Signum looked between her mistress who was squaring off against Nanoha and the duck in Fate’s hand. Bracing herself on two hands she leaned over and looked at the duck. “No, I haven’t. This is Quack? Hewo there. I’m Signum.”

“Quack! Quack Kwack Quack!” Quack loved his name to death. After all, Fate had named him.

Fate translated, “Quack says it’s nice to finally meet the big-boobed girl… Sigu-neechan, what does ‘boob’ mean?”

The eternal blush on Signum’s cheeks from being DevilISH Hayate’s plaything doubled in redness. “It means… umm… I’m the umm… favored one.” Signum finished in a soft voice.

“Favored?” Fate tilted her head to the side curiously. Petting Quack absently, she asked, “What does that mean? Favored by who?”

Signum pointed at the two who were currently fighting.

Well, demonically fighting.

You see, the thing with devils is that they use their devilish ways if they want to get someone to “listen” to them.

Devil Nanoha specializes in the demonic ability of “Take-No-Prisoners Befriending” that comes in the form of her SLB attacks. However, if she cannot get far enough away to properly charge up and launch her long distance attack…

Well, she’s basically just Yuuno with a pitchfork that’s missing a prong.

And that meant Nanoha was, well, about as defenseless against Hayate’s demonic ability as every other girl in existence. The sweet torture that was Hayate’s Come-From-Behind Gropeage attack made Nanoha moan and groan and say bad words that Fate would have repeated if she wasn’t so fixated on getting answers from Signum.

“Ne, ne, Sigu-neechan,” Fate tugged on Signum’s sleeve with her free hand and pouted. “Is Nano-chan ‘favored’ too? Is she a ‘big-boobed girl’ too?”

Signum’s eyes were white saucers as she tried frantically to undo what she had unwittingly unleashed. “No! N-Nanoha-san is um, well, it’s not that she’s not favored, but I’ve been favored longer. See, when Mistress Hayate rubs your… chest… it starts growing more and more every night and then boom! Everyone knows you’re favored by Mistress Hayate. See?” Signum pointed at her own chest. “These lumps are boobs.”

“Oohhhh,” Fate nodded happily, understanding. “So ‘big-boobed’ means you have big lumps on your chest. I see. Quack is so smart, picking up on that.” Fate frowned and looked down at her own flat chest. “But I don’t have any lumps… I wanna be favored too!”

Signum crossed her legs and folded her arms in typical meditation stance. “If Mistress Hayate wins, maybe you can ask her, but Nanoha-san won’t let you be favored by Mistress Hayate.”

“Wha…” Fate pouted. “Why not? Because Nano-chan isn’t favored a lot either? She’s being favored up right now, isn’t she?”

“Uhh…” Signum looked around, searching for a distraction. Seeing Quack, she held out a hand. “Can I pet Quack?”

“Sure! Quack likes to be petted.” Fate forgot all about being favored as she watched Signum tentatively hold out her hand and almost bop Quack on the head as if he were an alarm clock she was afraid of.

Quack honked loudly, scaring Signum.

“Bad Quack! Bad!” Fate bopped Quack on the head purposefully, earning another honk. “Play nice! Sigu-nee, want to try again?”

“O…Okay.” Signum tentatively inched her hand closer and closer until…

Quack bit her.

Without teeth.

It still hurt, like a door closing on Signum’s finger.

Little tears welled up in Signum’s eyes as she stared at her retracted overly huge red finger. “Quack hates me…”

“Ahhh!!! Don’t cry, Sigu-nee! It’s okay, it’s okay! Pain, Pain, Fly Away! Pain, Pain, Fly Away!” Fate waited and then looked up at Signum’s face. “Does it still hurt?”

Signum pouted and nodded tersely.

“Aww… Ooh, I know! Quack, Quack, Fly Away! Quack, Quack-“

Quack, confused but obedient, waddled away from Fate, flapped its itty bitty wings, and flew onto the surface of the river. He began swimming away.

“Ahh!! Quack! Qua- I mean, where are you going?” Fate frowned as she watched Quack become a speck in the distance. “Oh well, I was supposed to say bai-bai to him anyway… Sigu-nee, does it still hurt?”

Signum had resorted to sucking on her poor finger. She took it out of her mouth and looked at it. “Unh. It’s okay now.”

Fate grinned happily and threw her hands up in the air. “Yay! Bonzai! Ooh, you want to see my devilish ability? It’s super duper cool!”

Signum looked at the two devils still finding and nodded at Fate. “Okay. What is it?”

“I call it the Never-Fails-to-Work Band-aid!” Fate giggled and took Signum’s hand, holding the injured finger to her lips and kissing it. “A kiss makes it all better! Right?”

Signum stared in amazement. “It is! It is all better! You’ll be a great devil one day, Teste-“

“Signum! What. Did. I. Tell. YOU!” Signum was suddenly knocked into the water with the weight of her Mistress, just before Devil Nanoha’s eyes turned a deep red and she fired her signature attack. “Starlight… Breaker!”

A few minutes later, the steam cleared to reveal that both Hayate and Signum had been knocked out cold.

“Fate-chan~” Nanoha landed back on the ground and retracted her weapon. Holding out her arms, she picked up Fate who held onto her without question. Gone was the Devil in Devil Nanoha. Cuddling with Fate, she asked, “Mou, you had me worried. Don’t go off on your own like that, okay? It’s dangerous.”

“Yes~ Nano-chan.” Fate stared at Nanoha’s little lumps. “Nano-chan, can I rub your chest when we get home?”

So happy was Nanoha at this that she did not even collect on her side of the bargain as the victor. Walking away until she could take flight, Nanoha asked, “Sure, but why?”

Fate explained, “Sigu-nee told me that after Hayate rubbed her chest it got all big and then everyone knew Hayate favored Sigu-nee so I want to rub your chest so that everyone knows I favor you. Lots and lots.”

Nanoha had stars in her eyes as she cuddled with Fate more. “You’re so cute, Fate-chan! I understand! I’ll rub my affection on you, too! Lots and lots because I love Fate-chan.”

Fate didn’t bother to ask what ‘love’ had to do with it, because she was tired after her day of playing with Signum and Quack. With a little yawn she curled up against Nanoha’s (currently) flat chest and napped. She dreamed a happy dream where she grew up to be a big-boobed girl just like her Sigu-nee.

Upon arriving back at the stronghold, Nanoha again slammed open the doors, and everyone froze. The words that came out of Nanoha’s mouth, however, were anything but expected.

That is to say, it was unexpected.

“Everyone gets the rest of the week off so long as Fate and I aren’t disturbed. Dismissed!”

With a spring to her step, Nanoha returned to her bedchambers and settled Fate down on the bed, waiting for her to awaken for her little nap.

Nanoha was a happy camper, too.

I refered to the fact that the most of the choices for the last decision were given towards the Alicia and Fate choices. That's why I said, "no love for Rein." So, obviously, I didn't mean that none of the characters loved Rein romantically.
Jeez, shouldn't that be easy to figure out?

The valkyrie got near the bookshelf and removed three books, then placed another one that was on the floor. Something clicked behind the door and the bookshelf started to move. Slowly, it revealed a spiral stair that descended to darkness. “Is this the path?” Fate asked to the little female. Zwei nodded energetically.

To the darkness again…

Master doesn’t like darkness?

I don’t hate it, it’s just that I feel weak in there, being a Lumino mage an all.

Don’t worry Master, Zwei will protect you.

“We´ll go in pairs, Caro and the Tome of the Night Sky will go at the front, Erio and I will protect the back, Lady Takamachi and the princess will go in the middle of us. Don’t separate unless it´s necessary. Let´s go,” the valkyrie ordered.

“They are going to try to attack us from the back. For the front they are going to attack us with magic, is a simple yet effective tactic. As Caro is the only one of us that can cast a shielding spell that could protect all of us she is the most capable for that,” Fate replied making the pink haired blush. “Any other question?” No one said anything, “then let´s get going.”

Darkness here we go.

“Shall we go Nanoha?” the princess asked politely to the knight. Sighing, the knight followed Caro and Zwei into the darkness.

As the stairs were wide, the princess and the knight could walk side by side. It was a peaceful walk that asked to be interrupted.

“Can I ask you something Nanoha?” the princess said in a curious voice.

“Sure your majes… Alicia,” she shifted her sentence, thanks again to the glare that the princess gave her.

“Did she really read your mind, that thing?”

“It’s not a thing it’s Zwei,” she replied. She was surprised by the sudden outburst. “And yes she could read my mind. I think is because I am her master.”

“Master? Is it because you created her with your mana?”

“I think so.”

Yes is because Master created me.

“And is this important?” she dangled the book from where Zwei had appeared. Nanoha just realized that she had forgotten about the book.

Is the book important Zwei?

Not anymore Master, it just contained Zwei for a while.

“According to Zwei no… but I guess it would be nice to keep it as a memento."

“…you are cute, you know that?”

“EH?” the knight blushed at the comment of the princess. The princess only giggled at the knight as they walked.

In a single moment, the song of war came to an abrupt end. Shouts and screams were silenced, leaving only the quiet halls with the resounding noise of greaves clanking with every step. The blood of the innocent and the guilty stained the black and red armor of the marching knight, steadfast and purposeful in his steps. The aching creak of ancient ironclad doors echoed through the grand halls, announcing the fallen Knight’s entrance to the sole occupant. Massive and wondrous, the hallowed throne room of the Cradle held a coldness that came with the absence of others. Once this place was warm and bustled with life, but now…

And there, she sat upon her throne. Adorned in brilliant silver armor and azure garments, the Sankt Kaiser was ever the invincible king of Belka. Her holy sword was by her side, sheathed in resplendent gold and blue; she had waited so long for this moment…

“You’ve come at last…” she said, mismatched eyes gazing stoically upon the intruder. Every part of her was schooled emotions – not even her eyes betrayed the feelings she had now. “Have you nothing to say, Traitor Knight?”

Although no words passed from the Knight, save for the soft scraping of metal as he drew his sword. Warped and jagged from corruption, the once flawless blade was a mess of eroded runes with chips and pockets along its edge. Countless souls had fallen to this sword of tragedy, a once holy weapon stained black with sin.

“I see. Then… there is nothing more to concern us with,” the king nodded and rose from her seat, bringing her armament up to bear. In the same deliberate slowness as her foe, she drew the sword with a hiss of metal. Bringing the hilt up to her face, she closed her eyes in silent salute before finally pointing the blade’s tip at the Knight. “Come at me with all your might, Reiniger!”

He roared in maddening defiance, cursed black blade splitting the air as he charged the throne. Gold and silk was split in twain as Tyrfing bit into the marble pedestal underneath. Above soared the Sankt Kaiser, whose own blade sang as sought blood. Yet it was only air that she drew, the black form of her opponent blur as he leapt to the side. Just as quickly, he met her upon her landing, sword flashing.

Dark and light collided furiously, sparks arcing with every great clash of blades and wills.

The Sankt Kaiser was the better swordswoman – that was without doubt. Fluid grace and masterful techniques repelled the Knight’s onslaught and allowed her to counterattack... With the smallest of movements, she would parry an otherwise lethal blow and deflect even the mightiest of blows. Every attack, every thrust and slash, she could see with experienced clarity. Though her opponent was indeed skilled and frighteningly powerful, his fury weakening his guard, and in those openings, the king struck.

Vermilion eyes blazed furiously within that black helm, an immortal glare that never turned away. In contrast to the holy king, Noland fought with a wild ferocity and overwhelming strength that far eclipsed the king’s ability. Deep within that lost mind clouded with insanity, years of battle guided his mad fury. The Sankt Kaiser may have be able to take advantage of his rough and unrefined stance, but she could do little to block his strikes. With every blow, her legs weakened and her arms strained to resist.

Tirelessly, they fought with both reckless abandon and focused might, the entire throne room their battlefield. Tirelessly, they traded blows that would kill a lesser man, and they moved with bloody elegance superhuman. Tirelessly, they danced that endless waltz.

A jagged chain snaked out from the flank, wrapping around the Sankt Kaiser’s offhand wrist and pulling taut. Her left side now open, the Knight slammed an armored foot into her side and kicked her sprawling to the ground. She rolled quickly, however, as red bolts of energy peppered the spot where she just was.

Charging him once more, the young king brought her sword low as if to strike from below. Her opponent responded in kind, dropping his stance to guard.

“Fool!” she mocked, using the Knight’s knee as a step to leap high into the air, returning with her sword slashing downwards. Edge scraped warped steel as it left a gash in Noland’s plate armor, though in moments it was sealed back up. Already he counterattacked, his free arm sweeping low and grasping the king’s ankle and lifting her bodily into the air. Blazing red eyes glared balefully at the upside-down woman.

“Worthless king,” he spat in distorted and warped voice, throwing her to the side like unwanted garbage. The wall she impacted in crumbled inwards from the sheer force of the throw, bits of it falling off as the king bounced off. Staggering to her feet, she raised her sword high, a Belkan spell triangle springing up by her feet.

“Is that your best, Reiniger?!” the Sankt Kaiser roared as her sword glowed brightly. Slashing downwards, a pillar of heavenly light exploded on top of the black knight, scorching white flames searing his flesh.

His reply was another guttural roar, greater in wrath than ever before. The very air around him crackled with mysterious energy as he bounded towards his foe, Tyrfing arcing through the air. The moments theirs blades met, the world around the exploded in a fiery burst of furious power! Scorching winds and magical fire erupted forth in a great tempest around the black knight, a grand destructive Holocaust of rage and madness.

Caught in the epicenter, the holy king of Belka could do nothing but be set ablaze by this manifestation of the Knight’s fury. Never before had her body been hurt so badly, her flesh scorched – did the Armor of the Sankt Kaiser do nothing against this?! She could think no further as a gauntlet fist crashed into her jaw, stars dancing in her eyes and the world around her briefly losing color. The disorientation became worse still as the pommel of Noland’s sword slammed into her shoulders, knocking away her strength to stand. Falling to her knees, the great Belkan king knew in that instant, she had lost.

At last…

The Sankt Kaiser closed her eyes and bowed her head, accepting her defeat. “Please… set me free from these shackles of fate. Take me; cure me; kill me! Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself with out a shell…”

Without another word, the fallen Knight raised his blackened sword over his head, readying to bring the blade through the Saint’s neck. But as mere seconds passed, no finishing stroke came. Hesitation? Indecision? The pause was both tense and agonizingly quiet. Suddenly, holy and tainted swords came forth.

The blades struck each other once again, though now, a great crack formed in the blackened body of Noland’s weapon. With a sound that echoed the screams and cries of the hundreds it had slain, the sword of tragedy, Tyrfing, was shattered. In that moment, the Sankt Kaiser’s holy blade pierced the obsidian and crimson carapace, biting deeply into exhausted flesh. The platina tip of the king’s blade rammed straight through the fallen knight’s chest, stabbing straight out from his back.

From numbed fingers fell the ruined mass of shards and broken metal, a slow, shuddering breath escaping the daemonic helm. As the king withdrew her sword, the knight could no longer stand, dropping to his knees as his strength pooled out of him. His fall was seized, however, as the Sankt Kaiser threw away her weapon and captured him with her arms. Crimson stained her silver armor, yet she paid no mind. Instead, she gently removed the knight’s helmet, almost gasping at her old friend’s true face.

How terrifyingly different he seemed now. Haggard and ghoul-like, Noland looked decades older than his true age, his skin a dead white and his long onyx hair lifeless. His eyes remained clenched shut, however. No longer did he have the will to fight, that lunatic fury stifled into a mere cinder.

“How I wish I could see you, my Lady, without this fiery rage blinding me,” he smiled tiredly, facing her despite his closed eyes.

“Why did you not strike me down? Why did you hesitate?” she whispered to him, her emotions rushing back in that moment. Red and green orbs glistened with barely suppressed sorrow – so difficult it was now, to remain calm.

“What man is there, of any worth or merit, that does not love his king?” Noland wheezed, his voice returned to smooth and dark baritone.

A soft gasp escaped the king’s lips, and her eyes widened in both surprise and shock.

“I was angry… angry because I did not understand. Now I do… and because I understand, nothing else matters now. …I have no regrets.”

“…”

“This is how it should be,” he sighed, a gentle smile crossing over his face. “Dying in the bosom of my king… like a just and loyal knight…”

“Noland…”

“My fall… will be for you…” the Knight sighed again before at last speaking nevermore.

Silently, the king dipped her head so as to press her cheek against his forehead. Now… now she would let herself cry. For the longest time, guilt had crushed her spirit and tore at her will. Her selfishness was responsible for this tragedy, and yet, the very man she had betrayed and cast to the very depths of despair returned not only to free her, but also forgive her.

She was not worthy to have such a faithful Knight…

“You… you were the one to cut me,” The Sankt Kaiser murmured, feeling the world around her fading away. It was getting a little cold, so she pulled the two of them closer together. “So I will bleed forever…”

Here and now, nothing else mattered. Only these two, these wounded souls, existed amidst the ruined marble and shattered stone. While the world burned around them, they slept a wonderful, peaceful sleep.

In their dreams, in hell and in paradise, they would meet again.

Judging from the rest of her equipment, it told me she was prepared for the Zone. Whatever she had read beforehand, she had taken notice of it.

“Saharet, I presume?” I said and approached her.

“Yeah, you assume correctly,” she said and looked me over. “And you are?”

I offered her my hand. “My name is irrelevant, but to make it easier you can call me AX. Stalker, mercenary, guide or whatever you want if you can pay.”

Signum looked between her mistress who was squaring off against Nanoha and the duck in Fate’s hand. Bracing herself on two hands she leaned over and looked at the duck. “No, I haven’t. This is Quack? Hewo there. I’m Signum.”

“Quack! Quack Kwack Quack!” Quack loved his name to death. After all, Fate had named him.

Fate translated, “Quack says it’s nice to finally meet the big-boobed girl… Sigu-neechan, what does ‘boob’ mean?”

The eternal blush on Signum’s cheeks from being DevilISH Hayate’s plaything doubled in redness. “It means… umm… I’m the umm… favored one.” Signum finished in a soft voice.

“Favored?” Fate tilted her head to the side curiously. Petting Quack absently, she asked, “What does that mean? Favored by who?”

Signum pointed at the two who were currently fighting.

Well, demonically fighting.

You see, the thing with devils is that they use their devilish ways if they want to get someone to “listen” to them.

Devil Nanoha specializes in the demonic ability of “Take-No-Prisoners Befriending” that comes in the form of her SLB attacks. However, if she cannot get far enough away to properly charge up and launch her long distance attack…

Well, she’s basically just Yuuno with a pitchfork that’s missing a prong.

And that meant Nanoha was, well, about as defenseless against Hayate’s demonic ability as every other girl in existence. The sweet torture that was Hayate’s Come-From-Behind Gropeage attack made Nanoha moan and groan and say bad words that Fate would have repeated if she wasn’t so fixated on getting answers from Signum.

“Ne, ne, Sigu-neechan,” Fate tugged on Signum’s sleeve with her free hand and pouted. “Is Nano-chan ‘favored’ too? Is she a ‘big-boobed girl’ too?”

Signum’s eyes were white saucers as she tried frantically to undo what she had unwittingly unleashed. “No! N-Nanoha-san is um, well, it’s not that she’s not favored, but I’ve been favored longer. See, when Mistress Hayate rubs your… chest… it starts growing more and more every night and then boom! Everyone knows you’re favored by Mistress Hayate. See?” Signum pointed at her own chest. “These lumps are boobs.”

“Oohhhh,” Fate nodded happily, understanding. “So ‘big-boobed’ means you have big lumps on your chest. I see. Quack is so smart, picking up on that.” Fate frowned and looked down at her own flat chest. “But I don’t have any lumps… I wanna be favored too!”

Signum crossed her legs and folded her arms in typical meditation stance. “If Mistress Hayate wins, maybe you can ask her, but Nanoha-san won’t let you be favored by Mistress Hayate.”

“Wha…” Fate pouted. “Why not? Because Nano-chan isn’t favored a lot either? She’s being favored up right now, isn’t she?”

“Uhh…” Signum looked around, searching for a distraction. Seeing Quack, she held out a hand. “Can I pet Quack?”

“Sure! Quack likes to be petted.” Fate forgot all about being favored as she watched Signum tentatively hold out her hand and almost bop Quack on the head as if he were an alarm clock she was afraid of.

Quack honked loudly, scaring Signum.

“Bad Quack! Bad!” Fate bopped Quack on the head purposefully, earning another honk. “Play nice! Sigu-nee, want to try again?”

“O…Okay.” Signum tentatively inched her hand closer and closer until…

Quack bit her.

Without teeth.

It still hurt, like a door closing on Signum’s finger.

Little tears welled up in Signum’s eyes as she stared at her retracted overly huge red finger. “Quack hates me…”

“Ahhh!!! Don’t cry, Sigu-nee! It’s okay, it’s okay! Pain, Pain, Fly Away! Pain, Pain, Fly Away!” Fate waited and then looked up at Signum’s face. “Does it still hurt?”

Signum pouted and nodded tersely.

“Aww… Ooh, I know! Quack, Quack, Fly Away! Quack, Quack-“

Quack, confused but obedient, waddled away from Fate, flapped its itty bitty wings, and flew onto the surface of the river. He began swimming away.

“Ahh!! Quack! Qua- I mean, where are you going?” Fate frowned as she watched Quack become a speck in the distance. “Oh well, I was supposed to say bai-bai to him anyway… Sigu-nee, does it still hurt?”

Signum had resorted to sucking on her poor finger. She took it out of her mouth and looked at it. “Unh. It’s okay now.”

Fate grinned happily and threw her hands up in the air. “Yay! Bonzai! Ooh, you want to see my devilish ability? It’s super duper cool!”

Signum looked at the two devils still finding and nodded at Fate. “Okay. What is it?”

“I call it the Never-Fails-to-Work Band-aid!” Fate giggled and took Signum’s hand, holding the injured finger to her lips and kissing it. “A kiss makes it all better! Right?”

Signum stared in amazement. “It is! It is all better! You’ll be a great devil one day, Teste-“

“Signum! What. Did. I. Tell. YOU!” Signum was suddenly knocked into the water with the weight of her Mistress, just before Devil Nanoha’s eyes turned a deep red and she fired her signature attack. “Starlight… Breaker!”

A few minutes later, the steam cleared to reveal that both Hayate and Signum had been knocked out cold.

“Fate-chan~” Nanoha landed back on the ground and retracted her weapon. Holding out her arms, she picked up Fate who held onto her without question. Gone was the Devil in Devil Nanoha. Cuddling with Fate, she asked, “Mou, you had me worried. Don’t go off on your own like that, okay? It’s dangerous.”

“Yes~ Nano-chan.” Fate stared at Nanoha’s little lumps. “Nano-chan, can I rub your chest when we get home?”

So happy was Nanoha at this that she did not even collect on her side of the bargain as the victor. Walking away until she could take flight, Nanoha asked, “Sure, but why?”

Fate explained, “Sigu-nee told me that after Hayate rubbed her chest it got all big and then everyone knew Hayate favored Sigu-nee so I want to rub your chest so that everyone knows I favor you. Lots and lots.”

Nanoha had stars in her eyes as she cuddled with Fate more. “You’re so cute, Fate-chan! I understand! I’ll rub my affection on you, too! Lots and lots because I love Fate-chan.”

Fate didn’t bother to ask what ‘love’ had to do with it, because she was tired after her day of playing with Signum and Quack. With a little yawn she curled up against Nanoha’s (currently) flat chest and napped. She dreamed a happy dream where she grew up to be a big-boobed girl just like her Sigu-nee.

Upon arriving back at the stronghold, Nanoha again slammed open the doors, and everyone froze. The words that came out of Nanoha’s mouth, however, were anything but expected.

That is to say, it was unexpected.

“Everyone gets the rest of the week off so long as Fate and I aren’t disturbed. Dismissed!”

With a spring to her step, Nanoha returned to her bedchambers and settled Fate down on the bed, waiting for her to awaken for her little nap.

Nanoha was a happy camper, too.

Slowly, it revealed a spiral stair that descended to darkness. “Is this the path?” Fate asked to the little female. Zwei nodded energetically.

To the darkness again…

Master doesn’t like darkness?

I don’t hate it, it’s just that I feel weak in there, being a Lumino mage an all.

“We´ll go in pairs, Caro and the Tome of the Night Sky will go at the front, Erio and I will protect the back, Lady Takamachi and the princess will go in the middle of us. Don’t separate unless it´s necessary. Let´s go,” the valkyrie ordered.

“Lord Fate, are you sure that placing Caro at the front is right?” Erio asked to the red eyed girl, “She is not strong to protect us.”

“They are going to try to attack us from the back. For the front they are going to attack us with magic, is a simple yet effective tactic. As Caro is the only one of us that can cast a shielding spell that could protect all of us she is the most capable for that,” Fate replied making the pink haired blush. “Any other question?” No one said anything, “then let´s get going.”

“Shall we go Nanoha?” the princess asked politely to the knight. Sighing, the knight followed Caro and Zwei into the darkness.

The voice didn’t respond for several seconds. Fate was beginning to wonder if she had asked a question the voice couldn’t handle.

“They are going to try to attack us from the back. For the front they are going to attack us with magic, is a simple yet effective tactic. As Caro is the only one of us that can cast a shielding spell that could protect all of us she is the most capable for that,” Fate replied making the pink haired blush. “Any other question?” No one said anything, “then let´s get going.”

Darkness here we go.

“Shall we go Nanoha?” the princess asked politely to the knight. Sighing, the knight followed Caro and Zwei into the darkness.

As the stairs were wide, the princess and the knight could walk side by side. It was a peaceful walk that asked to be interrupted.

“Sure your majes… Alicia,” she shifted her sentence, thanks again to the glare that the princess gave her.

“Did she really read your mind, that thing?”

“It’s not a thing it’s Zwei,” she replied. She was surprised by the sudden outburst. “And yes she could read my mind. I think is because I am her master.”

“Master? Is it because you created her with your mana?”

“I think so.”

Yes is because Master created me.

“And is this important?” she dangled the book from where Zwei had appeared. Nanoha just realized that she had forgotten about the book.

Is the book important Zwei?

Not anymore Master, it just contained Zwei for a while.

“According to Zwei no… but I guess it would be nice to keep it as a memento."

“W-What is it?”

Nanoha leaned in close and then stopped, suddenly suspicious. She whirled around, her eyes darting around at every bush, every alley that could be hiding stalkers. No, this would not do at all.

“Come on, let’s go.” Nanoha snatched Fate’s hand and started running, disregarding that Fate was clumsily trying to keep hold of everything they had just bought.

“N-Nanoha! Hold on! Where are we-“

Nanoha didn’t stop running. Couldn’t stop running. Not until she was sure their privacy was secured. She had to go somewhere no one else would go. She had to find somewhere…

“There!” Nanoha declared triumphantly as she stopped at her apartment. She had just finished furnishing it too; this was a good opportunity.

“Mou, don’t…” Fate was still catching her breath as Nanoha unlocked the door. “Don’t… run so… much. I’m not as… fast as you… When you’re hyped on coffee.”

“Nyahaha… just come in, come in, make yourself comfortable.”

“Don’t mind if I do.” Fate sighed as she placed their now cold breakfast on the counter on her way to flopping down on Nanoha’s bed. “God, you tire me out…”

Nanoha giggled as she sat down at the foot of the bed and watched Fate catch her breath.

Fate eventually looked up and saw her looking without saying anything. “What? Why are you smiling?”

Nanoha could feel her breath hitch and then quicken and then slow and quicken again. This was it. No big fat guys or skinny librarians or privacy concerns or anything to get in the way now… “Fate...”

Fate slowly sat up, as if sensing that Nanoha was about to drop some big news. “Oh my god, Nanoha, are you pregnant?”

“What?! No!” The shock and surprise hit her system in such a way that her anxiety was swept away in a single blow. She blurted out, “I wanted to tell you I’m in love with you!”

Only then did it occur to Nanoha that that was not how she had wanted to confess. But the bullet had been bitten, and now it was in Fate’s hands.

“Nanoha… Na…noha…” Fate opened and closed her mouth several times, trying to decide how to respond. “I don’t know what to say…”

“How about ‘I love you, too’? That’s always a good one.” Nanoha’s invisible tail wagged hopefully.

“Ah…” Fate flushed and looked away. “That’s… I mean… it’s not that I don’t… I mean… Nanoha is… Nanoha is very… very…”

“Loveable?” It came out almost as a whimper, the hope dying.

“Ah… Loveable yes…” Nanoha perked up excitedly, before Fate continued, “But… no… well… that is… Actually, I’ve been thinking about you… about us a lot recently…”

“You have?” Nanoha was getting impatient, but it sounded favorable so far, so she wasn’t about to ruin that.

“Yes… that is to say… Nanoha…” Fate took hold of Nanoha’s hands and looked up into her eyes, struggling to get the words out. “I think… no… Nanoha, I’ve always loved you like a best friend and I don’t want to ever lose that.”

Nanoha faltered, her voice shaky as she responded, “Y-you won’t… never. I promise.”

Fate smiled then and finished, “Then, since you already did, maybe it’s okay to admit… Nanoha… I am… I have been… in love with you too. For a really long time.”

Nanoha’s chapped lips cracked and bled from the breadth of her smile. Sucking on her own blood, she closed the distance between them and…

They shared a hug.

Actually, rather than really continuing, it's more like providing the other half of a one-shot ^.^;;

In a single moment, the song of war came to an abrupt end. Shouts and screams were silenced, leaving only the quiet halls with the resounding noise of greaves clanking with every step. The blood of the innocent and the guilty stained the black and red armor of the marching knight, steadfast and purposeful in his steps. The aching creak of ancient ironclad doors echoed through the grand halls, announcing the fallen Knight’s entrance to the sole occupant. Massive and wondrous, the hallowed throne room of the Cradle held a coldness that came with the absence of others. Once this place was warm and bustled with life, but now…

And there, she sat upon her throne. Adorned in brilliant silver armor and azure garments, the Sankt Kaiser was ever the invincible king of Belka. Her holy sword was by her side, sheathed in resplendent gold and blue; she had waited so long for this moment…

“You’ve come at last…” she said, mismatched eyes gazing stoically upon the intruder. Every part of her was schooled emotions – not even her eyes betrayed the feelings she had now. “Have you nothing to say, Traitor Knight?”

Although no words passed from the Knight, save for the soft scraping of metal as he drew his sword. Warped and jagged from corruption, the once flawless blade was a mess of eroded runes with chips and pockets along its edge. Countless souls had fallen to this sword of tragedy, a once holy weapon stained black with sin.

“I see. Then… there is nothing more to concern us with,” the king nodded and rose from her seat, bringing her armament up to bear. In the same deliberate slowness as her foe, she drew the sword with a hiss of metal. Bringing the hilt up to her face, she closed her eyes in silent salute before finally pointing the blade’s tip at the Knight. “Come at me with all your might, Reiniger!”

He roared in maddening defiance, cursed black blade splitting the air as he charged the throne. Gold and silk was split in twain as Tyrfing bit into the marble pedestal underneath. Above soared the Sankt Kaiser, whose own blade sang as sought blood. Yet it was only air that she drew, the black form of her opponent blur as he leapt to the side. Just as quickly, he met her upon her landing, sword flashing.

Dark and light collided furiously, sparks arcing with every great clash of blades and wills.

The Sankt Kaiser was the better swordswoman – that was without doubt. Fluid grace and masterful techniques repelled the Knight’s onslaught and allowed her to counterattack... With the smallest of movements, she would parry an otherwise lethal blow and deflect even the mightiest of blows. Every attack, every thrust and slash, she could see with experienced clarity. Though her opponent was indeed skilled and frighteningly powerful, his fury weakening his guard, and in those openings, the king struck.

Vermilion eyes blazed furiously within that black helm, an immortal glare that never turned away. In contrast to the holy king, Noland fought with a wild ferocity and overwhelming strength that far eclipsed the king’s ability. Deep within that lost mind clouded with insanity, years of battle guided his mad fury. The Sankt Kaiser may have be able to take advantage of his rough and unrefined stance, but she could do little to block his strikes. With every blow, her legs weakened and her arms strained to resist.

Tirelessly, they fought with both reckless abandon and focused might, the entire throne room their battlefield. Tirelessly, they traded blows that would kill a lesser man, and they moved with bloody elegance superhuman. Tirelessly, they danced that endless waltz.

A jagged chain snaked out from the flank, wrapping around the Sankt Kaiser’s offhand wrist and pulling taut. Her left side now open, the Knight slammed an armored foot into her side and kicked her sprawling to the ground. She rolled quickly, however, as red bolts of energy peppered the spot where she just was.

Charging him once more, the young king brought her sword low as if to strike from below. Her opponent responded in kind, dropping his stance to guard.

“Fool!” she mocked, using the Knight’s knee as a step to leap high into the air, returning with her sword slashing downwards. Edge scraped warped steel as it left a gash in Noland’s plate armor, though in moments it was sealed back up. Already he counterattacked, his free arm sweeping low and grasping the king’s ankle and lifting her bodily into the air. Blazing red eyes glared balefully at the upside-down woman.

“Worthless king,” he spat in distorted and warped voice, throwing her to the side like unwanted garbage. The wall she impacted in crumbled inwards from the sheer force of the throw, bits of it falling off as the king bounced off. Staggering to her feet, she raised her sword high, a Belkan spell triangle springing up by her feet.

“Is that your best, Reiniger?!” the Sankt Kaiser roared as her sword glowed brightly. Slashing downwards, a pillar of heavenly light exploded on top of the black knight, scorching white flames searing his flesh.

His reply was another guttural roar, greater in wrath than ever before. The very air around him crackled with mysterious energy as he bounded towards his foe, Tyrfing arcing through the air. The moments theirs blades met, the world around the exploded in a fiery burst of furious power! Scorching winds and magical fire erupted forth in a great tempest around the black knight, a grand destructive Holocaust of rage and madness.

Caught in the epicenter, the holy king of Belka could do nothing but be set ablaze by this manifestation of the Knight’s fury. Never before had her body been hurt so badly, her flesh scorched – did the Armor of the Sankt Kaiser do nothing against this?! She could think no further as a gauntlet fist crashed into her jaw, stars dancing in her eyes and the world around her briefly losing color. The disorientation became worse still as the pommel of Noland’s sword slammed into her shoulders, knocking away her strength to stand. Falling to her knees, the great Belkan king knew in that instant, she had lost.

At last…

The Sankt Kaiser closed her eyes and bowed her head, accepting her defeat. “Please… set me free from these shackles of fate. Take me; cure me; kill me! Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself with out a shell…”

Without another word, the fallen Knight raised his blackened sword over his head, readying to bring the blade through the Saint’s neck. But as mere seconds passed, no finishing stroke came. Hesitation? Indecision? The pause was both tense and agonizingly quiet. Suddenly, holy and tainted swords came forth.

The blades struck each other once again, though now, a great crack formed in the blackened body of Noland’s weapon. With a sound that echoed the screams and cries of the hundreds it had slain, the sword of tragedy, Tyrfing, was shattered. In that moment, the Sankt Kaiser’s holy blade pierced the obsidian and crimson carapace, biting deeply into exhausted flesh. The platina tip of the king’s blade rammed straight through the fallen knight’s chest, stabbing straight out from his back.

From numbed fingers fell the ruined mass of shards and broken metal, a slow, shuddering breath escaping the daemonic helm. As the king withdrew her sword, the knight could no longer stand, dropping to his knees as his strength pooled out of him. His fall was seized, however, as the Sankt Kaiser threw away her weapon and captured him with her arms. Crimson stained her silver armor, yet she paid no mind. Instead, she gently removed the knight’s helmet, almost gasping at her old friend’s true face.

How terrifyingly different he seemed now. Haggard and ghoul-like, Noland looked decades older than his true age, his skin a dead white and his long onyx hair lifeless. His eyes remained clenched shut, however. No longer did he have the will to fight, that lunatic fury stifled into a mere cinder.

“How I wish I could see you, my Lady, without this fiery rage blinding me,” he smiled tiredly, facing her despite his closed eyes.

“Why did you not strike me down? Why did you hesitate?” she whispered to him, her emotions rushing back in that moment. Red and green orbs glistened with barely suppressed sorrow – so difficult it was now, to remain calm.

“What man is there, of any worth or merit, that does not love his king?” Noland wheezed, his voice returned to smooth and dark baritone.

A soft gasp escaped the king’s lips, and her eyes widened in both surprise and shock.

“I was angry… angry because I did not understand. Now I do… and because I understand, nothing else matters now. …I have no regrets.”

“…”

“This is how it should be,” he sighed, a gentle smile crossing over his face. “Dying in the bosom of my king… like a just and loyal knight…”

“Noland…”

“My fall… will be for you…” the Knight sighed again before at last speaking nevermore.

Silently, the king dipped her head so as to press her cheek against his forehead. Now… now she would let herself cry. For the longest time, guilt had crushed her spirit and tore at her will. Her selfishness was responsible for this tragedy, and yet, the very man she had betrayed and cast to the very depths of despair returned not only to free her, but also forgive her.

She was not worthy to have such a faithful Knight…

“You… you were the one to cut me,” The Sankt Kaiser murmured, feeling the world around her fading away. It was getting a little cold, so she pulled the two of them closer together. “So I will bleed forever…”

Here and now, nothing else mattered. Only these two, these wounded souls, existed amidst the ruined marble and shattered stone. While the world burned around them, they slept a wonderful, peaceful sleep.

In their dreams, in hell and in paradise, they would meet again.

So I'm contemplating life (Dun laugh D: ) And this little thingy comes out

“All living things will die if they don't then they weren't alive,” my teacher had always tried to drum this into me, to live is to one day die. “One is never more alive then the moment they die.” She looked old for a moment, a strange thing for her to seem because my master had always taken great care to ensure the appearance masking spell she used never slipped.

“I won't,” I spoke with the cocky arrogance normal of someone my age, though not meant, determined that the rules of the world should not apply to me, that the idea of dying was merely an inconvenience to me a small hurdle to be overcome. “I'm going to live forever and so will you! I'll make sure of it.”

She shook her head with a sad sort of smile and ruffled my hair, something she had done forever but I'd never appreciated, “To live is to die, to die is to live, take away one and the other can't remain.”

I couldn't wrap my head around it so I merely shrugged it off, “Let's get back to spell practice.”

When my master, Fate Testarossa, the only friend and mother I'd ever known, died exactly ten years later, she was smiling. I set my plan in motion that night and I haven't aged a day since.


“If one must die to live then I must be nothing more than a rock,” it wasn't unusual for me to get into such philosophical moods while laying upon my rusty spring bed and watching the lopsided spin of my fan overhead. “And a rock has no feelings so I should just go get what I need.” I was referring to my current financial situation. I had had the unfortunate habit of accidentally blowing my money through gambling, as a result my very very long existence had been split into periods of prosperity and periods of just getting by. It didn't matter much, I found that no matter how long I didn't eat, how long I went without heat and it didn't matter how much blood I lost, my body would simply keep itself going, much to my despair. I had truly become immortal, the only side effect of my careless behavior was a lot of pain there was absolutely no way to kill me, I had gotten myself behead somewhere in the 16th century and then subsequently gotten run out of town when my body put my head right back on.

But back to my financial problems, I'd found through the ages that women didn't like it much when you didn't have money and I found myself quite lonely at the moment, quite needing of a woman's attentions and no way to impress one. I was stuck only with my memories, I'd been married roughly twenty-six times each and every one of the women I'd loved but twenty of them had had their poor “husband” die on them. Six of them, however, had been told my secret but I'd lost each and every one of them. I liked it better now, now a days it was far easier to love and leave someone and people remained just as greedy as ever. It was easier to disappear too. Whenever I lived somewhere too long and people started to get suspicious. I could merely catch a plane, once I'd had to walk, I'd swam across the ocean once to get away from people.

But I'm going off again. The point was that if it weren't the damn moral compass inside me I'd be richer than a king. As it was I couldn't bring myself to rob even a liquor store. I sighed and contemplated sleeping through the day, if I lost my job it didn't matter I could just get another one and if this name got bad then I'd just get another one, it wasn't that hard to change.

“Mr. Mondial! Mr. Mondial!” There was a pounding on my door. “We're having breakfast!”

I rolled off my squeaky bed with a thud as I hit the floor. It must have been very loud because my door was thrown open.

“Mr. Mondial are you alright!” In the doorway stood my long pink haired landlady, Caro Ru Lushe. Her little white dog Fried stood by her side yipping at me like I had somehow caused great stress to his mistress... actually his barking was justified. Ms. Ru Lushe liked to know her boarders, she cooked meals for them sometimes, watched their pet when they were gone and always made sure she was part of their lives, and she was trying to do the same to me. She didn't seem to get through my never answering the door when she knocked that I wanted nothing to do with her. It didn't help that she was very attractive and very kind but she had come into my timeline far to late I hadn't had a real relationship with anyone, since 1904. One night stands and women of the oldest profession served me just fine.

“I'm fine,” I attempted to untwist myself from the moth bitten blanket (the décor by the way, was my own choice, Ms. Ru Lushe had attempted to rent me a stocked room but I'd chosen to bring in my own things).

“Let me help you,” She bent down and meddled with the sheets having no more luck than me.

“I got it,” with another twist I wormed out of my cover.

We both stood up at once, clonking heads heads.
