Monitor choice
I want a new monitor to replace my current Kingston 17" CRT. I want to stay away from TN panels so I have two nominees for 20" LCD:
Asus PW201(looks good, build in webcam, P-MVA panel) link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236007 Dell 2007WFP, very good quality pic. and S-IPS panel http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...s&sku=320-4688. Which do you think should I buy?? If you have any other sugestion in 500$ price range and you think is better than this two, just say. Thanks |

Take a look at Westinghouse:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=WESTINGHOUSE Zero dead pixels in the 2 panels I bought...ymmv. Chinese company bought the Westinghouse name, but the panels are good stuff. Hard to beat the price and my panels have been rock solid the past year or so. Comes in standard and widescreen models, so you have choices depending on what kind of real estate/viewing size you need. Should check the connectors that come with any monitor that interest you...some may not have the connectors you desire or want/need. |

16ms vs 8ms, I'd be going Asus. You lose a bit of viewing angle because of PMVA panel but it's not enough to make a massive difference. It's a monitor not a bigscreen TV so it's unlikely you'll ever go too far past 90 degrees. For colour reproduction particularly black there isn't a lot to separate them. The response time will make the most difference between the two for gaming and fast action sequences like sports.
Edit AFAIK Westinghouse only uses TN panels exclusively , Asus, Chimei and Samsung on their high end models use IPS, PVA or MVA panels I'm pretty sure are the only ones ie you're not getting these for cheap.

I would definitely recommend this Samsung 20" widescreen monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001095
It also has a rebate and I haven't had a problem with it yet. ;D |

The 2007WFP is 8ms G2G, which isn't too bad I believe. If you could get your hands on another brand with the same panel (LM201W01) then you can maybe save a few bucks. The best possible 20" would have to be the NEC LCD20WGX2 (LM201WE2), but the glossy screen isn't for everyone. Also, it's doesn't seem to be readily available anymore, as well as being relatively expensive.

Honestly for LCDs go either for a good TN or S-IPS, MVA/PVA are sometimes not as good as they seems. TN technology has evolved pretty well during the last few years. My personal advice is, take a look at the screens first before buying it. If you want to order it online, just visit a local shop/store which has it in stock, to have a look.

Yes I plan to play games but from what I heard the ghosting in games is almost non-existent because is 16ms black to white which is not the same with gray to gray. I'm also concerned by backlight bleeding on 2007WFP because I heard it has some problem with that. Please do not suggest TN monitors anymore because I saw two models from LG 20" and Samsung 20" and I didn't like them at all so I don't want TN. |
