The only way Sunrise could make Tieria's status as a male convincing, is if they use the classic plot device of "he was raised like a girl". e.g. Hazuki from "GetBackers" or the infamous Bridget from "GuiltyGear".

No, I don't think Sunrise will go there. This may be the worst kept secret ever.

This reminds me of something else; in an old TV Anime adaptation of the Three Musketeers, one member was a female. Her gender was hidden from the other characters, though not the audience. And the secret was not revealed until near the end. (Her need to hide her gender from her team mates tend to get her into deeper water in the adventures than otherwise.)
