I can see the stakes of the deal as being possible, but the question now (if you're right) is why would Kimblee want to be at that level again? Never mind the fact that Archer is practically the devil! (Sorry, I just REALLY dislike him at the moment) While I can't see Kimblee accepting the deal, I can totally see Archer offering something like that. LOL I'm not sure it's so much a threat of war, then rather he's planning on making a threat of war, hence his need for the Elrics. (Ep 33 spoiler)

Now at the end, Edward was being held at gunpoint by the military. I didn't catch if it was because a) they ran away without telling Mustang and co. where they were going or b) because they refuse to go with Armstrong and Archer while Ed was hunting down Alphonse.

Archer is an interesting character in that point that he's...evil. I wonder why it is that Armstrong doesn't see it...

I'm sure the bag contains the fractured remains of the mysterious 'skull' that was originally used to bind Greed into his prison under Lab 5. I'd hazard a geuss that the skull is from Greed's original body. Now this bag is in the possession of Archer, Greed knows he can be defeated by debilitation and imprisonment.

This is somewhat different from the manga, in which Greed was all but indestructable, until a certain person turned up. Not sure if I like the Pimpster this way, he was much more brutal and powerful in the manga, he seems weak and too eager to run away in the anime...

On the Kimblee/Archer theory...

You have to remember the Military is not a 'good' organisation, their actions during the Ishbal Rebellion/Massacre showed that they were prepared to use all necessary means to wipe out their 'enemies'. This approach must have been approved right at the top level. I think the Fuhrer must have known about or gave sanction to the use of proto-philosopher's stone and other extreme measures (such as the assination of Winry's parents).

Kimblee was part of this, so for him being a State Alchemist means being able to do what he does best legally.In Archer he probably sees the same kind of military approach that Basque Gran had. Plus I think Kimblee hates tagging along with a bunch of freaks and low lifes, which is why he turned so easily - especially as he obviously knew Greed's weakness.

More on Archer...

I'm sure Archer doesn't trust Ed/Al, especially after the South HQ assault, he's already mentioned to Armstrong that he doesn't want the Elrics running around causing trouble. Also Archer probably wants Greed captured (under orders from the Fuhrer?) and Ed can only get in the way and complicate things at this stage.

I agree that Archer is a very suspicious character, but he's a certain type of military official like Basque Gran was. I suspect he'll meet a similar end too...

Yes it is a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen Ep.33 (so you may want to spoiler it) and I think it's a theory that has been mentioned before but ...

Spoiler:

...not sure about 'destroy' though, as we have seen the Humonculus cannot 'die' (as they have no souls) but they can be debilitated. Greed was able to be imprisoned by affixing the skull with alchemy.

So this suggests that if a particular item, most likely a bodypart which remains after the HT has been attempted, can be found and contained with an alchemical process the result will render it's former owner powerless.

However I think this is only relevant to Greed...

That's a good point. Now that I've seen 33 again with a wee bit of assistance on the language, I found it interesting that Kimblee and Archer didn't even say a word. (Something I hadn't noticed) I'm sure that Kimblee's getting in exchange will be revealed soon, because he must have a relatively high price, because I doubt he's worried about something silly like the law.

The difference between Archer and Gran is slight. And maybe that's why I can't really stand Archer and the fact that his plans are insane. Maybe we can hope he meets that end before he starts a war and shoves Edward in the middle of it. Greed made a good point. Edward hasn't killed. And he may go all out on the homonculus, but he has no intention of actually killing them. While that's a good character trait, it's can be considered a flaw for the situation he continuously finds himself in.

Now after seeing FMA 33 again, this time with language assitance, here's some thoughts/observations:

- Dante is very cryptic. And with the forshadowing Izumi or Dante may die in the near future.

- I found it interesting that Izumi doesn't seem to trust Dante. I wonder what she knows about the old woman.

-Al learned Greed's name and the fact that he's not paired up with Lust and Envy and co.

-We've seen the regeneration skills so question to consider: How the heck DO you kill a homonculus? And does anyone else think Edward pretty much have little to no chance of doing so? I'd theorize it has to do with their tattoo, however we haven't seen anything about their deaths thusfar.

-Isn't it interesting that both brothers noticed Tucker first upon the group of Greed's henchment?

-Greed certainly does live up to his name. He wants to be a homonculus and possess a soul (if I understand this correctly) and be immortal. I think Greed may have been cooped up too long...

-LOL Al is the perfect clichéd prisoner. "I was with my brother earlier!"

-Izumi's thoughts are very sweet in this episode...despite the impending lecture looming over Al and Ed's heads.

-Ed and Izumi make a good team when working together.

-Greed's true form...I wonder if Ed will connect that back to Trisha's transmutation. She looked like a 'monster' too.

-And finally...Edward being held at gunpoint. Now, call me crazy, but I'm thinking Archer doesn't know Ed that well. And the fact that he's keeping him from going to rescue his brother will definitely but a dent in their little relationship. And I imagine Ed will be hating him like many others. It's too bad Roy's not in charge of Ed anymore, because he wouldn't make such a stupid mistake.

All and all, such a weird episode...

...his skill is the Ultimate Defence, a coating of carbon diamond that makes him pretty much indestructable, though he's not undefeatable as Ed and Izumi clearly proved. Just means he keeps getting up after each round...

Lust has a similar skill with her nails, which are probably made from the same material (not confirmed) as she can slice through stone. I don't think the other have any similar ability to Greed though as we've seen them in action...well all except Pride of course.

Yes but since he was in greed's group it was safe to asume there was more to the sword than just a swing. if it cut or damaged his mark he would still die
However you people seem to think that your assumptions are pure facts...
However when looking in the way things are said (wich up to this point has been verry important in this anime) you can see that greed thinks that the head thing was special... He said after this that he wouldnt be able to fight the others either but more in a sense that he doesnt have the resolve to kill.

What was most suprising in this episode is that he wants the knowledge of affixing souls to gain immortality... Also his relationship with that old hag

Aww, didn't you all feel sorry for Greed-san after he was betrayed by Kimbley? From what I observed of Greed and his henchmen; I personally predict that he may join the 'good-side' later on - maybe perhaps strike a temporary alliance alongside Ed or something.
Archer (& Armstrong) is starting to irritate me the more. I wonder what is really his intentions after striking that deal for Kimbley, and arresting Ed at the end?

I thouth of a theory whille i was watching episode 33,about the thing from the bag, what if it belonged to Pride the strongest one ,cus maybe the only way that the homunculus can realy die is by removing the body parts and storing them as far as posible from each of them, and when taking them to a spot and making a transmutation to link the parts togeter the homunculus would gain the strenght to regenerate
And because it need strong alchemy they need the philosofers stone to be able to complete the transmutation

I think we can assume Kimbley knows Greed's weakness. Greed was overwhelmed with fear when he found out Kimbley betrayed him. If he was really indestructible, he wouldn't be so afraid.

Envy said something to Greed about the skull in episode 31 or 32 and I'm pretty sure it was mentioned elsewhere. Specifics from the Anime are sketchy at best, but Greed was sealed away with this skull that has some kind of power over him. As for killing a Homunculus, it's bound to happen. Ed and Izumi gave it their best shot in 33.
