Well I think it's because japanese animes have more feeling at the point that can make you angry or even cry, I cried a lot with my first anime: Marmalade Boy. After that I discovered that dramas , sometimes, are based in animes and mangas . I think japanese animes have that feeling, that's why I see them

I'm a fan of any animation in general. I watch anime because a lot of the current Western stuff is pretty unimpressive, and most of the good stuff I've already seen, while in anime, I've yet to see many series that are really popular. Also, I notice that anime seems to choose better character development and story than most stuff here anyway, even if some of it isn't drawn as well as they could be.

I guess multiple reason.
I enjoy how the Japanese tend to take storylines; basically taking a premise and running hog-wild with it. Their characters do tend to be archetypes for the most part but then go into developements that you wouldn't imagine. they seem to let their imagination flow from various places, creating weirder and more wild situations, themes and creations. The art, when done right, is absolutely beautiful. They do not pander their violence content like American fiction, which tends to look away from the fact that we do enjoy violence. I also like that it isn't as easily defined as something such as the comic book industry in America is. In comparison to American Animation, American work just seems unimaginative, sterile and lifeless. Also, there is that extra thing that is extremely important yet vary hard to define: I like it, therefore I watch it. simple as that really. |

Main reason is probably the episode limit, because of it the anime has to show a full story and generally has good enough pacing to keep interest. Normal TV seems to aim at making more episodes until they're cancelled.
I also like the art style as long as it isn't trying to be too realistic though thats just my preference.

What really keeps me watching anime over the long term is that it is one of the few visual medias that can tell a story of a defined length and conclude it. I've found that in general anime series tends to have stories with an ending in mind. It makes the storytelling journey all the more thought out and cuts down on the episodic stuff we tend to see state-side. Another benefit is that anime doesn't suffer Hollywood's problem of taking a popular tv series and extending it indefinitly until it dies a quite death after the 8th, 9th, or 10th season.

I like everyone's reasons, and I share quite a few.
I watch anime because it's a way to escape the real world. When I get home from school and I'm just ready to unwind, watching an episode of an anime (especially a slice-of-life) makes me feel good. I also enjoy the Japanese culture, where it seems people actually have respect for each other. I think everything is also drawn in a lighter sense, if that makes sense. Anime seems to just be made to be watched, enjoyed, and related to. Overall I just plain enjoy it! There's not much to watch on American TV, and what I do want to watch is a series that I can never keep up. The thing with anime is, it's available free online, whenever I want it. I don't have to tune in each week at an impossible time for me to watch my favorite show; instead, I just head on over to my video site I frequent and look up the latest episode |
