That's because I was riding the Waves of Rage from everyone, but after watching the episode, it was better than I expected. I actually expected this type of ending from Kawamori.

I'm one of those who think that the traingle has been resolved, just because we didn't exactly see a kissing scene or flying confession or whatever, doesn't automatically mean that Alto didn't make a choice, let's look back at 22, 23 and 24 shall we? Let's not base everything on the open-ended conclusion but on all the development that has happened in the series.

It'll be painful to wait for the movie but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

this remind me of how the latest tenchi muyo OVA ended. all the fans were hoping for Tenchi to finally choose a "TOP" girl and at the end it just stayed a Harem. We now know that Tenchi will end with all the girls like what happened in "galaxy"

Meh, there were still some scenes with Alto and Sheryl that need no explaining. I still believe Alto's made his choice, he's just trying to not upset Ranka incase she wants to rage war against humanity again. -ducks-

At the beginning I watched Macross because of awesome mecha action.

But by episode 6 I was converted. Sheryl had to win. She had to.

Yeah, 22, 23, and 24 pretty much made it clear. I happen to believe that the open-ending was a psuedo-open ending. It just seemed unresolved but it actually was. Ranka was cute when she declared a challenge to Sheryl but she wasn't there to see the Alto/Sheryl development we've seen. So...*shrugs*

Don't forget Alto's salute to Sheryl in space after he dropped Ranka off on the Quarter, and she saluted him back. Then the way she looked at him in the end as he's flying in the sky, and Ranka looks at Sheryl and understands right away. There's a look of understanding on Sheryl's face. An almost intimate understanding.

However... Alto you were suppose to clarify things once everything was finished! Instead you're out there flying in the sky leaving both girls wondering

Interesting theory, Frau Crisis. Not having watched the original in its entirety, I cannot evaluate it properly, but if true, well, that would mean Kawamori is even better at trolling, than we'd give him credit. After all, not all would notice such detail.

Also, why am I seeing "Full Metal Panic" vibes here? That disaster also remains semi-unresolved (at least in anime), while the clues, and some of them pretty obvious, point at the winner?

Yes, we were trolled but it's not "The End". I'm sure by the time the movie is released, Kawamori would have more time for feedback to actually deliver in the movie.
While waiting, I need something else to fill in this emptiness left in my cup. No Sheryl, no love. Ever since Ep. 6, I've been rooting for AxS just to know that somehow I'll get dissapointed in Ep. 25. Imo, Kawamori was the Final Boss hiding behind Grace's mask.
