Asian dramatic romance movies (not anime)

Where I was lastly looking for Asian horror I am now turning back on a category I really love to to watch, I love Asian movies that are set in Dynasty times with Emperor's etc. specially the tragic romance tales with a mix of martial arts or pure culture, examples I can give you and movies I have already seen would be the following:

- Crouching tiger hidden dragon
- House of flying daggers
- Hero
- The Promise
- Curse of the golden flower
- The banquet
- Red cliff (only seen part 1 of the two movies so far so far but I love the story and architecture/culture it shows)

All above movies (except for Curse of the Golden Flower I believe if I remember correctly) are Chinese, but I wouldn't mind movies from other countries however it must be Asian =) I'm quite curious if Japan has epic movies like these also

Off the top of my head, here are some good Wuxia titles:

A Touch of Zen
Dragon Gate Inn
Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain
Swordsman
Swordsman II
The Bride with White Hair

Not quite what you are looking for, but Kung Fu Hustle is great....

For Japanese films, please check out two trilogies: Samurai Trilogy (the story of Miyamoto Musashi); and the recent loosely connected Samurai Trilogy (The Twilight Samurai, The Hidden Blade, and Love and Honor).

Samurai Saga
Chushingura and 47 Samurai (essentially the same story, only different tellings)
The Sword of Doom
Samurai Rebellion

In the end, only a few of these meet all of your "demands", but they are all pretty good...

New Dragon Gate Inn
The Blade (Tsui Hark)
The Emperor and The Assassin (most like the films you've listed)
Raise The Red Lantern (set in 1920)

Zatoichi's good for both set and choreography
Your usual Akira Kurosawa fare if you're into black and white eg Seven Samurai, Yojimbo

Shinobi (which is basically a live-action movie version of the manga/anime series Basilisk) is a brilliant suggestion that I can offer you right now
