Hmm, ep. 16...disjointed and haphazard. That's my summation of this episode. The storyline seems to go in several different directions, with the cast splitting off to explore their individual stories. There's no unity and focus sadly, and so the overall story suffers because of it. With an ensemble cast, the focus should be on the main player(s), in particular, Dan, with others providing support. Because of the limitation of budget and time, exploring each cast member properly just isn't feasible. And this episode demonstrates the consequence of several surprising on-going character plots occurring relatively at the same time...it feels so contrived and flat, in my opinion. Well, onto episode 17.

Yeah that's one of the biggest wtf moments...he gets put in jail and the others aren't?
hmm....

right.... dropped this series. Despite the glorious art and colors -- the story is simply a mess and fails to compel me to stay interested. Very disappointing...

How is it a mess? I find it very intersting if slightly batshit insane, but not a mess. Its been very straightforward until now, and flowing very nicely. Maybe its just not your cup of tea.
Or maybe I dont get what you mean with "mess"

I'll just point at Cirocco's post as a fair summary:

It was going to be a chancy thing that this series would keep my attention anyway but I did watch it well past the usual 3-6 episode probation check.

"boy's action series" as a subset of shounen usually has to work harder to keep me from staring out the window.

ALL the girls chest grow when they are on swimsuits or underwear or on sexy wear. Sela had pretty big breats in the pictures that Haruka was giving away. Miyuki also had bigger breasts in the 2nd episode when she was running with Dan. It is a common Fanservice practice. that doesn't includes the princess as she is the loli in the series.

Plus the fact that loose clothes tend to hide chest sizes. Sela has more than what you would call a handful in the first place.

Mess is probably too much, but I would say that the series has lost considerable focus from what it was before. It's starting to make more sense why the first director was booted off.

As a Sela fan whose eyes are usually glued on her every scene...Yea she has alot of flux especially this episode. The first half shots of her made her look practically flat chested then suddenly jumps to well endowed when she squeezes herself into that outfit later...Ah well.

As for the episode...I...yea no idea like others said...What the hell are they doing...seriously.

trying to save a sinking ship when more than half of it is already underwater. I wonder when they noticed that the guy was not working well, maybe all the different things he was trying was a way for him to try to please the boss after he was put on notice.

I didn't find Sela in that cat outfit that sexy, it was not very well drawn in my opinion. she was sexier that time she was sleeping with Miyuki in her underwear.

I felt that had always been the case with the plot and story since the near beginning of the series to be honest. It started off pretty interesting with that forward year time skip where Dan managed to somehow found a whole new sport scene, despite being in prison for the majority of that time I really liked that a lot and thought there was a lot of potential for something great, but it just began to slip and would eventually fall flat on it face. Story and plot progression was never the shows strong point i believe, so I've never really come to expect much from it in the first place. Despite that though, the series does have it's moments at times and some redeeming qualities, whether they're able to make up for the flaws in the story or not rather depends on the individual i think.

If weren't for the basketball I probably wouldn't have even taken notice of Basquash! in the first place for that matter. There's pretty much only one reason why i watch Basquash! and that's you guessed it: the basketball The fact that I'm already 2/3 of the way through just helps keep me going i guess lol. Plus there maybe some random, fleeting moments where the show happens to jump up the greatness factor by a few notches that i might miss =P

I don't know, so far I like Basquash. Sure there has been some parts that I haven't liked completely, but the storyline has stayed interesting and hasn't become horrible or too random. I'll probably stick with this series until the very end unless they end up having 6 episodes of them trying to get out of the underground

Aye i think i'm giving up on this series...This last episode (16 was it?) has just blown me away. I thought the series had potential...but come frigging on, what was this last episode? Such a piece of crap. The past few episodes, i feel like i've been forcing myself to finish just for the sake of finishing/hoping that something good will pop out.

I give up...the series has been going downhill for a long long time now, though it DID have its moments at certain points. But overall, it's just been too...unorganized. Bad direction. What a shame.

Oh really? ep 17 (or was it 18) is the breaking point where the new director takes over so there may still be hope for this yet

I dont know what's this sudden backlash in some of you... I always praised the series for being crazy while at the same time coherent and this episode didnt disappoint me. Like the previous one, 16 was obviously a transitionary episode between the first and the second part of the show. 15 was used to introduce the main mistery of the series (the gods descendants on the moon) while 16 was used to introduce the new characters Price and Thousand while at the same time delving a little more into the backstories of the established cast. I'd say, even if you didnt like it, at least see how this will play out before dropping
The same part in gurren lagann (episodes 16-21) really sucked in comparison to what came before and after so I'd say have faith

Maybe I might have sounded a bit too harsh in my previous post.

I figured out a long time ago that plot wasn't going to be the show's strong point, so i stopped expecting anything much out of it in that regards. These recent complaints came as no surprise to me, so it probably didn't deter me as much as the others. Maybe i just gave the show a lot more leeway than others or something, i dunno lol

I still find the show to be rather enjoyable to watch and as long as that remains the case, I'll continue to keep on watching. Simple as that really lol =P

For me, this show was probably the most positive surprise for over a year. It's not that it is stellar, but my expectations where about as low as can be and I hadn't even planned to look into it. And if it hadn't been for the "background porn" I saw in the commercial I wouldn't have changed my decision. Then I stayed for one more episode for more background art, and one more for the OP, and suddenly I was watching it regularly.

To my defense: I hate sports anime by default. And mecha playing basketball, how does this not sound like stuff produced for 10 yo boys. like Zoids or Spider Riders, or Beyblade, or whatever.

I think in the end it was exactly the messy story line that saved the show for me. Though most likely not fully intended, it is a feature, not a bug that preserves the anime's originality. It seems to orbit on a strange attractor around the fixed points harem anime, sports anime, and your-generic-shounen's-way-to-fame-anime while subverting them all. And if it had been captured by any of them I surely would have dropped it by now.

The only thing I hope now is that Basquash is so beyond repair that the new director won't be able to force it into any genre box.

I was really enjoying the show when it was about basketball played in mechs. I thought the music and art were very cool. But after this episode i am not were what the hell happened. I was going WTF the entire time i mean now we have the existence of (SAY IT WITH ME) moon people?. I might have to reconsider if i will finish this out to the end it seems the whole series has become incoherent.

Basqaush seems to have fallen in the very trap that i commented on yesterday. Just like Hollywood it seems great animation/CG and lots action has replaced actually writing and i see anime is headed in that direction such a shame.

Next episode better give me a reason to stay or im afraid im ditching.

... I thought the existence of "moon people" was hinted at way back in episode 8?

... No, seriously. The moment we see these ruins that seem to match shape with the lights of Mooneyes, I begin to think there's other forces at work here.

Also, that people can accept that there are animals that can transform into shades, headwear and hair ornaments but are then surprised about aliens, in a show where the world is supposed to have been created in a massive basketball game?
