EDIT: Could this be related to the article in Mystique's post, perhaps? Thanks. I'll be sure to tell them of your good wishes ( along with Mystique's )

One of my online friends met her new husband in-game after a somewhat nasty divorce. They fell in love, and finally met off-line and confirmed that they clicked. They're now happily married. As for the other, it was my online friend's single mother who fell in love with an Australian player in-game. After about a year, she, my friend and her younger sister, flew to Australia to meet him. They confirmed they were a perfect match, and the mother remarried. Last I've heard, they have a new baby girl and my friend is preparing to enter university in Perth. Hmm...maybe there's something about FFXI that gets ronrey couples together? Anyway, congratulations to your friends. Which server are they from? They should conduct a wedding in-game too. That can be arranged in FFXI. |

Ok, now I know. They are on the Kjuta server (the summon spell from FF VII?)
He's still not sure about doing something within the game, though.

Old news really.
You can use the internet to get married but cannot marry 'in' it, it's simply a big fat ass network of networks with no legal grounds to verify it. Usually it'd involve a three (or two) way webcam session, one with the priest or legally registered civil officer and the couple. Simple basic guide 101 style if you ever wanted to attempt to try Quote:

I can understand. There's apparently a very long queue for in-game marriages. Basically, players choose one of several "official" wedding locations, and a GM would solemnise the marriage. So, players have to wait their turn for these locations, and a GM, to be available. And, oh yea, the brides get to wear a wedding dress too: Unfortunately, there's no equivalent wedding suit for the groom. |

I've met alot of friends playing online games (currently playing Rappelz, which is why I'm not here much anymore ). I've yet to meet any potential love interests though, maybe because I always play as a women, some people seem to think me as one (Its because they have better outfits ) even if I tell them I'm male.

Pretty strange that there's nothing for the groom to wear.

Mhm, Mhm. *Nods*
Heres the thing, I've played a lot of Online Games, Rpgs and such. And also used websites to do with "Profiles" such and such. And Yeah like most have said, They could be the opposite of what you thought they would be. Lying about Their age, Pictures and Theirselves, or anything that had you interested. Those are commen things - But Also Never forget that most people meeting on The internet do meet irl. And also older couples do get married after meeting eachother In real life. I don't know if anyone has heard of "Tibia" the online game...But yeah. It happens On there a lot. A lot, meet, and start dating and suddenly proposing but anyone... I'll stop now... >__> *wonders how many have already fell asleep* But apart from that, Congratulations ^^ Take care. |

"Sometimes love isn't enough." Especially through a medium such as the internet where distance, different culture, ages and mentalities come into play, it'll push most couples to the test. Sometimes more than often, it's also a chance of luck and good timing too that gives the winning edge for couples to make a success from internet spawned romances

I'm really vigilant when it comes to internet relation. More than IRL because we don't know who are the people behind the other screen. The only person that i consider like a true friend is someone that i know now for 2years ! I'm also a moderator in a french forum (Hyjoo) and i have confidence in them troo but not as true friends (but i hope we will be one day ! ). So i'm always viligant and never tell someone my true name or give him a photo of myself etc....I'm in newtork and telecomunications and i know how dangerous internet can be

"It's by chance we meet, but by choice what we become."
Couldn't have said it any better myself. Since most of the relationship was built with distance, I presume she's back in Malay (or did she stay in America?) - you guys are back to communicating via RO again now. It's coming up to 1 year when you just started playing the game, let alone met her so i guess it's early days, but nonetheless am wishing you both the best of luck for the future. As with most relationships, it's a lot of hard work and quite a gamble, here's hoping it works out for ya both

I'm very happy for you! It's wonderful to hear these stories from others elsewhere.
I think that the internet is a wonderful communication tool meet people with. It gives you access to a world that you never would be able to experience living on your own, wherever you are. For good or bad, it brings us into contact with others, whom could either be who they are or aren't. But I don't think the internet is any worse than real life. How often are we lied to? How easy is it for us to be deceived even when we're looking that person standing right in front of us? I believe that meeting people is very similar online and offline. If things don't turn out well, such as during the transition from online to offline, I think that's the same as finding out the true personality of someone you've met several times in real life. For me, meeting others online, slowly getting to know them better, perhaps getting romantically involved with someone else, these are things that happen naturally. But, just like real life, learning someone's true self after knowing them online is the true step to having that romantic relationship. |
