Super Mario Galaxy 2

So the first ever sequal to another 3D Mario platformer is just on the horizon, and I must say I am rather anxious to get back to platforming.~ New Super Mario Bros. Wii was fun, but this game looks like it'll be even better.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be out in North America on May 23rd, Japan on May 27th and Europe on June 11th.

For those of you who are itching to get your Mario fix before then, Nintendo is releasing a new video PV every 2 days until the game's NA release:

So what are your expectations for this sequel? Considering it's been revealed to be less plot-focused, this means more effort was put into world design and puzzles which means a spike in difficulty. Some of SMG1's missions were hard enough already (don't get me started on Luigi's Purple Coins) so I anxiously dread to see just how much "harder" this game will actually be. =p

Collecting all the Comet Medals will add some challenge and replay value that the first game didn't have. It wasn't easy to get all those Star Coins in NSMBWii.

Also playable Luigi again, woot!

This time by default? Or unlockable again?

Haven't been keeping track of this even though I'm looking forward to it.

Not sure, only thing revealed is that he is playable again in Transmission 8 of the PV's.

I'm guessing that maybe on Mario's journey he'll only be playable on certain power star missions, and once the game is cleared you can switch between the two bros.

Honestly I really don't want to do a WHOLE 2ND PLAYTHROUGH with Luigi like the first game. Just having the option to play him is good enough.

Another thing about this game: If you pre-order it off of Amazon, you get 20 dollars off your next video game purchase on Amazon!

Definitely want this, loved Super Mario Galaxy, and well I was always a major Mario geek.

According to this IGN article,

http://wii.ign.com/articles/108/1088425p1.html

Luigi is playable after World 1, you can swap Mario out for him if you wish. He also plays like he did in Super Mario Galaxy.

Seeing as though i've had a Wii since Christmas, i think it's about time i went out and bought the first game before i jump straight into the second. Saying that, i love what i'm seeing of it so far.

impressive reviews all around (then again which main series mario games don't get good scores). Personally none of the previous perfect score games on IGN deserve that score though so while i expect it to be good I'll keep my expectations realistic.

tempted to get it but mainly because amazon and all other companies have 20 dollar credits for it so it technically is only 30.

The soundtrack is up for the game on youtube now. Don't know how long it will last so I'd suggest listening to what interests you now.

Ah I expected nothing less of great orchastral work. The first game's soundtrack was amazing and this game does a just as good job as it's successor.

Personal favs:

Sky Station Galaxy 1 (Main theme, what can I say?)
World Map 4 (Gusty Garden arrangement with violin is lurve.~)
Puzzle Plank Galaxy (When that fiddle kicks in I can't help but wanna dance. xD)
Haunty Halls Galaxy (Arrangement of Super Mario World ghost house theme.)
Throwback Galaxy (Arrangement of Super Mario 64 Bob-omb Battlefield.)
Final Bowser Battle (Choir MAKES this song.)
Credits (Loved the first game's credits song. This one is no exception.~)

The scores are really high, but I already knew the game would be great.

Grr, it's at times like this I wish I had a Wii. Why can't Nintendo and Sony form a partnership and start releasing all the Nintendo-made games for the PS3 as well?

Funny story, the original Playstation design was made between Nintendo and Sony, but the president of Nintendo at the time decided to back out of the deal, I'm not sure why though... well anyway, Sony kept the design and decided to go forth with the playstation and thus gave birth to a new rival.

The Nintendo Playstation deal would've put Sony in control of Nintendo's properties.

So who else here picked up the game today?

Been playing it since I got off work. Just as I'm posting now I've beaten World 1 with 11 Power Stars so far.

They weren't kidding when they said the difficulty was cranked up a notch. Even the first stage is kinda tricky. o_o

It might just be me though, but 1-UP's are waaaaay to easy to get too. Even in the first game. (*already has 41 lives* xD; )

And after they backed out, Nintendo joined forces with Philips, and the rest is history...

Anyway, I picked up the game this afternoon, up to 24 stars thus far. Great game, as per usual with Mario.
