I work^^. And I sold a lot of anime dvds in the last months. I really like Bakemonogatari and the extras are quite good, so I want to supprt the creators. Furthermore, no international release was announced so far, so at the moment the Japanese versiosn are the only legal way to enjoy the episodes (I watched them as fansubs before of course).

Wow, that's a really good price (for Japan's silly overpriced DVDs and movies, hur hur). I've seen the latest Blu-Ray of Panty Witches 2 going for 9000 yen, with only two episodes (I cried at that, especially considering Amazon US has a bargain Panty Witches pack with 12 episodes for $25. ). Why are JPN DVDs so overpriced, with only two eps a pop?

Is that just a rhetorical question, or do you want a real answer?
In summary, anime is more expensive to produce than most people seem to think. Much more expensive than a typical live action show. And the market just isn't all that big. I.e. you can also look at it a different way: why are American (and other Western) DVDs so ridiculously under-priced?
