actually air and haruhi are by the same writer isnt it? hwo about clannad? those 3 look very similar. anyway in animes, eyes and stuff really gotta depend on the storyboard and scene animators instead of the original artist isnt it? i notice that alot of manga chars actually look different

Hmm, I can't say a particular character, but I've always loved Ken Akamatsu's eye design. It's simple yet effective, and very very nice looking.

Oh, and Tony Taka's eye works are always completely full of awesomeness.

Yes, Claymore eyes are beatutifull, but my favorites are:

Full metal Panic the second raid.. sousuke`s and Tessa`s eyes are pretty and enigmatic
And it sounds weird, because they are weird eyes, but Hei`s eyes are beautifull.. they seem black but they are navi blue.. i think they are very special.
And of course, salura`s and Syaoran`s are pretty sweet

In the good old days, CardCaptor Sakura beats everybody in the eyes department.

Right now, i would say the honor belongs to the works of Kyoto Animation. I'm naming the studio rather than any particular work because they improve from series to series. Since Clannad is the latest series from them, it's the best; and since we only go through Fuuko and now Kotomi arcs, they're the best now.

And of course, when you're really good, people imitate. Many studios have been copying Kyo-Ani's style in their drawing. Some of them are good and improving too. But too often, they do so with a lack of consistency. Meaning, one episode or even one scene, it's good, then it becomes bad again.

Some of the eyes that i found good in recent animes for one reason or another (except those from Kyo-Ani):

• Main characters of Shugo Chara! - In terms of drawing quality and consistency, it's probably the closest to Kyo-Ani, but the eyes aren't moving, they're still.
• Shion of Shion no Ou - Good for awhile, but ...
• Itsuki of Rental Magica - Glam Sight.
• Ruru of Code Geass - Geass.
• Nia of Gurren Lagann - Crossed eyes.
• Claymores of Claymore - When their silver eyes glow.

Hmmm its a shame that nobody here except for myself who mentioned Nono. Everyone knows Nia, but nobody knows that her eyes came from Nono.

Nia has a flower for her pupil, Nono had a star and she even has a reason for having such eyes.

Well, GAINAX produced both of them, the most unique eyes to ever appear in anime.

Are you referring to Gunbuster 2? I watched some episodes ages ago but i didn't notice anything special about Nono's eyes. What a shame!

I suppose anything done by KyoAni in the last 3 years. Haruhi, Clannad, Kanon, and Air all had characters with really detailed iris designs. They also added more detail to character's eyes in FMP! The Second Raid.

mm, all i can remember is from Black Lagoon; Balalaika, in several episodes i really liked her eyes.

Fuuko Kuzuha's ruby-red eyes and the female Hibiki Amawa's emerald green eyes from I My Me Strawberry Eggs. What a perfect contrast those eyes were for such a cute pair.

Glycine Bleumer's sky blue eyes (Sakura Taisen 3) and Elise Housen's deep blue eyes (Canvas 2) are both enthralling as well.

In addition, Saber (Fate/Stay Night) had such sparkling green eyes.

I gotta admit that for me Clannad's and Air's eyes are a major turnoff :/ The shape is just soo *shivers*
I guess my favorite anime eyes of all times are from Magic Knight Rayearth. They caught my eye on the first second and I just can't forget them.
