Depends what you define as depressing. But personally I would say it's not depressing in the slightest. It's certainly one of the best airing this season, and it has it's fair share of laughs as well as tears, but nothing actually depressing (if by depressing you mean SaiKano style, definitely not).

I don't think Sola is depressing. It's certainly not your average romance or school kids story, but it's not depressing.
As for new ones that aren't... new what, series currently airing? Why don't you just go to the main page and take a look at any series listed there, for a wild stab? Without any sort of preferences or further information for what you're looking for, it's hard to make suggestions. |

Its serious... people are in lethal situations. Romance might fail tragically.
I guess it depends on what depresses you. If you're looking for light romance from start to finish, it may not suit you.

Surprisingly, for a story written by an author who has worked on Projects by Key, it isn't really that depressing. It's been a huge surprise for me, the biggest in a while and I'm honestly quite enjoying its complex web of character interactions. I said earlier this season I could see the ending coming from a mile away and how it was all going to play out, but I'm glad to say I couldn't have been more wrong.
For Spoilers in that these are things shown to actually not have happened, thus possibly revealing what did happen thus far: Spoiler:

Well, sola isn't depressing IMO. It has some sad parts but I don't think it fits to the category of being depressing. AIR and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, now those 2 are really depressing big time. So if you want to drown yourself to sorrow, I recommend those 2. But if you prefer not, then I'm sure there were tons of animes that are lively and happy-go-lucky out there.

I think Sola is one of the best Anime's in a long time.
but it really is not as heart breaking as Air and such... (but we'll se when the last episode is out next week) though I myself don't mind shedding some tears if the Anime is sad. I just feel alot better after the tears have droppet. everyone needs to cry sometimes. it's good for you ![]()

[Not on topic]
Haha, I thought you typed "And where were you when the man in the white skirt announced the unwritten rules of being a man." And I was busy contemplating gender equality, thank you for asking [even if you didn't ask me] ^__^. [On topic] It's not... depressing, I'd say. It doesn't go that far. It's sad sometimes, in a way, but I'd say that just boosts its appeal. Last edited by OceanBlue; 2007-06-27 at 21:15. Reason: Pfft, edits. |

Sheep's Song and Saikano got this title beaten hands down in the depressing department imo.
If you're thinking about adding magical girl titles to your list, then you might want to check out Kamichama Karin. ![]()
