English music and culture is popular in Japan, especially British rock which made a huge impact a few years because of bands such as "Queen" and "The Beatles". Most of their songs have english lyrics in them anyway. It does not surprise me that they use english vocal songs in anime; which is ironically a world-wide cultural status from the Japanese too. A blend of cultures is always good.
I liked "A Rising Tide" which was the ending song to the anime GunXSword. |

I think the only instance I was bothered by an english song in an anime would be in the cowbow bebop movie Knocking on Heavens door. I wasn't bothered by the fact it was in english, it was just SUCH A CRAPPY SONG! The song I'm talking about is the one that Faye puts on the radio before she sees the truck Vincent blew up.

I don't really like when Anime uses anything other than Japanese music. I feel like it's being too Americanized. When I watch Anime I want a real Japanese feeling through and through and I don't get that without Japanese music.

Romeo x Juliet had a tendency to perform "You Raise Me Up" in English covered by Lena Park. Never touched the original, but it was a nice song to listen to and her voice was absolutely gorgeous, and it only makes sense that she'd sing it since she sang the OP song to the same tune.
Wolf's Rain was also interesting and enjoyable to me because all pieces of music they used that were sung were in English. Both the OP "Stray" and the ED "Gravity" were sung in English (and good English at that), and the song "Heaven's Not Enough" was also an English song. So generally, I don't mind English songs in anime if they're well sung and I can understand them. Otherwise, I dislike them.

As long as whoever sings has a certain command of the language he/she/it sings in, it doesn't matter. For example, there's this one vocal piece on the Trinity Blood OST (awesome music). The composition is great, however the vocalists disastrous engrish destroys the song. So, as long as it works, language doesn't matter.

It depends on the context... sticking "western music" in when there's nothing to connect it to the situation or story is just being falsely hip.

It just wouldn't be the same. Non-Japanese songs would turn me off from an anime! What I mean is You know you are watching soemthing Japanese . so why spoil the entire Japanese feeling by bringing in a British or US band's song.

Oh I don't know about that, for example GitS SAC 1&2 worked great with Origa's "Inner Universe" and "Player" as well as "Lithium Flower" by Steve Conte all composed by Kano Yoko. I also believe she did a wonderful peice with "The Real Folk Blues", ending of Cowboy Bebop.

If we're going to talk about the songs from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, I believe Living Inside the Shell fits in with all those. Amazing piece. <_< This topic is already running out of material.
