Pani Poni Dash! OVA
Wow, according to Wikipedia, Pani Poni Dash! originally aired on July 3, 2005. So it's already been almost FOUR years now! Anyway, the R2 DVD boxset was released, and it includes an all new episode. All of the seiyu seem to be back, and SHAFT has filled the OVA with even more paradies updated to circa 2009. My limited Japanese skills left me with many jokes flying over my head, though
I've been unable to find any confirmation that the R1 DVD boxset contains this new OVA, so I'm posting this in the unaired section. Can anyone confirm this? Anyway, the raws were posted on Nicovideo and it's still up, surprisingly. MUCH more fun watching with comments on. Spoiler for OVA Screenshots:

Saw it too. The OP and ED really were nostalgic... Heck, didn't even know the existence until I saw it on a blog...
Lots and lots of references and stuff, like Ranka and Sheryl, Cheetah-man, Yukkuri, Pac-man, and Akikan. Really fun... Too bad it seems to be a DVD episode only exclusive to the DVD box set, so in order to get it, you'd have to buy the whole thing... ... Or... some other way.

PPD has always been one of my favorite Shinbo works, so i had quite the huge smile on my face while watching this. Also, i cheered when Motsu made an actually appearance in this.
Nadesico reference was probably my favorite.

LOL'd at the relatively obscure Akikan reference with Melon being there right alongside Nyanko-sensei (Natsume Yuujinchou) with their faces blocked out.
And extreme LOL at Cheetah-Men reference with that lousy videogame being played in the background. They had a lot of fun with internet memes this time around. |

Wow it feels like it's been forever since I last saw these characters even though it was only 4 years ago, but their all just as fun as I remembered thats for sure. Becky especially was adorable (I want a figure of her in that military outfit...gah so nice... ) and ofcourse ichijo has to slide in at the last moment and steal the show...
The bits shilling the manga reminded me I never did get around to reading it after the anime finished...But somehow I feel like it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable if you removed shinbo's style and the great VA work. Need a second season...*rabble rabble*

Becky's squeals when being praised (or rather Ms. Saito's squeals) were so over-the-top I lost most of my internal organs and my teeth from the sugar overload The director obviously told her to go nuts in exponential increases.
Was great seeing the characters in new situation and I rather liked that some of the secondary characters got a lot of airplay. Some of the art/animation was so severely deformed at times I had a bit of trouble identifying a character from time to time. A bit too much "shinbo-izing" (reflecting his 'progress' in stamping himself on adaptations since the original series aired :P ). Overall, I liked it despite those nits and greatly enjoyed hearing the VA work again.

Wow, I didn't even know this OVA existed until seeing it on the torrent list. This episode was not on the ADV single releases, so I'm 99.9% sure it isn't on the stripped-down Funimation re-release either. Saw the main series about 2 years ago, but only in English, so it'll be interesting to hear a bit more of the Japanese cast in the OVA.
