'Tame' is not exactly the right word here.

The playful, flamboyant yet fragile archtype is rather popular in the yaoi field. Sheryl goes several levels beyond that and more, which is why it's not surprising to see the approval of various yaoi circles. (On that note, there's a bit of history on why fans ran away from shoujo into yaoi, but I won't go much into it here.) Sheryl being a woman and defying those cliches makes it even more endearing in a way.

its not just her personality but her character design itself has a lot to do with it. Its very common for a fanartist to like a character and not draw any fanart of them, because they're design isn't interesting enough. And lets face it gradient hair=every uncommon and interesting to draw. Not only that but Sheryl is the type of character that just looks good in everything, so that also has a lot to do with it, added in with her strong and realistic personality motivates people to draw fanart of her.

Agreed 100%. Sheryl's hair is just plain fun to color.
