Bread and circuses are the bomb - life would be so boring if all I had to do was work.
EDIT: I still can't decide - I think it would depend on the anime series. On the one hand, the superbowl is usually not a very interesting game and I'm not much for watching commercials at all (yay TIVO) - even Superbowl ones. On the other hand, I doubt I would skip watching it for most shows - maybe if we were talking about something I loved to death, but even then I could always just watch it afterwards (or during the interminably long half time).

Anime unless Steelers, Panthers, Colts, Patriots, Ravens, Bengals, Browns, Chargers, Seahawks are in the Superbowl... What the heck. I guess I will choose Superbowl, it only comes once in a year and its torrents are always some Gigabytes in size.
I'd also say that this question is somewhat biased. I mean since this question is asked in an anime based forum, anime will undoubtedly win in this poll. Last edited by Morikawa Yuki; 2006-11-19 at 19:22. Reason: Addition |

Why would you make me choose!?!
Well football was big for me before anime so I'd probably say Super Bowl. Especially if my team the Eagles were in the SUper Bowl then there would be no contest and I'd have to pick Super Bowl.

It's much easier to have a big party for the superbowl than Anime series X episode 12. Watching the Super Bowl is more of a social thing anyway, you usually have some pretty large parties (it's one of the few socially acceptable sausagefests, too. ) Watching it alone is really just the same as any other televised football game with better commercials and a halftime show that no one cares about, whereas watching anime alone is usually preferred. |

Lol, superbowl. Being Canadian, I'm more of a hockey fan and really not that much into football. If it was the junior world hockey championship or something like that (or even the NHL playoffs), I'd take that over anime. Also have a passing interest in basketball, and the NBA finals is partly the reason (among other things) why I'm not posting much in the ISML thread anymore.
But football? Anime over superbowl anyday for me. Or even the World Series for that matter, since I'm not that into baseball either. Oddly enough, I did watch the last superbowl, mainly because I wanted to see the Patriots lose the only game that actually mattered. (Who cares if they're undefeated in the regular season when they can't win the championship, amirite? )

I guess it depends on which teams are playing. I'm a pretty casual football fan, and while I like it, its probably one of my least favorite sports to watch. If it came down to, say... the season finale of a good anime and the Super Bowl, I would probably go with the season finale.

I think its all a matter of perspective and what one thinks of as geeky. Un fortunately most people will associate anime with geeks, but they don't find anything in their own actions geeky(namely the painting themselves team colors thing). Really the word geeks reall meaning has been so obscured. As for me I've done that football tradition painting of the body with your team colors. I actually probably enjoy that more than cosplaying(if you want to compare those two). I think of it almost as like putting on war paint and getting ready for a battle. It gets me pumped up for and during the game.
