i only belive that this 'tournement' is going to be 2 or 3 chapters (at max 5)... doesn't feel even near to even ... i get the feeling that Negi can beat whatever they throw after him without even getting a sweat ... specially after the extended training sessions he had at Eva between the Arc's ... only one that could be a problem is miss Pedobear

Yeah, I don't think Negi himself would actually mention it. But I can see Kotarou or Asakura mentioning it to everyone :P Maybe even Chisame.

Besides, doesn't Ken usually do a storyline someime during the first two months of the year that focuses on Nodoka's feelings for Negi? If Ken is to continue with that pace, either he needs to cut the tournament short or do a few chapters that focus on her (and those people that are with her) during a section where nothing important is going on during the tournament.

Chapter 196 is about tournament. From how this tournament chapter is being unfolded, I would guess that this second tournament arc will take at least half a volume. Hopefully, Ken will realize that people are not looking for Dragonball when they are reading Negima, and he will cut many battles and go straight to the end of this stupid and unecessary arc.

That could be true. But this could also bring trouble for them. He may not be the Thousand Master, but Negi does resemble him, he is strong, and he does use the same staff. Next thing they know, everyone may actually believe he is the real Nagi (making himself younger somehow), and that could just make things a lot worse. Maybe old enemies and allies will make appearances.

I'm not quite sure what "196 jikan me" (Period 196?) means, but right next to it, it says something about a new hero appearing. If I interpreted the katakana correctly. Looks like the title of a new chapter to me...

Yeah, I know, but I don't know how they write that in Japanese.

"jikan" is the word often used for a class period (though it pretty means "some interval of time").　Kanji:　字間　Hiragana:　じかん　 (not absolutely sure about the kanji but the first character is used in terms associated with children)

Personally, I don't think we're really going to see what Ken's plan for the current tournament arc is going to be until the next chapter, since it's possible that the current chapter may have been done to get a gist of the tournament before shifting focus to some other girls while we ignore the the other fights (Negi/Kotarou fights included) that aren't important to the story.

Given the fact that there's still the importance of finding the other students (not to mention a certain pattern that I've noticed when it comes to the way Ken writes the Negima manga), I expect one of two things will happen:

1. The tournament will only last four or five more chapters;
2. The next chapter will begin to shift focus to another group of girls, most likely those girls that are about a few hundred kilometers away from Negi.
