Pretty cool episode, I liked the Opening and ending, both the animation and the music, It'll take abit but I think they will grow on me. Hmm, shouldn't the cold effect Al's armor the way it did Ed's Automail? Yay seems like We'll get more Izumi soon. I think she's my favorite supporting character for this series.

What do you mean? What was happening to Ed's automail was that it is mostly steel and because it conducts heat well, it would have given Ed frostbite. Al doesn't have to worry about that because he doesn't have a body.
How? Ed's not stupid enough to have them fall out of his pocket.
I don't know. It was the first thing I thought of when the guy mentioned her earrings. I hope it doesn't become a give away, it would be better if they remained as a sentimental and symbolic thing between Ed & Winry.

I did like the end with the chess-like pieces. At first I thought it was family, then Izumi was added, then I thought it was those close to the brothers but then I realized that all of them opened the gate. So now the fifth will have to be someone similar. I think it'll have to do with Roy & Hawkeye myself, but if I think about those two it spells bad stuff for Hawkeye no matter what, and I don't want that.
The real question is how much time has passed from the start of the manga.
I think about 1.5 years or so pass from the start of the manga (the stuff in Lior) to where it currently is at in the manga, and maybe a year has passed from lior to where Brotherhood is currently at.
It's kind of hard to discern the time passage, I know

of course, even if Winry has spent only 2 or 3 months studying automail in Rush Valley at Garfiel's, it would be long enough for her to "sprout" fully :P

When Ed and Mustang run into each other in central during... episode 17 I think it was, and Ed is asking "Why are you here in central, Colonel?" Mustang responds with "I was transfered to central at the beginning of the summer, Hagaren no" (:P) indicating that it's been a while since mustang was transfered (he arrives in central in episode 14 IIRC).
Also, I think I recall Ed and Al being told that Hughes murder had occurred "about a month ago" when they first learn of his death. Basically, after the lab 5 incident, Ed spends, I dunno, maybe a few weeks in the hospital? Then a few months pass from when Ed leaves the hospital to when he and Al returns to Central, spending a few weeks there catching up and mostly coping with Hughes' death. Cue Maria Ross being arrested and saved, and the fight with Lust. We can also assume that due to the pretty extensive injuries that Mustang had, another month or two passed from that point to the gluttony capture. Tons of stuff happens over the next day, ranging from Ling becoming Greed to Mustang learning that all of central high command is corrupt to Ed escaping from Gluttony's stomach.
So, maybe 6-7 months pass from the Lab 5 incident to the little talk Ed, Al, and Mustang have with Bradley in his office. Maybe a month or two pass between this point and Ed and Al running into Falman at Briggs (Remember, they spent quite a bit of time looking for Mei in Central before Mustang tells them, through Alex, that she headed North, and Falman seemed to be accustomed to Briggs by the time Ed and Al arrived, even though he received transfer orders while Mustang was talking with Bradley and didn't leave until a few days later, well after the confrontation underground with Father, Envy, Gluttony, and Greedling.)
Add another few weeks for everything that has occured since then (immobilizing Sloth, Kimblee being hospitalized and healed, Raven visiting Briggs, Kimblee having Winry brought to Briggs, underground tunnel stuff, the hunt for scar, central taking over command of Briggs, etc...), and assume a few months are spent by Ed and Al between dealing with the Lior incident, the cut Youswell and train incidents, and studying biological alchemy at Tucker's place, and you're at about a year's worth of time passed from Lior to where Brotherhood is currently at.
Part of the reason why it may be confusing is certain scenes even within the same episode may not necessarily be occuring at the same time. For instance, we see Mustang arrive at central at the same time as Bradley stumbles upon Devil's Nest, but it's perfectly possible that Bradley was conducting a month-long inspection of the southern region, and, although Ed and Al were in Devil's Nest during episode 14, the scene with Mustang completing his transfer to Central occurred when Ed and Al were on the train to Rush Valley :P
Good grief, after a two-weeks hiatus I finally returned back to this show.
Overall, this episode marks the conclusion to the Briggs arc. The episode itself was a standard, dialogue chapter but yielded surprising results.

I was particularly feeling very proud and praiseworthy about Winry, because she took her hostage situation not lightly. She knew she was in danger and chose for herself to arrange the whole act so as to get free from Kimblees' clutches.
Winry adamantly refused to remain and act the damsel-in-distress role while everybody else would go outside to afford their own sacrifices to their predicament.
Although Winry cannot forgive Scar, her disposition and love for her parents enlightened her to endure the worst and break her hatred. This interactions that were shown to Scar helped him to realize his elders' words. Hence, I assume that Scar acquired enlightenment about his own hatred and suffering he caused and might start to take a positive direction to help for a common good.
At this stage, the Elrics and Mustangs must need to acquire as many powerful allies in their side so as to oppose Father, and Scar will prove a valuable comrade for future events.
Winry, I don't doubt will provide in some way, as seen that she's also featured in the ED sequence with a serious face and a decisive attitude.
The chimeras took a little convincing to change sides, and this was thanks to Al because he was the only one who could relate and empathize to their condition. He set them the example and ignited within them a flame of hope to get their bodies back, but to accomplish that the research documents must be researched and translated and for that to happen Al must warn them to deviate the course to anyplace except the fort.
The last point to mention is the fact that Al experienced a brief transcension to the Gate where he caught a glimpse of his body. I guess this was done in reference to the latest installments that are happening in the manga, but this is a clear sign that his soul is starting to get rejected by its current vessel.
