Oh... I didn't know this. As much as I love ARIA, I'm a little slow at working my way through the series and haven't checked these topics much. That is such a sad thing to learn about. But, how wonderful that she was able to leave this world with something so beautiful.

I couldn't agree more, Athena's song in that moment was totally enchanting. It gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. Not just her voice, but the whole setup for her... the mood and atmosphere, the stillness the comes across the city, the look of shock on the faces of Alicia and Akira... it's truly a magical moment.

R.I.P. Eri-sama.

If you haven't made it through the NATURAL yet, wait until you here Coccolo.

It's magic.

I've said this God knows how many times already, but I got my Aria playlist perfect back last year when I was always watching it before sleeping, I'd go to sleep just after hearing Coccolo and wake up in the middle of it....I don't know how...but I just did. It was amazing. I love that song so much.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but was browsing Time and found these photos about acqua alta. Click! Interesting to see the truth behind it. I bet they wish it was more like the Neo-Venezian version.

Lol, they don't seem to be as awesome fun as the manga/animu depicts it to be (durr). The one shot of San Marco square is pretty awesome, and they've conveniently corded off the boundaries between the walkways and canals.
This one struck me as particularly interesting:

I'm tempted to shoop the men into Undine.

My younger siblings reaction upon arriving to Venecia last year:

"Screw you (me) for showing us ARIA before hand"

In the sense that reality is often several notches below fiction It is a beautiful place, but don't get your hopes too high.

Indeed, I had the Ai-chan syndrome on Day 1 but go off the touristy trail and you'll find places that actually match the fiction!

That Aqua Alta is nuts! Afterall, the water is totally foul, contaminated and probably contains elements of human excrement flushed out of the mega cruise ships! It's a shame the people there seem to be dragging their feet with bureaucracy and whatnot.

At the end of the day, short-term money talks.

Especially with the modern decline with all the pollution and the rising seas due to global climate shifts.

Not entire Venecia's fault.... well, except for the gas-guzzlers on the sea canals.

We should do something about this! We should raise money! We should make a company! Only for cleaning the waters of Venice!

Yeah. First we'll build the replica of the Aria Company as our "headquarters". Then we take over the city...

Yeah, I bought that issue of BLADE. The thing that had my attention the most was the Illustration book that is to be released at the end of this month.
Pre-ordered like the Fist of the North Star!

Actually, taking over the city and fixing it isn't a bad idea..... but you'll have to stand by til my lottery investments pay off.

I think it will be more practical to wait for the colonization of Mars

The Petrochemical/Industrial port of Marghera.
While its use has declined substantially, it is still highly polluted but creates jobs for local people.

The Cargo basin at Tronchetto.
Another highly polluting area, but being the logistical nightmare that Venice has, it is still needed for bulk cargo. Cruise ships are a source of docking fees and the 1000+ tourists it unloads are valuable income.

Flooding
I'm cautiously optimistic MOSE would work but a way is still needed to raise the city by 2 metres. I wonder how that experiment where water getting pumped back into the aquifers turned out.

Bureaucracy
Don't ask - just read the recent history of Alitalia.

Although I'd think ticket inspectors for the busses/vaporettos (too easy to faredodge) would be a good idea in raising extra revenue harmlessly and it creates jobs. :P

Agreed. While I believe Neo-Venezia won't happen, I won't need to worry about it as I'll be dead!

Step 1- Wait for global warming to flood Venice permanently - in progress.
Step 2- Colonize Mars.
Step 3- Fish Venice out of the waters stone by stone and transport it to Mars.
Step 4- Enjoy!

Then plan B! We should organize a cult with the sole purpose of making Aria real. We became rich - that can't be too hard. Then we pass our legacy to our children. Then, they do the same. And when 300 years pass, we awake from the stasis cells and live in Neo-Venezia what our children and their children have created for us. It's Easy!

There is no profit. At least, not until they discover the rich spice deposits on Mars. Then it'll return to being a desert planet.

The goal is to live in small houses and be carted around on small boats. Not much profit in that.
