Hello.

Today I am asking for help in finding a series or film with a character who is... well, insane. Not just a little eccentric, I mean full on, brain gone, babbling, insect eater.

I can't seem to think of any examples because my memory is sieve-esque.

I have no specific genre/gender in mind. It doesn't necessarily have to be the main character (I imagine it might be quite difficult to establish a plot whilst the main character is concerned about the shifty looking satsumas singing sea shanties)

Well he's not full-on insane but he's close to it. I recommend Tatami Galaxy. Just watch the first few minutes and you'll see what I mean.

I think Guu from Jungle wa itsumo Hare nochi Guu is pretty darn nuts. Haruko from FLCL, too.

Dead Leaves - Doesn't get any more batshit then this film...For starters the main character's head is an effin TV set... Beat that!

Tokyo Tribe 2 - The main gankster boss is absolutely one of the sickest piece of $hit sonvab!tches I've ever seen...There's also a cyborg mofo who is totally gone in the brain...Lots of violence in this one, but with an edgy hip-hop style not common in most anime...

Might be able to give better suggestions if I know whether you prefer insane-killer-crazy, insane-funny-crazy, or insane-normal-crazy...

Lovely stuff people.

The Tatami Galaxy seems to be a rather unique series in style and content.

Ha ha, I like this Ladd Russo fella. He appears happy-go-krayzee.

This Haruko from FLCL does nonsensical gibbering very well.

Arakawa Under the Bridge looks like I'd want to back-to-back it.

Retro is a tampered bag full o' cats. I like his erractic "decisions".

I think I found a clip with the guy in Tokyo Tribe 2 you were on about. He scares the piss out of me.

I'll second this.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a good show to check out as well. It doesn't fully match what you're looking for, though does feature what you'd enjoy going by what it is you asked for.

Paranoia Agent. The level of insanity here just keeps growing. And there's one old dude who, if I remember right, is always drawing scribbles and meaningless stuff and babbling nonsense which, when you look back on it, isn't quite as random and meaningless as it would first seem. Even without watching the show, just watch the OPENING. Absolutely crazy.

I would say Gates from Fullmetal Panic! The Second Raid fits the description quite well. He definitely has a few loose screws.
