Could turn out good.I see something similar to maybe V for Vendetta. Not totally following the comic book, but still turning out to be a good movie.

L-Cap's a damn good actor(Especially his last two roles).Yeah he's Hollywood, but he's one of the few big Hollywood actors that I can tolerate

Does it really matter? While The Grudge and Ringu fit much better in a Japanese cultural context it hardly matters if Akira takes place in Neo-Tokyo or Neo-New York.

So? Every action movie these days uses a lot of CG since it's a cheap and easy fix for all sorts of special effects. It is probably harder to find a scifi movie without lots of CG.

u know since they're going to americanize everything like the settings, they might as well change the movie title to something american. hopefully, they're smart enough not to do that.

Leo wants to play Tetsuo? Well, after watching The Departed, I think he'd be better playing Kaneda... I just hope it's not a repeat of the Anime Movie of Akira because they changed a few things like....

Spoiler for :

But then you know, Leo looks nothing like either characters. I mean, if he was back in his Titanic days that would of worked, but who knows.

5 Urgent Questions About the Live Action 'Akira' Remake

"If you like anime, you've probably heard of Akira. If you like anime and you
haven't heard of Akira, here's the reason why you even know what the word
"anime" means. But even if you don't like anime, you've likely heard somewhere
that Akira is considered both a classic and a milestone in cinematic history.

Now, here are three facts that simply should not be: They're making a live action
version. They're changing the location from Tokyo to New York. And they're
recasting it with all white people. Not just any old white people, either. No, Akira,
that quintessentially Japanese classic, is being recast with the whitest white
people this side of a Mint Julep. Here's the latest casting announcements for the
two leads:"

I wonder if this'll be as eff'd up as the live-action Dragonball movie?

Yes, but at least it was glorious eyecandy, I don't think we can even hope for that in this upcoming film!

Website: Keanu Reeves Passes on Akira, Most of Staff Let Go:

"According to the entertainment news website JoBlo.com, actor Keanu Reeves has passed on
playing the role of Kaneda in Warner Bros.' planned live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's
manga Akira. The Hollywood Reporter trade magazine's Heat Vision blog had reported on May 6
that Warner Bros. was in talks with the actor, although the rival Variety magazine's film editor
Josh Dickey downplayed the report.

The website also reported that soon after Reeves turned down the role, Warner Bros. "shut down
Akira's [previsualization] department and most of the staff that was working on the film was let
go," although the website noted that it was told the two events were not related."

Hollywood's Akira So Bad Even Director Quits

"The shaky production history of Hollywood's much reviled
adaptation of post-Fukushima anime Akira just got even
shakier with the news that its director has quit.

With sources claiming "amicable creative differences" as the
reason for director Albert Hughes quitting the project, his
departure adds to the dubious production history the project
has accrued - after it has already been almost-cancelled,
massively rewritten and refused by Keanu Reeves."
