As episode 11 fades to black and the ending song begins,
I find myself wondering what happens while we do not watch;
my soul has been corrupted by scary yaoi fangirls.

What about a second season? They can be on the safe side and end it at 13 (possibly Midori returning to seiji's hand) then continue with a second season.

Well, if the anime is made to advertise the manga, it works. It is a daily battle to not go look for the manga, even though I know it would spoil the last episodes.

Uh... I thought it was relatively clear that the anime ending and the manga ending are going to be different. I mean, the anime team has already finished production on the final episode of the anime, while the manga will end, at the very earliest, in another month and a half. There's no way one could spoil anything for the other. Also, the anime doesn't introduce multiple characters, and the only love interest made possible for Seiji is Midori. I mean, there isn't even the slightest possibility that Ayase will end up as the girlfriend at the end, and if it did happen it'd feel completely wrong to anyone who hasn't read the manga.

If the anime production team is smart, they'd make a 2nd season. This was a fairly popular series, and there is still tons of material left in the manga. They could easily make a 2nd season, maybe even a 24-26 episodes season. Come on, Kouta is barely introduced and the series is almost over. And there's a myriad of character, plot, and humor that the anime missed. Simply put, I would be quite unsatisfied if the series ended (for good) here, just like what snoopy said. Darkdeath has some very plausible theories, but I rather have episode 13 end in "To be continued...". Midori no Hibi deserves more than just 13 episodes.

Before we get too far with this, could we possibly get confirmation of this rumor? I dont have access to this magazine that supposedly mentioned it, and I am unable to find news of only a 13-episode Midori series anywhere.

If Stephen says it was in NewType then as far as I'm concerned it's graduated from rumor status into truth. The only possibility of it not being correct is if the publication itself was wrong, which is very unlikely.

However, to dispell any rumors I have looked through the television listings... and found that no one is listing for anything beyond this week and I don't feel like looking any harder. You'll know if it's the last episode when they give the preview at the end of episode 12 anyway, there's no need to shit yourself now.

I'll vouch for and elaborate on what stpehen has said.

It is confirmed as much in NewType July 2004 that this is a 13-episode series.

On their TV Episode Guide, page 165, it lists only

11話 「運命の再会」 6/12
Episode 11 - Destiny's Reunion

12話 「突然の別れ」 6/19
Episode 12 - Sudden Seperation

最終話 「二人の日々」 6/26
Finale - Days of Two People

Interestingly, the ep 12 & 13 have no synopsis for them whereas ep 11 had one that was 3 times the usual length. Maybe they want to keep how the anime would end as a surprise?

Oh, merde. I hope Days 12 and 13 are not what I think it is cuz' I think I know how it's gonna end:

Spoiler:

Even though it's the final episode of Midori no Hibi, doesn't mean the anime series is totally over. I bet there's gonna be season 2 of this. Hopefully we get to see the new characters on the next season.

I dont know why you'd be upset by that ending, DarcLion, If episode 12 and 13 ended up that way, I'd be pleased, that ending would be absolutely IDEAL. It would virtually guarantee that the series could easily continue with a season two.

I'm not upset, it's just that I suddenly know the outcome of that ending. I can't explain to you why.

Let's just hope that I'm wrong about my theoretic outcome.

If your wrong about the ending, then more than likely itll mean that the animators tried to make a real "final" ending, with all the loose ends and relationships tied up, etc. I'd rather it end the way you speculated, with an obvious unspoken "to be continued..." to a season 2
