I almost come to tears when I watch ep19's end of Scrapped Princess
and I don't cry often...
I also cried at the end of Guu [ep26, 1st season]

Woah woah woah, don't download licensed anime, especially not sad ones! Buy the ones people are suggesting if they're licensed (like Grave of the Fireflies). Kanon is probably the only sad anime on AnimeSuki that has brought me to tears, though Sister Princess RePure also made me weep for my sanity.

If you've already seen Kanon, than I would suggest you watch Mizuiro. The game is fantastic, but the anime is sort of "Kanon-lite".

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is pretty depressing at times, if you're interested in love anime...

With a lot less plot, but pretty art style, I liked Shingetsutan Tsukihime while it lasted.

I'm new here, so my suggestion may not be great. The Zone of Enders Movie, is very good, but has a very sad ending.

Grave of the Fireflies is an anti-war animation movie. It is the saddest thing you'll ever see.

Da Capo is pretty sad. Similar to Kanon in many ways.

i remember watching a really sad anime as a kid, it was either a movie or a ova, i really want to find it, i hope you guys can id this, well its about this little girl that grew up in a village, her familys very poor, shes the oldest, with 2 lil brothers, she lives with the mom, dad, and gramma, she gets along with the gramma the most, but the dad is realy strict with her, even tho she does good and helps the family alot. One day the family gets so poor, that the father sells her as a servant to another family, she is constantly treated like shit with that family. that is all i remember. i really want to see this again. i hope someone can find it. Its from the late 80's or the really early 90's. thanks

OMG! This is unreal! Not a single mention of one of the saddest animes of all time...that's right....SAIKANO! Buy a box of tissues cuz this anime is like a bucket of onions eyedrops.

EDIT: Okay I see that this is for downloading...however if you don't live in the US or anywhere where it would be illegal to download it do so. Also if you can't download it buy the DVDS! It's defineatly worth it.....

I'm also looking for another sad series. My favorite series is Scrapped Princess and it has made me cry, for many reasons. It's a sad anime, and in the fantasy style which I like. I watched many "sad" animes such as Grave of the Fireflies, Elfen lied, Gunslinger Girls, etc, and have not shed a tear but except for those caused by my frequent yawns. So, im looking for a good (sad) series similiar to the genre of fantasy/magic

Grave of the Fireflies is a movie, but a hundred times better and more beautiful than the average series...

So if you want something sad, I suggest:

Now and Then, Here and There
Grave of the Fireflies

Both of which I cried at. If you want nostalgia sad, you can't get any better than the movie

Only Yesterday

Or if you want something that has sad parts, but is not altogether that sad, you may wish to check out this series and movie, respectably:

Wolf's Rain
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade

Everything I mentioned is licensed.

I woukd recomend Millenium Actress. it's licensed, but if you have not seen it you need to. It has very good animation and it's worth the $20 for the DVD.

For something sad, how about if you buy the DVD's for Shingetsutan Tsukihime?

If you can read Japanese, get Shingetsutan Tsukihime the game.

Yeah Shingetsutan Tsukihime is a really sad anime. I just ordered the entire collection, eventhough the 3rd DVD won't be released till 2/28/05. I wish i could buy the game right now, but i can't since i can't read japanese well enough. All i can do is wait for Mirror Moon to finish translating it.
