Also Setsuna kept saying for the entire first season "There is no god" and that after he was practically brainwashed by Ali to the extend of killing his own parents. So I can safely say that his insanity has nothing to do with any kind of religious belief. The whole thing was just a poor traumatized kid finally found a meaning to his life in a giant robot, or rather in what this robot represented.

I'd say this qualifies as pretty 'normal' post traumatic stress disorder resulting "I am Gundam" trauma manifestation. But if you look closer at him at the very end of season one and especially at his appearance and behaviour in this season he acts much more freely. His thoughts were almost normal for a person that drives to change the world. And he wasn't as antisocial as he was at the beginning of season one.

Although I still doubt that he could ever live some sort of normal life. With that kind of psychological baggage - not in a lifetime.

Still, regardless of him opening up in ep 1, fact remains man, the guy's tone and such range in less than 5 levels or so. I'm impressed by the way he talked to Saji during their escape, but I refuse to believe Setsuna will carry the show the way Lelouch carried Geass until Setsuna is allowed his inner YAGAMI RAAAITTTOOO to come out and make smart ass moves. Cause really, at the current moment, his fighting abilities comprise of:

-Experience of S1: AKA NOTHING SPECIAL

-Some retarded amount of obsession with Gundams and CB changing the world that is constantly getting diluted due to him becoming more "normal" and accepting reality.

They barely made a good enough excuse for Graham to lose to Setsuna in S1. There is no way Sunrise will get away with it this time if they make up some giant plot device, just so Setsuna wins. He has to shape up, or he has to go down like Lelouch, cause the kid just plain sucks at real gundam warfare. A main protagonist should have something in the extreme going for him, and the only thing he has is his crazy.

Short question: Why did he kill his parents again?

Short answer:
Ali: "God demands a sacrifice to deem you worthy to join the ranks of holy warriors!!!"

Long answer:
It is standard practice to make child soldiers do something so horrible, it will break their will to return to their former lives. Killing their own parents also serves the purpose of taking away what they could get by escaping. Essentially, by doing that there would be no turning back.

There's bigger monsters than him that do everything that he does and does some of what Al/Hal do and some of what Sergei does looking at Soma if you get what I mean.

Just that those guys usually are too damn weird to pilot a gundam with awesomeness. But WHO KNOWS, we got RIBBONS.

Well, Gundam 00 does have a nice collection of the worst from the worst.

- Ali is a mercenary that uses any means necessary and likes it that way
- Nena was a spoiled brat enjoying killing and destroying
- Her brother (forgot the name) was just a borderline psychopath
- A-Laws are an oppressing organisation that also uses any means.

So there are an awful lot of really bad people around G00 world. Witch by the way makes it that much reminiscence of our own.

I don't need them to end up together, I just want to see them share some moments and the director did say "Marina is his fated person". So Setsuna doesn't end up with Marina he doesn't end up with anyone at all, which is really obvious but they are cute together

Setsuna & Marina are in some sort of Kira/Lacus relationship, they had met a few times and suddenly understood each other. Few meetings were enough for Setsuna to dream of her, and Marina to cry when she received Setsuna's email.
