Hmm, this is interesting. Either Kaname tricked Sophia into thinking she killed Souske and Tessa or Sophia tricked Kaname into thinking the had done it. If it's the former, then Kaname has a bit more sway with Sophia than it seems. If it's the latter, Sophia's up to something and needs Kaname and Leonard to think Souske and Tessa are dead. I think whatever is going on it was important that Leonard thing Souske and Tessa are really dead and the illusion is meant really to keep Leonard in the dark (Leonard can't catch Kaname in a lie if she actually believes she did what she did). Now this incident could be set up to trick Sophia into believing what happened, happened, as well. However, I still am not sure how Sophia could be tricked by this since I would think she's the one with the ability needed to pull the trick off.
Spoiler for NOT last part:
Sophia kill Sousuke and Tessa but in the end it's only an illusion.
Then Sophia lie to Leonard about Sousuke and Tessa death to make the illusion even more real to Kaname.
In the end Kaname has probably no reason anymore to stop Sophia to take over or do what she wants.
Sousuke and Tessa should be needed by Sophia else no reason to use an illusion and Leonard should probably know about the plan, else the lie could be detrimental to Sophia since some minutes later Sousuke was fighting Leonard and Casper was trying to capture Tessa.
In the end Tessa simply wants to stop the whisper and make world calm down, whereas Leonard wants to revert the world to what he should have been if the Omega Sphere experiment has never happened.
So Tessa like the world she is living on and probably think that they don't know what the alternate world could be like. And Leonard simply don't care about the current world so going for an alternate dimension is fine with him (after all he thinks he is some kind of martyr and that no one likes him (he is no martyr but thats for sure no one likes him )).
For the last novel I think that Al will have a role to play, the discussion between Milla and Hunter at the end of MMD point to Al being way more than an advanced IA or an artificial consciousness.
And if Al is the one to destroy Leonard's plan I will be delighted, Leonard has never think very highly of Bunny Morauta and has been calling the ARX System a failure for most of the novels. That will be the biggest blow to is superiority complex he has never receive
It has already be revealed that Bunny has killed himself because of the Whisper, that has also happened to other Whispered but what if Sophia has kill Bunny because he was on the good way to make something able to "kill" her.
Did the accident at the Omni-sphere occur on December 24, 1984 at 11:50 pm GMT, or 11:50 am? If it happened at pm, as it states in the spoilers, then it would've been December 25 in Japan when Kaname was born. Was Kaname born in New York?
There's always the hope that even though the world may be reset to "our" world at the end of the series, Sousuke and Kaname will retain their memories and relationship status and we won't feel gipped. (I actually wrote an ending synopsis like that a while ago and sent it to a couple of folks on this thread. )
Omg good question... I never thought about that....
As for the second half of your post... I like that idea lot better... ^^;
Do you think you could send me that synopsis? If you still have it I mean... XD;;

Now it's till the end directly.
1. Obviously, those supplies left for TDD after the attack of Melida was left by Kalinin. But then why he did it?
2. After digging up the exit, Sousuke and Leonard went on separate ways.
3. The 2 girls walked into the center part of TAROS and found a white, fixed female dead body in a container. Tessa explains that she's one of teh female being researched 18 years ago and her body should had been rotted, but teh white-ish wax covering her body was teh "crystal form" when her mental power interferes the material world, and taht she's called the "Whisper" (sort of). All "Whispered" are the listeners, but this "Whisper" is the one who talks to them. And the objective of her coming is the destruction of this body.
(As such, the Testarosa brother and sister's intentions are clear. Tessa wants to destroy this "Whisper" to convert all Whispered into normal human, while Leonard wants to wake up thsi "Whisper" and use some methods to convert this world to the form of without Whispered's existance.)
4. After placing explosives near the Whisper, Tessa suddenly feels something is strange with Chidori------she takes away the trigger, grabs hold of Tessa and walks away from the center, as the crystal form of body breaks up.
5. Sousuke founds Lemon who're waiting outside of the room, and knows that both girls are inside, but he can only shout from outside since teh strong I Wave prevents his entrance without harm. As the 2 girls are moving out, Sousuke immediately runs towards them (guess, a hug or a kiss?) but was stopped by a gunshot near his leg from Chidori's side, who also said that she'll kill Tessa if he comes up. After some moments, Sousuke still chooses to move up but then Tessa was SHOT IN THE HEAD IMMEDIATELY! The shocked Sousuke was also shot, and even though his pilot suit protects him from most shots, he was also BLAM IN THE HEAD!
.......
6. After regaining consciousness, Sousuke founds that it's all illusions, but as he talked with Lemon he said that he also saw that scene! As they talked more, they concluded that it's the sense mentioned earlier to do this trick. And teh possessed Chidori runs away after shooting Sousuke and Tessa as, even it's just illusion, she treated these as reality.
7. Sousuke then brings along the wounded Lemon and unconscious Tessa out of the facility from its backdoor while fighting against the attacking forces. Meanwhile, the possessed Chidori meets with Leonard and told him that both of them are killed, as such they escape via the frontdoor.
8. Kalinin are deploying forces to pursuit the trio in the facility, while hiding forces at the backdoor as well as calling up Mr.Sn (Casper) to help. At the same time, Sousuke contacted with Kurtz and called for his help or they'll be surrounded.
9. A fantastic sniping fight starts (will write in detail once got full translation), and because of the result will be judged in seconds, and Kurtz is longing to help the trio, he showed a weakpoint and was shot! Being judged that no chance to live. (The AS is crawling, but the coming shot goes through the head, so normally speaking he can't live)
10. Casper arrived with the Amalgam forces, longing to capture Tessa alive. At this moment, Sousuke received a call from Kurtz, which seems undead for now, asking him to lure the pilot out of the cockpit. As such, Sousuke starts yet another favourite trick of "Negotiation" and finally lures Casper out of the Eligor. From 1650m away, Kurtz cause a direct hit at his heart before suscumbed into darkness for himself. (IMO, he should had his lower half of body crushed, so he won't live long due to immense blood loss.)
11. Mithril copter waiting nearby finally drops the Laevatein, and after Sousuke boards it and finishes all infantry, Verial emerges and attack. Because the machine's power is outclassed without advanced electronics, Sousuke uses the Fairy's Feather to disable all LDS device within a few hundred metres, banning Verial from flying around by LDS. The 2 clashes in a fierce battle, but the Fairy's Feather overloads and nearly destroyed by the immense heat created, Sousuke is forced to retreat together with other Mithril units, leaving Kurtz/his dead body behind.
12. Because Soviet Army are also arriving at the scene, Amalgam units are also forced to retreat. Meanwhile, Chidori cries for killing Sousuke, Tessa (who're only being killed in the illusion) and Kurtz.
13. Leonard brought Chidori to the place where the biggest, strongest TAROS is being built.
The place is an island, called Melida.
Where once it was Mithril's West Pacific Battlion's base.
NOT ends. Guess, we still have to wait for the release of another novel.
Spoiler for Gatoh's shortened last words after the story:
1. The next novel will be the CLIMAX of the whole series, and the contents are so abundant taht a single volume may not contain them all.
2. Even though the main story ends, there're still chances to write side stories.
OMG THANKYOU HUNTERSEEKER<3<3<3
I hope Gatoh does do a few short stories... I really enjoyed them and I really liked all of Shikidouji's cute artwork to accompany them. XD
As for what he said about the next book being the climax... does that mean he may not even be able to conclude in another book? He may need 2 more? Or did I just misread??
*********
OMG. FMP SIGMA 7 is sooooooo good... XD Sousuke looks so cool in his desert clothes. You don't get to see Sousuke in a t-shirt very often... >>;;
Nami is in it as well, and shes so cute. XD. The personality presented in Ueda's artwork of her is sooo different from what I assumed. Shes one of those girls that guys just kinda think are cute from what I can tell... but its wierd because Sousuke randomly thinks about Kaname throughout the manga... XD Nami is very different from Kaname. XD
Does anyone want me to scan a few pages? Cuz I will. :3
I like the last part about more side stories, which means at least some of the main characters live. Also, seem slike we will have two more novels damnit.
Do you think you could send me that synopsis? If you still have it I mean... XD;;
Sure -- it's a bit dated since I wrote back before even CMMD was published. The original idea was for it to take place in Tokyo Harbor, so I just changed that to Merida Island, lol. And now Kurz is dead and this Sophia is in control of Kaname, so... it's not up to date with Gatoh's plot, but the idea for the ending is still possible. It's written as a pitch, rather than in prose as a fan fiction because I was picturing it in its animated form.
I was going to email it (because it's loooooong), but since so many people are posting their scenarios for how FMP will end here, I'll go ahead stick the whole damn thing in a spoiler tab, haha.
Spoiler for hussar's too long ending synopsis:
Anyways, I’d like to chart out the entire ending idea I had and explain why Sousuke and Kaname would retain their knowledge of the previous timeline (mostly because I have a deep abiding hatred for cliché), if you’d like to read it. Better to email it to you than put it on the board and detract from the board’s stated purpose. Forgive me if I slip between explaining this scenario as an anime and as a written novel – I myself find myself slipping between the two when I think about FMP since coming across the novel translations. This is a quick description of events, with dramatic emotional scenes reduced to a single sentence, so try to imagine as you read each sentence the whole it alludes to. Hope you enjoy, I’d love to hear what you think:
---
The “Final Battle” would be in -Tokyo Harbor- Merida Island with the TDD in dire straits from Amalgam attacks, but still winning the battle. Kaname’s Whispered abilities had fully awoken some time earlier and she was obsessively working on completing a device in one of -the TDD’s hangars- Amalgam’s facilities on the island. Everyone, including Sousuke, had expressed concern with her growing obsession, but she was determined to complete it and was sure that doing so was necessary for ultimate victory. Sousuke, having absolute faith in her, agreed to stand behind her feelings.
The battle progresses and Mithril succeeds in killing all the bad guys, but Leonard is the last one standing in his Belial fighting Sousuke’s ARX-08. During the battle some of the main cast of good guys will have died [I’m not a fan fiction writer, so I haven’t bothered to play around with who; but Mao, Kurz, Clouseau, or Mardukas wouldn’t make it]. The TDD becomes critically damaged and begins to sink; Tessa orders everyone to save themselves, including Kaname. Kaname will not be pulled from finishing her machine, and escapes the Mithril soldiers trying to pull her away and locks herself inside (it will use her as a keystone element). As the sub’s crew evacuates and makes their way to shore, Sousuke is told that Kaname is still aboard and will die if not rescued. He begins to pull himself out of the fight to save her, but she radios him and calmly tells him that she’s almost done. He begs her to allow him to save her, but she pleads with him to have faith in her. Sousuke determines to put all his faith in her and heartrenchingly turns back to holding off Leonard to allow Kaname to finish her work. His fight is not going well, in the end he manages to defeat the Belial and Leonard is killed, but the ARX-08 and Sousuke are mortally wounded and sink into the dark with the TDD and Kaname's machine. Tessa and the surviving crew are watching from the shore, crying over their lost friends and hating the universe for this turn in events. Suddenly, a light as bright as a star bursts out of the water and slowly envelops the whole area. The scene fades to white….
We’re now back in a regular Tokyo apartment observing Sousuke getting ready for school. He leaves his apartment (his old one from when he was Kaname’s bodyguard). He pauses outside and looks up sadly at Kaname’s apartment. He walks to school and arrives at class. We see everyone from the old classroom: Ono-D, Shinji, Kyouko (maybe even Mizuki, maybe she’s in their class now) they welcome Sousuke as he takes his seat and it is apparent that they are all a “group” or “clique” of friends like at any high school. We also see that Tessa is a foreign exchange student at the school and she’s also part of their group. They banter back and forth with Sousuke, as usual, being the butt of their jokes—he’s still socially clueless and somber. (As a fun little joke Tessa even comments to one of them that she can’t believe she used have a crush on Sousuke—it’s obvious that the timeline Sousuke has entered had him as a student there for a while and his relationship with Tessa had followed roughly the same path as it had in Mithril.) As class starts Sousuke mournfully looks over to an empty desk: Kaname’s. School ends and Sousuke says goodbye to some of them and begins the walk home, alone (they comment that he seems so sad recently).
As Sousuke walks home, we’re allowed to peek into his thoughts. He wonders if this world is a dream, one constructed just for him to be happy and have the peaceful life he only barely enjoyed in the other timeline. He stops by an electronics store and watches TV—it is talking about the Iraq war and North Korea’s nuclear detonation (proving that he is now in our world’s timeline). He muses that this isn’t be heaven or a totally war-free world, still confused about the state of affairs. [BTW, it’s being made obvious that he was inserted into the timeline a while ago, say a few months to get his feet on the ground and understand his relationships with everybody.] He still wonders what Kaname wanted for him and what is his purpose is now, no longer a mercenary soldier. On the way home he passes a deranged Leonard in homeless rags ranting to two police officers about giant robot war machines and weapons that utilize thought-waves while they are trying to calm him down and escort him to a hospital. Sousuke watches the scene with a serious look on his face, but doesn’t interfere. Back home we watch him make a meal for himself, alone. He’s still ruminating on no longer being a soldier. He contemplates leaving Tokyo and setting off for one of these new hotspots, but he is truly tired of war and he feels that if Kaname created this reality for him he would dishonor her if he rejected it. We cut to him on a conference phone call [possibly online with video] with Mao and Kurz, who appear to be old friends from sometime in the past who are asking about how he’s doing in school, if he’s found a girlfriend yet, etc. That night he walks over to Kaname’s apartment complex and picks the lock to her door. The apartment is totally bare and unfurnished. He goes to bed with his thoughts explaining to the universe that he is content in his new situation and with his old/new friends and he won’t abandon this state-of-affairs, but he’s not happy—he speaks to the ceiling as if talking to Kaname, he tells her he cannot be genuinely happy without her.
The next morning he prepares for school as usual and arrives at class. As everyone is getting set Ms. Kagurazaka comes in and tells them they have a new transfer student arriving. Sousuke starts to perk up at this. The teacher goes through the emotions and asks the student to step in. We see through frames cut below the shoulders that it is a female student; Sousuke really starts to perk up. We see the legs striding, and the arms swinging, and her taking her place at the front of class, and Sousuke looks very attentive, and...
it’s not Kaname. It’s just some other girl. She takes Kaname’s seat and Sousuke looks down at his desktop, brokenhearted. After school he’s walking home again, and his path takes him past some of the places where he and Kaname spent significant moments. Past the park where the “girl hunt" occurred. Past the train station they always went to and the train they rode together. He passes the salon where he flipped out and pulls on his hair, realizing it’s grown long again. Inhaling, he walks in to get a haircut, now sure that he’s developed enough to not flip out again. He walks up to the same hairdresser he pulled a gun on in the previous timeline, who jumps in fright when he sees Sousuke, but then wonders why he suddenly panicked like that. Sousuke sits down and starts to get his hair cut. The hairdresser, as all hairdressers do, asks Sousuke about his life, about why he seems so dour. He cryptically answers the questions, kind of using the hairdresser as a therapist, having someone to tell his feelings to. Off-screen the hairdresser replies with “ah-so” (“I see”) to most of his responses, sometimes asking a follow-up question.
After a few responses the tone of his voice suddenly becomes different, feminine. Sousuke answers a couple of questions about his long-lost love before realizing someone different is answering him. He looks around and sees Kaname holding the comb and scissors that the hairdresser once was. Off to the side the hairdresser is standing with a happy grin on his face. [It’s obvious that Kaname came in while the haircut was occurring and silently motioned to slip in in his place.] Sousuke looks up flabbergasted.
“What?” Kaname says with a sly grin on her face, “did you think I’d show up as the transfer student? God, Sousuke, that’s so cliché.”
Sousuke blinks twice in disbelief and then suddenly bolts out of the chair, grabs Kaname and kisses her, swinging her around in his arms. She laughs and kisses him back.
They’re now sitting on the bank of the river, with Kaname in Sousuke’s arms, watching the sunset. Kaname is telling Sousuke that she used her device and her Whispered powers to alter some events in the past to create a new timeline, but reinserted the two them as is into because they were both at the origin-point of the device’s activations. As operator and as a Whispered—who could calculate thousands of variables as she operated it—she controlled what was changed and how events were reorganized so that Teletha Testarossa became a transfer student at Jindai, etc. [I’m thinking now that ARX’s Lambda Driver may also be a crucial part to Kaname’s device operating—so that they would’ve had to work together at that last battle and would've been connected when the device activated.] She explains she simply eliminated the creation of Whispereds and moved some things here and there (again, Tessa’s path and Mao’s and Kurz’s so they all remained friends). She says even her Whispered abilities have left her, and she couldn’t be happier to see them go. She says she couldn’t change human nature so that this is still a world with war and violence and suffering, but at least there are now far less super-weapons and all the people important to her had a blank slate to start in this world. Sousuke tells her he doesn’t care about what world could have been created, if only that she was in it and he could be with her. They agree to live the life they’ve wanted since he came to Tokyo and to be happy.
THE END
(until the extra Fumoffu-like follow-up series that HAS to conclude the FMP series if the drama storyline has a happy ending!)
---
When I was originally thinking this ending up, like you I put one of them in the “transfer student” role, being introduced to the other in class. But I’ve seen that so many times I quickly wanted to do something new (and to give the audience a psyche-out by building up a transfer introduction exactly as it’d be done if it was Kaname and then totally bluffing it, LOL). Since the haircut scene they both had back in “End of Day by Day”/”Second Raid” was perhaps their most romantic before their walk together at the beginning of COMO, I thought it would provide a sweet reintroduction (also, I thought it would be funny if Kaname was the one directing her grand entrance after using the machine exactly like I had done!—inside the device she had calculated all the variables that led to that situation).
Spoiler for Gatoh's shortened last words after the story:
1. The next novel will be the CLIMAX of the whole series, and the contents are so abundant taht a single volume may not contain them all.
2. Even though the main story ends, there're still chances to write side stories.
So... is he saying he is doing more then one more book? Atleast I like the whole return too side stories, that will be nice.

Those spoiler sound pretty amazing! I can't wait for that translation to come out I wish I knew Japanese...it's going to be like 5 years before I can even hear the end of this story *cries*
This was updated after I went to bed last night, which is why the final battle spoilers didn't quite match up with my post from then.

Spoiler:
Even with the update, it still seems Kaname doesn't know what happened was a illusion. So it does seem Sophia is the one pulling the strings on that. Still, I'm not seeing anything in these spoilers that says Kaname or Leonard saw the last part of the fight and know it's not a illusion. So if there is something I've missed here I need to have it clarified (either MilesTeg and HunterSeeker are reading different spoilers or MilesTeg may have read the book himself by this point and know something that hasn't reached HunterSeekers spoiler sources (or something else totally)).
As to Kurz being dead - yeah, he most likely should be dead but who really knows? If Gatoh sticks to Kurz being dead then I'm OK with that. I just don't know if betting on Gatoh sticking with Kurz being dead is all that likely. Keep in mind he did a serious number on Sousuke during the Nami arc, which should have really killed him off at that point, but he made it through (with damage but he still made it through). While I was half joking the other day about Gatoh going Robocop with the plot and Kurz I have to say the more I've thought about it the more I have to wonder if I might be on to something there. The influence would be less Gundam SEED (though I do think Gatoh may be a fan of that universe) and more 1980s films - a influence for FMP that he's already said is involved with the writing of this story. Both RoboCop and Appleseed are from the 1980s (early 90s) and I could see Gatoh going with something like that just to mess with readers minds [Really, nothing messes up a love life than to have your partner turned into a cyborg It might be worth watching Mao flipout actually ]

Spoiler:
Ok, so it's most likely two more books and Gatoh is admitting he probably wouldn't wrap this up in a way that ends the story where there can't be more side stuff. I have to say I'm not surprised at this and in some ways I'm glad. While I do want to see the main plot wrapped up, I'm not a big fan of plots that end any chance for futures for most of the main characters. It also makes me think that many of the main "good" characters are not going die but it doesn't rule out Kurz being dead and staying that way (for those who want to see a permanent death in the story).
if the world changes to our world then there would be a big possibilitie of Kurz being alive, and Souske and Kaname could still somehow meet because Souske is japanese (I think) this would be awesome
btw, hunter and all others thank you so much for giving us all these spoilers

Spoiler:
I think Kurtz's case is very different with Sousuke's case. Really, Sousuke was just shot by some poisonous rifle rounds, and he's also nearly dead. But in Kurtz's case, well, from what I read from teh spoilers is that his lower half of body is gone, his ribcage broken so he's probably just has enough consciousness to fire the final shot before falling down. No way can a man live with such serious injury and blood loss before any help arrives from what? Soviets?
As for Sophia=Chidori's part, my theory is that Sophia had control through her body at that time so that Sousuke and Tessa were really being shot at that time, but then she produces an illusion to Chidori herself taht she killed both of them. That may explain why she runs away, but for this part I really need the book to find that out.

Didnt Sousuke and that flee, leaving Kurz behind who well, they couldn't save, maybe Leonard saves him, perhaps as a way of drawing the remaining mithril into a trap or something, who knows. But I think he is dead, he should be dead, losing his lower half and all, blood loss and everything.

After Sophia has said to Leonard that Sousuke and Tessa were dead, Leonard in the Verial had a fight against the ARX-8. I am sure that Leonard know that the only one able to use the LD in the ARX System is Sousuke. I really don't see how Leonard can not realized that Sousuke is alive at this moment.
