Yeah, novel would be correct. Several scenes that occur in the novel occur on the Drama CDs but with slight alterations to allow for everyone to get parts in. I haven't heard the 1st Drama CD either...I need to go back and re-read the novels to make sure I get my facts straight on everything.

I'm still a bit confused on the novel part at times and I got parts of the manga from a generous friend of mine since I adore Mai above anyone else. I'll clarify with them a bit later as to what's where and whatnot story-wise.

Just so it's clarified - the NOVEL is being translated, the manga's being left alone for now as far as I know about translation plans. If someone else knows more on the subject, let me/everyone know please.

Yeah chapter 5 (thanks Maki-Maki!) was intriguing from the Shizuru x Natsuki side of things -- I had previously kind of given up hope on the possibility but now it's ''faith rekindled''.

Some spoilers about the manga, reference taken from the scanlated version of part 1 at yamibo.com. As always, credit goes to them, not yours truly.

Spoiler for Manga first part-continued in part 2 (END):

-Something (revealed later) is stolen from Kanzaki-gakuenchou's office. As everyone on the board knows by now, Fumi happens to touch the thief's boobs but is unable to see her face.
-The following day, Natsuki's band (herself, Mayo, Shion) are called to the student council office, where Haruka's 1337 linguistic talents are put on display yet again

-Mayo is accused because of her bustline and the other notable characteristic of the thief: her wearing of "something on her wrists"...Natsuki's "Mayo, omae..." and expression while saying that is priceless ::lol::
-Shion tries to stand up for Mayo but Haruka plows forward anyway since Mayo has no alibi, and by the end of it all, they are to bring a new suspect back to her in 24 hours while she keeps Mayo, the top suspect, in custody.
-To make things worse, Natsuki and Shion are forbidden to use telepathy as the school rules do not allow reading of others' minds without the target's permission (previously stated IIRC).
-Shion's response to that is "so it's alright as long as telepathy is not used?" and Shizuru, in her first line of the chapter, talks about Shion's special ability: psychometry.
-Shion goes on about how there are often instances in detective novels when one of the investigators is the one who committed the crime, before groping Haruka as a means of finding out

(this isn't stated explicitly, but can be inferred)
-A bit of a joke at Yukino's expense regarding her lack of presence, then Shion promises to Mayo (who is, as usual, having tears in her eyes <<||| ) that she will find the one behind it.
-After getting a copy of "Fuuka Gakuen Large Bust Ranking" from everyone's favorite NPCs (combined with a conversation that may likely be seen as flirting from the Chie/Aoi fandom), Shion goes on a groping adventure around the school, all in the name of investigation of course...what the heck is Sakomizu doing on that bust ranking?
-We get to see Nao not even worth the time (rofl) and some nice battling between Shion and Midori. The scene with Fumi...will probably spoil her image within the eyes of all those Shinsou-worshipping magical girls (never mind that this is AU)...
-The scene with Shion and Natsuki discussing the reasons behind the crime is a blatant ripoff of detective stories. Shizuru, the next target, is too godly that Shion doesn't return that night and appears the next day looking as energetic as a zombie...this is what you get for ignoring Natsuki's warning, kiddo.
-End of first part concludes with a collision and "You are the culprit, Tokiha Mai-san!!"

Yes, but it's more like a short side story instead of starting at the beginning with Mayo's arrival at Fuuka. I don't think it will tie in to the main storyline.

Does anyone know why they aren't releasing more chapters for this novel? I would really like to see how this story continues. I think it is better then mai otome, probabaly because I like the setting and powers more then the one's in mai otome.

I think they did but maybe nobody bothered scanning them since it's a novel?

So, I just sort of listened to the drama CDs. It makes me want to at least learn the basics of Japanese even more. >___>;;;;

It's pretty much the light novel as someone as said before. I'm trying to figure out what Mai and Natsuki were talking about. I can't understand what they're really saying, aside from Natsuki being surprised to see Mai and something involving clubs. I believe Mai did say something about Natsuki and the Seto Kaichou-san, which made my ears perk up. And what was Mai dragging along? It sounded kind of heavy. Maybe it's related to that short manga.

There's also a part with Natsuki and Shizuru that screams ShizNat to me. Shizuru seems to have that teasing tone in her voice and she even says "ikezu". Why do I get the feeling that there's going to be a Shizuru's Prelude, similiar to how Natsuki had one in Mai-Hime? Not like that'd be a bad thing because I'm curious about what took place those few years before Mayo arrived.

Haha, a few things remind me of the Sentai Ranger parody in the bonus track of the second Mai-Hime drama CD. xD;

One last thing. In the first Destiny drama CD, did Haruka say that Mai was Tate's girlfriend? It felt like that and my knowledge of the language is non-existant, rofl.

Spoiler: I don't know whether to read Destiny's SxN as 'like having a (ex) lover's tiff' - but a similar phrase was used to describe Takeda/Natsuki in an earlier chapter. And that is so so wrong. I often view many novel/manga things as so skewed that they don't seem legit anyway - we'll have to see. I'd rather Shizuru was paired up with someone new (female and non psychotic) than have Natsuki's 'alternative love interests', again. ShizNat would be much more preferable though. Anyway, spoil away.
