Uh, I'm afraid this is a stupid question, but how well known are the Jounin within Konoha itself?

While watching the series I got the impression that only few people know who Kakashi really is (his students certainly didn't), and Kurenai, who is a Jounin herself, didn't know who Morino Ibiki was before Asuma explained it to her.

How can that be? I thought everyone had to go through exams to ascend in rank -- and the arena where the Chuunin exam took place seems to seat the whole village including foreign dignitaries. The spectators must at least remember the really good students, or so I thought.

I couldn't actuall answer your first question casue I don't know I could tell you about the nes they've shown us. How many more are there? I don't know.

Kurenai only recently been promoted to Jounin. Ibiki on the other hand has been no doubt out and about doing missions. He is much older then she is so it is not surprising really that she hasn't heard of Konoha's torture master. I doubt he's the topic of diner conversation.

As far as I can tell they only put the Chunin test on public display. After that you wouldn't want to show off all your villages secret jutsu in a Jounin on Jounin battle in public view.

No, but she's a high-ranking part of a secret service- type organization and should at least know who the key players are -- and the person in charge of prisoner interrogation is a very important part of the hierarchy. That's why I was confused.

I agree. Actually, I doubt they like to show any of Konoha's native clan-inherited techniques to the public, even if the children's mastery of them is not as perfect as their parents', but it's probably a trade-off between the need for secrecy and the need to advertise.

Sorry, but I don't remember. A friend sent me the extra a while ago and I lost it when my old hard drive crashed, so I couldn't look it up on the comp.

It wasn't part of a chapter though, it was an extra three-page story, I know that much. And it's not in the first four manga volumes, because I bought those and looked... it must be later.

Maybe someone else can help?

I was looking at the only official (Kishimoto made) picture of Kikashi as an ANBU. (the one where he is surrounded by his dogs) and I noticed they're all wearing the forehead protectors of the leaf. But Gamabunta and the other summons we've seen don't have them. So why do they...are they actually his dogs that he keeps in a kenel somewhere? Is that why he's always late to everything? The questions begin to mount.

His identity will be revealed in episode 81 so you might want to find out for yourself. But if you really can't wait:

According to Kurenai, both he and Itachi are S-rank criminals. He and Itachi have come to Konoha Village to execute an order from their group "Akatsuki," a little organization consisting of nine high-profile criminal ninjas; Orochimaru was formerly in this organization as well.

Sarutobi's Enma summon and Gai's turtle have Konoha forehead protectors as well...so I'm assuming that those summons have allegiance to Konoha only.

We've never seen Byakugan used in the dark, so I don't know for certain if it has a built-in night vision.
The near-360 see-through aspect won't have a problem, but if there's absolutely no light then not even see-through vision can help.

When Naruto is confronted in the hotel by Itachi and Kisume, he gathers the ninetails chakra around him, and is about to perform a jutsu right before Kisume's sword sucks up all of his chakra. The technique is kuchise no jutsu, I believe. My question is, am I just stupid, or have we not heard or seen that technique before? Kuchiyose is the summoning technique, so what's this? The translators said that kuchise=mouth gathering, so, what the heck? Anybody wanna help me out here?

That depends if you have confidence in the official Chinese translation and my Chinese-English translation.

No, no, no, the bubble was attributed to Naruto, it's just that it was translated as Kuchise and not Kuchiyose which is summoning. If it says summoning in what you've read, then it was the translator's mistake.
