Where do these monkeys come from anyways? There was one wrecking havoc in Shibuya station awhile back, which was rather funny to watch or perhaps...somewhat cute. On the contrary, I have to agree with you here that Florida citizens are better off staying indoors. This little monkey seems to be more vicious than the other one..

(In fact, i'd be tempted to show a BBC animal show with a scene like that and post it on the PETA website) xD - Good thing I never come across people like this... >.> Quote:
I think I love PETA for the 'Only in America WTF'ness' we foreigners get when checking your country out for the lastest display of mental instability in your society. I didn't know bout these guys until i saw a whole stream of pissed off posts on Asuki last year, kinda a sad fact to think that this group can exist, let alone have enough exposure to gain media coverage and be taken seriously by idiots. http://www.peta.org/sea_kittens/about.asp Thanks for the good chuckle Vexx

Mostly PETA remains newsworthy because beautiful well-intentioned but clueless models take off their clothes and wear kitty ears+makeup for "protest events".
"Sea Kittens" may be the unintentional new internet joke-meme of the year.... Look, I'm a strong believer in AI, in animal self-awareness - and treating everything humanely to the extent reasonable. We buy free-range critter meat and try to avoid factory farming output. I don't even eat much meat compared to the average person. But we live on the food chain along with all other creatures. Those sea kittens spend most of their conscious moments either trying to eat other sea kitties or avoid being eaten by bigger sea kitties. ... i just *love* the word sea kittens

In general, all animals are smarter than we give them credit for, and if anything, emotions are the animalistic side of humanity (rather than the rational side). But that of course has absolutely nothing to do with whether we eat them or not. It's not like we eat people with brain damage...
As a sort of side note, apparently pretty much everything from insects on up is capable of interpreting abstract symbols into meaning. Like, if you create a maze you can label all right turns as the color blue and all left turns as red and you can train a bee or lizard to run the mazes perfectly, even when completely rearranged (as long as the symbols don't lie). That's kinda cool if you ask me. An interesting note is that for a long time people have always thought reptiles were pretty much untrainable, but that's just because they're cold blooded and don't need to eat much. So food treats have almost no motivational effect. Give them heat lamps though and they're about as trainable as most mammals. So the "lower" animals aren't stupider, they just have different motivations. |

We're sliding off topic a bit I guess.. .buts always been fascinating to me just how FEW neurons it takes for fairly sophisticated behavior to emerge.

I'm waiting for the collector's edition action figure of the Prez, his cabinet, and the Obamacar.
No, not really.... I figure I'll be keeping an eye out for the "stupid things Democrats try to do" now that we've almost tossed the current thugs and crimelords out of office.
