My favorite anime couple is also the most unhealthiest anime couple. Ever.

(Actually, it's really a creepy unhealthy romance.)

But it's still my favorite.

Spoiler for El Hazard - Ending Spoiler:

El Hazard is the love story between Makoto and Ifurita. Ifurita is stuck in the future for 10,000 years. Makoto spends his life trying to build a machine that will let him go rescue her.

He eventually does rescue her, but he has no idea what she is really like. He wastes his youth trying to rescue her, and she wastes 10,000 years waiting for a guy who is totally obsessed with her.

It's kind of creepy that Makoto doesn't really relate to anyone his own age. He really only focuses on some woman who is wayyy too old for him, and she's a robot demon too.

It's romantic, but I wonder what their first night together was like? I bet she was totally frustrated and hurt poor Makoto's weak geek body. Or maybe she was really disappointed. "I waited 10,000 years for this?"

Spoiler for El Hazard - The Full Details:

El Hazard is the story of how Makoto meets Ifurita. When Ifurita first appears, she looks weak, hurt, but she is somehow very much in love with Makoto! In fact, even though Makoto never saw her before in his life, Ifurita insists that they have met before and she loves him and has waited for him for 10,000 years!

Makoto is so shocked!

Suddenly, Ifurita tells him that she will send him 10,000 years into the past. She tells Makoto that he will meet her when she was younger.

So Makoto appears 10,000 years in the past, in a strange new world!

When he gets there, Makoto meets the young Ifurita. She is kind of a villain, and she doesn't recognize Makoto at all.

Eventually, somehow, Makoto affects Ifurita deeply and she sacrifices her life to save him.

Makoto understands that she is not dead. she is just stuck in time, but she will escape 10,000 years later.

So Makoto spends his young life creating a machine that will rescue Ifurita.

10,000 years later, Ifurita is weak, hurt and is alone in the future. An older, wiser, Makoto suddenly appears and rescues her.

They live happily ever after.

My favorite anime couple is Ryo Saeba and Kaori Makimura from City Hunter cuz I think that they trust each other so completely.

And they always try to understand each other, too.

Sadly, Fukuda's wifey (the head scriptwriter) took away their canon title. >__>
So unless a miracle happens (like Athrun and Cagalli magically become NOT stupid or Fukuda's wifey becomes BFF with Shindou Naomi), then they are no longer canon. Still love them though. ♥

My favorite couple of all time is still Tomoe and Kenshin, from the first Rurouni Kenshin OVA. Coming very, very close, are Tenchi and Ryoko, from Tenchi Muyo! - no hate for Ayeka, but Ryoko is my favorite, by a long stretch.

Recently, the only ones that have come even close are Takayuki and Mitsuki from Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, and, more strongly, Sheryl and Alto, from Macross Frontier.

Yeah, two unresolved couples and two very downbeat ones. I'm weird that way.
