I just got into watching this series after years of resisting
the idea that this guy would just have this beautiful girl stay with him and eventually be his magical girlfriend. It's sort of a suckers' dream - it doesn't happen in real life. I watched a lot of other stuff and finally got around to watching it. When Belldandy showed up on the screen with her huge blue eyes and that voice I was totally suckered in. Part of it was the voice actress and you have to admit that she's drawn to look as physically appealing as possible and she's impossibly kind and wow, she actually seems to like our hero despite the fact that he's portrayed as a loser with the ladies even though he's really about as normal as you can get, just inexperienced. I shouldn't have resisted. It's a cute story and though there's parts where I want to give Kei a good kick in the pants (women have complained that I was slow to act romantically but Kei gets the #1 all time frozen-in-fear-can't-make-a-move romantic-lead award but you figure Belldandy (or her older sister) would have attacked him out of boredom by now made made him their official boy toy). I watched the 5 part OVA and that had a faster pace and it seemed that he wasn't as fearful to act and then I watched the recent series and I kind of put two and two together. Once they get together for real there's no real point for the series to go on - they either show the threat of her leaving him and going back to the heavens or they have her stay but things don't get too serious. I thought of some possible alternative plot - Belldandy & her sisters leave and Keiichi is left with the confidence to approach a real woman due to his experiences but this show doesn't seem to take that harder tragic edge too much so I don't think we'll see that. But there are all kinds of places they could take the show - can a human and a goddess have a physical relationship? If they do, then what? Skuld won't be "12" forever. And her older sister seems a bit too interested in seeing BellD and Kei get together - is she a voyeur or does she kind of like him too? And why are they all so interested in hanging around with this self-admitted loser guy when they're all stunningly beautiful. Well, that's part of the attraction to the show - you have good hearted Keiichi and the women hanging about. And what about Megumi - what happens with her? She's an interesting character. And the woman who turned Kei down? The rich brunette (I forget her name). And some of what I call "payback episodes" are things that any dumped guy would dream of - walking by the woman who rejected you with this goddess on your arm. But what was funny was how attached BellD got to Keiichi with time. So I look forward to a second series to see what happens. I should probably just check out the first dozen or two issues of the manga. I hear the author is kind of spinning his wheels - it does seem as if his idea is to keep Kei perpetually on the edge of any success with this woman. I suppose it is to allow the audience to identify more with their hero as the audience for the show really is single younger guys. Still, I look forward to what comes next. |

I suppose I should take the time to mention the OVAs for season one
that have appeared concurrent with the conclusion of season two's ending. TBS aired the previously unaired episodes 25 and 26 from the first season DVD on September 21 and 28 - the best guess is that the ending episodes for season two beyond what was aired will be released on DVD at some point as a bonus for the fans buying the season two DVD sets. Anyway, with regards to 25/26: The two episodes are connected and are essentially two halves of the same story and I actually enjoyed these two as much if not more than most of season two. Read on if you want to have synopsis of these: Spoiler:

I first got into this series after visiting my local library, and saw some very well used manga of this series, and wondered what they were on about? But I took the four they had and when I got home I started to read them (all of them in one session!), and found myself laughing, crying, and cursing as I continued to read each one. Though my daughter thought I was losing my mind!!
But when I had finished, I wondered if there were any more to be had to this and after searching the net and asking at my local library, I was shocked that New Zealand was so far behind the rest of the world in regards to this series. And so began my love affair with Belldandy, Urd, and all the rest of the gang, and today I'm not only read the most current of the manga but have collected the first 5 volumes of series one on DVD! New Zealand may be abit behind of the rest of the universe, but thats not going to stop this monkey of having his goddess and wine at the same time. And the movie was one great introduction to the series, but wish there was more to it, thats just my 10 cents rant!! Well take care all and enjoy the new year. Ka Kite whanau Chow |

SECOND SERIES ALREADY!!
Man aren't we so far behind downunder!! Currently I think we are only up to the fifth DVD of series one, why can't we get more up to date with the rest of you lot? But I hope the series is just as entertaining as the first one, I've only collected up to the forth DVD and just saving up for the rest. That's okay I guess it just gives me time to spend on building my Gundams or re-watching the first three and the movie while waiting, at least I've got my daughter to boss around! Its fun being a parent! Last edited by Mr Chow; 2007-01-12 at 19:20. Reason: spelling mistakes! |

Well, AMG certainly doesn't set out to give anyone an adrenaline rush. However, it's supposed to be one of the series you're supposed to relax to and sometimes have that "Awwwwwwww" reaction.

I am kinda glad this anime doesn't take itself too seriously. You can just watch it and enjoy it for it is without worrying about whether any big misfortune will fall on them.
Anyway, I have to catch the OVA, I seem to have missed out on it somewhere. Gonna start the 2nd season soon, I hope it gets somewhere. |

Ep 19 season one? Which was that again?
Both seasons were good but I liked the second one better, what with Hild being there, and the absolutely hilarious ep 24. I'm just wondering how they'll translate that because Korosuki has suki in it, but kill has no love in it.

ok i'm a little confused. the new thin pack box in the stores released by MEDIA BLASTERS/anime works, is the first TV series, the exact same episodes as as the blue box that was released a year or two ago, right?
and now ADV has released season 2 in a red box that looks very similar to the blue box media blaster released the other year, right? or did ADV release a blue box previously and the license was picked up by media blasters recently? There is no 'long lost TV series' between the OVA's of 10 years ago and the TV series of the last two years, right? |

Ah! My Goddess 1st Season was licensed by Media Blasters They release the DVDs as well as a boxset, $105 from DVDPacific (what you call the "blue box"). Ah! My Goddess: Premium Box Set, released Nov 2006. They have just recently released a cheaper slimpack ($37 from DVDPacific). Ah! My Goddess Complete Collection, released Nov 2007 Ah! My Goddess 2nd Season was licensed by ADV Films They maintained the boxset style from the first season so it looks the same (what you call the "red box"). So far the complete boxset of season 2 hasn't been released yet, only the first 4 DVDs have been released after all. The last two DVDs will be released in the next couple of months. A box was made available with the second DVD, and that box is of the same style used by Media Blasters for the 1st Season. Ah! My Goddess Season 2, Vol. 2 with Box There are no "long lost TV series" episodes between the OVA and the new TV series of the last two years. The OVA, the 2 TV series and the Movie are all that have been released in the U.S. In Japan there is the new 2 ep TV special that has just been released. There is also the "Adventures of Mini-Goddess" as well. |
