@OP, you should have done a general thread about anime hairstyles. Listing stuff is not the cup of tea of everyone, but I do like to talk about hair xD
You can at least categorize them like that: 1) Short hair 2) Long hair About female characters, I prefer long hair and hairstyles related to it. It's prettier imo. In Code Geass R2, I really liked Cornelia's hairstyle: ![]() ![]() |

Well, there is of course the multitude of hair styles worn by real women.
Basics like: A bob. A ponytail. excetra However there are a few that do show up in anime a lot and stand out: Hime Cut is probably one you've seen a lot, particularly in older anime. Mio of K-On has this hair style. Twin Tails / Pigtails are particularly common for young girls and Tsundere. As Konata points out to Kagami when discussing her hairstyle. Princess Curls are becoming more common in anime. Suzy in Valkyrie Chronicles has this style. More on Anime Hair here |

I actually found an adequate list of hairstyles on Gaia of all places.
anime hairstyle list They are categorized by hair color and in each section are links providing pictures of different characters hairstyles. It's quite an extensive list.

I very much doubt that there is a set list of names of all the different hairstyles used in anime and manga. Popular styles that are much used, such as "Twin-tails", would have names already for obvious reasons, although there are also just simple shoulder-length and spikey styles used too. Of course we also have more extroadinary styles too; for example Akira Kogami's "Twin-drills".
When I sketch girls I tend to draw their face and body first before I decide on what hairstyle would suit them best. Or I will make a new and unique style that I have not seen before, and one that most probably does not exist at all. That is a very fun way of completeing a character sketch: making a unique hair style for them. Deciding and drawing the hair on a character sketch is the most fun thing to do, I personally think. |
