Despite its ability to engage in melee, yup Tau Commanders are best used in hit and run tactics using snare traps rather than direct mortal combat (especially against freaking Warbosses and Big Meks ), unless your have all your wargear or upgrades available.

I find them hard to attack with myself they're very vulranble to disruption and transports loaded with melee or jump troops as their mobile AT early mid game is very bad. They shoot fairly well, but not so monstrously well as to totally make up for their utterly shit melee, Kroot just as in the table top don't make up for crap about the only thing they out melee are guardsmen and guardians, even tactical squads can take them if they have a power weapon armed Sargent (who dose the same damage as something like 6 Kroot with a fist) any other actual melee unit just slaughters them.

And Grey Knights? Don't we already have those here?

It’s even better in the novels where we get like 6 of them out witting and purging an PLANET covered in demonic corrupted killer robots and a demon possessed titan, yes you heard that right DEMON POSSESSED TITAN. Their badass meters are off the fucking charts. But I mean anyone that uses physiclly enhanced halberds, blessed napalm, machine guns loaded with magic bullets, and warded power armor and hundreds of years of experience can’t help but kick all kinds of ass.

3 vs 5 comp stomp… The last guy on our team was IG dug in at the main entrance with like 10 HW teams and a full cap of Basi, using the rest of his cap to support our pushes with tanks while he held the base.

The first three went down pretty easy, but those last two… so many turrets. *shudders* and they had like 15 production center so no matter how fast we were slaughtering shit it just came in waves and began pushing us back with a slow trickle of losses, until finally as we got near our base we pushed them back with a slow bleed but then the attack stalled out near them and we went back, and so and so on like 5 times...

If you look at the little yellow bar in the corner that’s how far through the playback I am, and it’s at 35 minutes. My longest DOW game ever, it was NUTS my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the kill counts at the end. Was a good team though everyone knew what they where doing and hung in their for the long haul.

May not be as perfect as the extended family you described, but can pretty much understand that kind of situation (especially with the "my family likes to get together for parties at the slightest excuse just to hang out because we all like each other" part ).

I don't really mind my family as a number of good cooks in it as well so having a party meant lots of good free food...

Nice setup. Reminds me of that one Generals game where the others bought me enough time to build 15 or so Nuke Canons.

Nuke cannons where pretty good awfully vulnerable to oh 20+ Fuel Air Auroras though... We were winning pretty badly by the time I got all those, but getting to sic them on the last dudes rapidly dying base (the others where cowering with him) as a coup de grace was sill fun as hell.

Mass King Raptors was fun too though:
“Little Air Show for our fans out there!”
Point defense lasers for teh win, but either way lusciously large numbers of Jets was my fav tactic in team games.

And that's what bothers me. Well, that, and the retcon (Hayate could handle Nanoha and Fate just fine in the manga) but I mean come on, if you're going to make her a specialist, at least show just why she became one.

Well just one more problem for us to try and explain nothing new there. *le sigh* I don't mind so much though coming from Star Wars and Trek such little retcons seem downright insignificant.

Agreed. Keroko too, was ranged focused with a bit of melee skill when she started out (she was little more then a brawler given an axe back then). Only later did she improve on her melee skills as well, and balanced the skills out. The downside is that she really doesn't exell in either now, compared to the others.

I just like guns myself, but I can see why someone might like sword fighting it is sort of romantic, but I'm not a particularly romantic fellow so I tend toward practicality fellow in my chosen battle implements.

Versatile? You call them versatile? Space Marines are without a question the most overpowered army in 40K, rivaled only by the Chaos Space Marines. And guess what? They're Space Marines gone bad. -_-;

Probably the biggest reason why I don't play Space Marines -no matter how much I like them- is that virtually everyone plays them. For me that takes a lot of the fun away. And seeing how I like the Tau as much as the Space Marines, the choice was rather easilly made.

I'm not a Kroot user anyway. I like my armies in shiny high-tech armor, not freak-mutants (Yes, I've always been biased against Kroot, sue me). Bad tactics? Some might say so. But Kroot are worthless against any decent assault team anyway. *shrug* Markerlight away and see how the suddenly BS5 Tau tear away the enemy.

For some reason, thse retcons bother me far more then any Str Wars retcon. Maybe because nothing in Star Wars really surprises me anymore (They brought Darth Maul back how many times now?).

I'm a romantic guy when it comes to weapons. Though a good gun is never wrong in my book either.

Ah, that's the Chinese name for it, huh? I didnt pay much attention to girls in Chinese dresses up until I saw Mei, though. (MY GOODNESS ---*ehem* sorry about that)

Table-top? Yeah done to death and arguably overpowered, I think some of the “overpowered”-ness though comes from the fact that SO many people play them though. Due to that you can basiclly just go on the internet and find 15,000 very effective army builds and guides that will tell you exactly what to do against ANYTHING. Basiclly with so much info even a total nub can build a really good army and have a decent grasp of counters if he has even the SLIGHTEST inclination toward research.

Now go up on the Net and look for Ork, Tau, or even IG builds and strategies? You’re going to be in for some trial and error and allot of butt sex before you get any kind of effective army going, unless you’re lucky enough to have a good teacher. I don’t actually play the game tabletop, no on around out here, though I do own the codex and talk about it with and read web boards and battle reports and such. I acutally have some models, IG, but that’s a purely ascetic and fluff thing I happen to think they look cool and have nice fluff. They're like really expensive green army men…

Which I also still have a huge shopping bag full of from my childhood when I’d often spend hours setting up hundreds of them in huge dioramas around my sisters stolen doll houses (which she never used anyway) and Lego field fortifications, “Artillery, quick men get into the red, blue, white, black, yellow, and pink bunker!”

My military Otakuism runs deep.

I'm a socially accepted guy, people seem to like me despite me not going through excessive lengths to draw attention. They always seem to remember me, though. Even people I never talk to seem to know me.

Somehow I seem to come off as scary and brooding. =/ I've had people say to my face stuff like "You don't talk very much do you?" or once when while discussing possible report topics on a break one girl went "You should do a presentation about blood and guts; because you're scary!", I wanted to go like "Hold up there bitch, WHAT?!" but then once she had the balls to say it people agreed with her!

And I experienced a desire to kill... which might be part of the problem huh?

I'm a romantic guy when it comes to weapons. Though a good gun is never wrong in my book either.

I can't suspend my disbelief that much in allot of cases I'll see some guy defeating a bunch of gun toting men with a sword and just cringe. Plus I never quite grasped why would WANT to go back to swords either... Truth be told stabbing someone to death at close range is quite ghastly and rather messy, shooting them is much easier and makes the killing much more efficient and easier emotionally, medieval warfare was not fun OR romantic.

Simultaneous, the ground’s sound shatter as they both slammed their right leg first to the ground, a momentum of strength… as the wind seems to blow a dust of sand within the thickets of the jungle… In that moment of temporary blindness, the sound played as in unison again, the sound of loading cartridges…

[Explosion.]

The 2 knights were approaching.

Crimson and brown, both pair of eyes were aflame, like demons in hellfire as they stepped their step into their weapon’s distance…

Like a thunder, the last step stopped as their blades lunged towards one another, the unseen motion of the edge… It was like the blades met before the sound of the clash…

Impact.

And the sound which accompanied afterwards.

“Swish, swish, swish, swish… Clang!”

The weight of his blade vanished from my right arm… No, actually, all feeling was lost. I feel no pain, no weight… nothing. And yet, within this turmoil of a split-second, as I face the eyes of the knight in front of me, I can tell from his eyes and my reflection in it…



My sword was destroyed, its edge slashed as it swung backwards, the sound of its blade hitting the earth behind me several meters away… My hand too, pushed backwards, with only its hilt, was in a way, defeated... My arm is there… but it feels as if it was just slashed from my body, only without pain.

It was a simultaneous collision.

But I was blown away.

My blade... was it that light?

No.

His blade.

It's heavy.

And what came after…

Isdera’s body was falling backwards from the undercut of Zest’s spear. Seemingly afloat, time seems almost immaterial, his body as if adrift along with the clouds of blood which spurred from his open wounds, ripping all over his body with the scar on his chest reaching down to his torso the last remnant of his defeat…

As his eyes were close to its curtain fall, his iris gone from its sight as all his eyes were white….



Just then, the sound of a ripping skin was only so present, as the sight of the sky seems to have suddenly revolved, the seemingly slowing time moving adrift. Biting his lips and the skin of his mouth, almost like a blood-thirsted monster, his lower lips were adorned with red, almost like a lipstick of blood as he donned further red into his crimson-covered body of, as his eyes shot forward, his iris red of fire, refocused, his normally calm face now twisted not unlike a beast…



It was sudden impulse… As if drawn to the glint of his sword’s broken blade, his body almost afall, struggled as he shot his leg, slamming it to the ground as the momentum forcefully shot his body backwards as he repositioned himself, his fingers clawing the ground, his legs pushing backwards, like a wolf leaping backwards as he only eyed Zest, who’s sign of ever so slight shock was visible in his eyes…

But neither allowed it to make it their worst.

Isdera stood up, as his eyes glared at Zest, just as Zest too… not taking a moment away from Isdera… Despite being tattered all over, looking like a finger’s push could very well kill him, Zest actually felt more…fearful of his current state, as his eyes were filled with determination and strength, almost unbefitting of his current state.

Almost like a injured beast pushed to a corner… but Zest himself, did not allow himself to be taken in. He himself too, had been in situations like his, just as he recalls his death under Cinque’s hands…

That is why he knows... that the man in front of him, clearly... does not fight blindly... He is a man carrying a weight of something. What is it... Zest do not know. But it mattered not to them.

“I admire your courage, young knight of old. But like yourself, I too have a reason to continue my struggle… And you have lost your blade, not to mention both your arms too probably can barely exert anymore strength. You can’t possibly win.”

“Hmph… don’t give me that bullshit. That is no reason to give up. Even if you destroy my weapons, even if you shatter this body of mine, so long as my faith and pride stands, I will never give up. This is… my conviction as a knight.

Just as you fight to protect those you wish to protect, I too, had been entrusted to be the sword that would protect those important to me… Just as they believe in me, I too will not falter in my believes… I WILL DEFINITELY NOT LOSE!!”

With those words, the proof of Isdera’s conviction was only reinforced further as clenching his teeth as tightly as he could, he pulled out Zulfiqar’s blade deeply rooted from the ground as more blood was flowing from the side of his mouth, cuts visible from when he pulled it out…

The both of them only stared at each other further… Both acknowledged that words were of no further use at that moment… In the end, they were knights. And transcending time, there was one language that never died for their generation. The language that is their faith and pride, harnessed and expressed through their own being.

“A pity. Had we met under different circumstances, we probably could’ve been friends.”

Zest sighed, just as he positioned his spear forward…

“I already consider us as friends… just not the type of friends you’re probably talking about.”

Isdera too, as he stood strong, with his hand lightly holding a hilt without power, and his clenched teeth holding its strength to its entirely on his blade…

“I suppose you’re right…”

Zest rushed forward, as he pressed his blade onwards, a golden lightning burst stemming from his body like an arrow, splitting the air around him.

Isdera on the other hand, his neck muscles pulsing, stretched to its limits, as he flinged his neck forward, releasing the blade spinning like a boomerang in the air, just as he leaped in the air, his body spinning for a sidewinder kick as he placed all his weight on the sword as he kicked it towards Zest as hard as he could.

"HISSATSU!!!"

Is this your final struggle, Isdera? As a fellow knight, it is disappointing, but in your condition, it’s almost a miracle you could even live, much less stand, walk, and continue this battle with me. Your final attack will not defeat my Full Drive, but at least, I shall oblige with full power…

The sound of a broken blade, just as I could see Isdera’s blade cracking as it shattered, its pieces dropping… but what came along… was something I’d never fathom.

What…is this?

An almost invisible pressure was clashing with my blade… no, the remnants of Isdera’s blade, pieces of it did not fall despite being broken by me… but rather, the pieces of the blade are being sustained by some sort of translucent, invisible blade, that is holding this thrown blade at me…

My eyes focused, as where Isdera now fell after releasing this, a red Belkan triangle was formed underneath…

Could this be…a Ancient Belkan Rare Skill?

However!

My legs touched the ground slightly, kicking the earth below me, as I did not stop my progress as I pushed forward against the invisible blade, which was being pushed back by my superior power…

“This is not enough to defeat me.”

“I know.”

The words echoed, like a dead man’s voice…His body, which had fallen after he exerted all his strength… He was struggling, limping even as he could barely move his body. The only things unchanged, were the determination of his eyes…

“In the end, it’s just not like me…to not fight without the clash of the blade.”

Those were his words... as his right hand, shivering… pain seeping within, he struggled as he placed his bladeless hilt of Zulfiqar, firmly gripped on his teeth…

One second ago, there was a man there swinging his fiery hands…

And then before my eyes…

He seemed more like a fearsome monster.

Isdera releases a final burst of energy amidst his highly instable Rare Skill… Myst, as he channeled every last bit of control over his emotional outburst of negative energy… the one source when Myst can actually be used, and also a painful fact for a knight like him, who does not fight blindly, but with his pride…

Just then, for just a moment, enveloped by crimson of both his magical color and the dye of red that covered his body… from within his body, swords… invisible, only tinted slightly by his own blood seemingly shot out from his body… as the swords vanished just as they were released, as Myst was formed on the hilt of his sword on his mouth…

And just then, he shot himself, like a bloody wolf towards the rushing golden lion in front of him… With nothing but his sword left, his teeth held on as he slammed his entire weight onto his final attack…

"X!!!!"

The swords collide...

"CROSS!!!!!!!"

Forming a cross that strikes upon Zest's blade...

"BREAKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A final attack.

A blinding light. A cross of light, intertwining along heaven’s road.



At least to Agito, Lutecia and Garyuu… that was what it looked like. Not one of them knew… why were they just standing there, watching in silence. Why did they not disobey Zest’s orders, and went to assist him when his enemy’s already seriously injured… No, rather… why did they did not so much speak a word?

Agito didn’t know… but there was a sense of awe…nostalgia as the scene in front of her plays at the back of her mind repeatedly. Her body was shivering…not out of fear, not out of worry…but out of a indescribable feeling of excitement, desire even…

This is…a knight’s…battle…

The dissipating lights, as 2 men can be seen standing at the end of each road…

Which road of destiny is the one smiled upon by the Goddess of Victory?

• Myst : Just in case anyone forgets, Myst is Isdera's Rare Skill, an IS for him in a manner of speech since it was artificially formed from his experimented past. It allows him to conjure translucently invisible swords from his body so long as there's some form of physical medium. However, he can only use it when he's at an emotional height, bordering a berserker state and it is extremely unstable as well.
  
• X-Cross Breaker : A double attack which combines the combined offensive power of a thrown boomerang-ish weapon slammed together with the actual charge of the sword. The original version is actually using the sheathe as its throwing weapon, and the sword to strike at the same time.
• Ventriloquism : One of the things Isdera picked up in his years on Earth other than knowledge on automobiles, etc is ventriloquism. So, he can speak too even when his teeth is grabbed onto the sword.

Wow... I didnt expect the fight to go THIS far...awesome. I didnt expect Zest to overpower Isdera THIS badly, either. But the ending was truly awesome.

With his sword broken again, since now he can use a sword with his mouth, will we see Isdera using Santōryū? Later we'll see him shouting "ONIGIRI!!"

You'd be surprised how many actually bother to decide which way their planes are using to reach the target. Almost everyone just points them in the general direction and lets them fly.

Depends on the setting for me. Does the person in question have awesome powers? If answer is no, then -_-

Sword versus gun only works for me when mysterious powers come into play. Otherwise it just looks even les believable then it would otherwise.

2 seems much too recent since Ginga and Subaru were still kids then and Quint died along with Zest. I'm giving it at least 5 years ago if that's any help.

Sein should be at least there if not much further along. 3-year-old Sein, though for that matter, half of the Numbers aren't even 2 yet.

Someone asked that question in Q and A but in the end, there was no conclusive answer though 25-28 was the range in mind.


Fate snapping was one way that scene way back in ep 24 could have gone.

Condolence from me.

Even more bad news. My main computer crashed, and I'm guess it's with all the things in it. It's a good thing I kept slightly updated copies of my word works in my USB Data disk. Losing the MP3's, videos, games and whatnot is fine, as long as I have my OC thread material. I'm stuck with using this backlog-resistant(NOT) laptop.

That said Laptop seem rather more… prone to breakage then a desktop for any number of reason they get jumbled, dropped, can be exposed to moisture and way more varieties or particulates, they can have ventilation blocked and overheat (most of the first chipset temperature monitoring was to keep Laptop chips from melting themselves…), they just run hotter to begin with due a lack of air space, etc. So backing up is probably more important with a Laptop, easier too as they have much smaller drives in many cases. That said it’s also why I don’t use a Laptop as my main machine.

I have a cheapo refurbished one I got for like 300 bucks for word processing and browsing and such, but it has nothing really important on it and I use it mostly as a really expensive notepad in class. (Yes this is an absolutely gratuitous purchase to just have to keep from acutally writing notes, but it’s my money! Plus I also use it to play X-com, Steel Panthers, or Civ 2 sometimes if it gets really boring… turn based for the win!)

Haven't had any problems with my laptop.... although that might be more because it's pretty new.

It’s called specialization and it has its uses. It’s much better to be good at one thing then shit at 5 and it probably takes a fairly high level mage to be able to do both with any kind of proficiency. Specialization at the lower ranks is only sensibleand since ranged combat would have a higher margin or error and safety it follows further that would be the most common type. It takes balls, a power advantage, or mad skillz (maybe all of them) to charge at someone with what amounts to a gun with a melee weapon.

Also I probably won’t be doing much for the next few days as I’ve got Mid-terms all this week… pretty much all fic work is stunted too as of now with Chap 3 something like half to two thirds done at about 4,000 words.

It’s even better in the novels where we get like 6 of them out witting and purging an PLANET covered in demonic corrupted killer robots and a demon possessed titan, yes you heard that right DEMON POSSESSED TITAN. Their badass meters are off the fucking charts. But I mean anyone that uses physiclly enhanced halberds, blessed napalm, machine guns loaded with magic bullets, and warded power armor and hundreds of years of experience can’t help but kick all kinds of ass.

I should see it I can find some of those novels... I've read some of them, but none involving the Grey Knights.
