent potential. From here on, we can’t talk about either Ranka or Sheryl in terms of ‘normal’ representations of emotion.

And here's some discussion about it from
Frontier's episode 25 commentary:
Quote:
Nakamura (Alto): Here, Alto speaks to Ranka through that earring, huh? It was around the middle of the series that Bilrer talked about it with Alto, that there was some material that could do this [i.e. connect people across the galaxy]. After that, when I watched the first few episodes again, I realised that this was why the earring flashed, and that’s how the song had been transmitted.
Kawamori: Yup, that’s it.
Nakamura: It was really interesting to watch it from the top again.
Kawamori: That was in episode 7, where the song was transmitted to Alto.
Endou (Sheryl): There’s a lot I missed, really.
Kawamori: Ah…well. We actually made the show with the following aim in mind: that if you watch it through, and then rewatch it again, you’d actually see it completely differently.

What they say about missing a lot on a first viewing of Frontier is true. There were a lot of little things I noticed in the show only after I actually understood what they were talking about. I suspect that quite a few viewers don't really understand the importance Kawamori et al have placed on the idea of "fold communication" though...
And that's all I'm going to be saying about this for now...mostly because
it hasn't yet been explained. But it seems like we're slowly getting more
bits and pieces about how it all works in
Delta. And after this most recent episode, I think I'll also need to rewatch
Zero, though I won't be able to do that til I get home in a few more weeks...
