The thing I found most remarkable about the first episode is really the atmosphere -- it's weighty, depressing, and almost brooding at times. At first that made it hard to "get into" but by the end of the episode I was starting to understand where they were coming from. None of the characters in this story are happy campers, to say the least -- which, I suppose, makes sense given the title and theme. Here's to hoping that, by the end of the show, the heavy clouds will have lifted and the characters will finally find a way to be truly happy and free. That's sort of the feeling I got from the first episode, anyway.

The one scene in particular that stood out for this was actually the bath scene. It started like the classic cliche, but they totally flipped it and turned into something... I don't know... weighty? The protagonist actually found himself wanting the stereotypical response just to show that his life wasn't actually as depressing as it is. That's the sort of atmosphere the show seeps from every pore. It's a very odd feeling in a genre that typically starts with things pretty generic/happy and turns tense later. Not by any means saying it's bad, it just takes some getting used to.

Production-wise... it really looks different than most anime I can remember, actually. Very distinctive colours, artstyle, backgrounds, and effects. I'm not a very big fan of the way they used CG to automate some human motion, though, mostly because it sticks out too much (it runs more smoothly than the rest of the animation). That being said, overall, I think the show looks pretty good; music and voice acting also seemed pretty good.

Anyway, I'd like to keep watching to see more of what they're doing with this.

One of the best OP/EDs I've seen so far.

This could get really good. I really got into the series real fast and it went by so quickly. The main character isn't some boring stereotype either.
The main moody scenes are inside the house, where the overall atmosphere is pretty heavy. Shinichirou's mom doesn't seem to have a good relationship with Hiromi either, and it seems that his mom wants him to do something that he doesn't want to do, because he is a Nakagami.
Noe... is a strange one. Yes... And from the preview, she says she has something she needs to do. Whether this is supernatural or just her delusional imagination, time will tell...

Can't really say much about it at this point, except that it reminds me strongly of ef. Here we have another eroge adaptation with an artistically inclined protagonist. I love the melancholic and somewhat mysterious characters. Definitely following this, huge potential.

The OP song is actually really great, done by eufonius again (CLANNAD OP), but this one beats megumeru IMO.

I wonder.. Will True Tears beat Myself;Yourself / School Days / H2O Footprints / CLANNAD?
I have a good impression of it from the trailer already, but H2O will probably stay head-on vs. True Tears, and I'm loving CLANNAD so far, so..

Relentlessflame already wrote out the things that i wanna say about this series.It's exactly just like what the rumors says about this series...i just love almost every part about the first episode...the OP song,the anime quality,character design,the atmosphere,the background...and the only things that need to be measured out for now is the quality of the story/plot.



For now gonna stick to this series first.Looks very promising,although it probably will be the same just like other school life anime.,but i can sense something unique about this series,that differentiate it from other school life series.So for now,i keep my thoughts and comments first about this series.

I didn't know what to expect from this series but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised It is a nice change of pace from other love stories, one which can be described as being "heavy" as relent pointed out. The mood is heavy so I will be expecting drama which will truly make this "true tears".
I thought that the chicken girl would be different but it turns out that disaster struck around the corner...I can see that all the characters here have a deeper side to them, and just watching the develop will be a treat

Maybe this show will have its own way of making an anime that seems more dramatic than its original game, like KimiKiss. I'm not going to compare it with ef just yet, since I didn't get as strong a feeling about the direction and tone, but we'll see.

I had hopes for this show since it is directed by the director of Simoun, Nishimura Junji, and written by Okada Mari, who wrote numerous episodes of that show.

Somehow I recognized Neviril's voice in the first episode. Shinichiro's mom I think. Also the way in the end the still picture turns into a sketch (?) reminds me of Simoun.

just finish watching True Tears ep 1, 1st impression was good, i like the style also, cant wait for next episode. the 3 girl quite cute as well ^^.

Watched six different shows thus far and it seems this one has the potential to be one of the really good ones from this season. The visual was pretty good too even though there were a lot of cg used. The atmosphere surrounding the show reminded me of Sola. Will be looking forward to episode 2.

Good ear. I didn't notice that until you mentioned it. And Fujiwara Keiji was his dad (Shuu-chan in Honey & Clover, Togo in Sky Girls, etc., etc.)

I'm no animation expert, but the show seemed to me to have unusually good detail in places.
