Lee and Gai Issue

Gai-sensei thought Lee about the promeise thing (You know the one that if you loose at something, you need to do like 1000 push-ups or something like it). But in a past episode Gai sensei saw Lee punching the trunk and he kept thinking to himself "If I can't do this, Ill have to do 1000 push-ups."

So how does this work if Gai sensei thought him that?

If I remember correctly the scene where rock lee is training is after the part when gai told rock lee about his training strategy. Maybe you should try the Q&A thread you may get a better answer

Yup. Gai told him about it earlier.

Anyway; it's a really good way to work out, by punishing youself with more work out on another part of your body if you can't do what you set out to do.
Try it

??????????? How does it work?? His goal is 500 fist punch. He does 497. He must do 100 push-ups cause he missed it or something like that.

Whats the question? Oh, never mind and do as xavier8200 said and try to reformulate your question in the Q&A thread.

Lee was already a Genin when Gai was watching him train that time. It's safe to assume that it took place after Gai told him about the rule.

I've actually wondered about this myself. Lee was not a genin when he was training by himself that one time, and he did not know Gai that well. By the time Gai taught Lee his er.. unique way of thinking, Lee had already cut his hair, so he was older than he was when we saw him before training on the log by himself. So somehow, Lee was already using Gai's rule system before Gai told it to him. How do we explain this?

Um.. maybe Gai or Lee has the ability to travel through time? Or Lee has amnesia and has to constantly be reminded of the rule system. >__<

I think Gai explains the rule right after they have their genin group and jounin meeting, and Lee happened to be training at the log after that since he knew about the promise stuff.

Lee and Gai meet way before Lee becomes a Genin.. this gets somewhat screwed up in that episode. However Gai says it himself during the preliminary matches of the chuunin exam, Lee had very little talent when he met Gai, it was through Gai's tutelage and his own relentless enthusiasm that Lee became what he is.

This is off-topic, but...your sig should say:

NO APOSTROPHE!

To quote Strong Bad:

"When you wanna be posessive, it's just 'its', when it's supposed to be a contraction, it's 'it apostrophe s', scalawag."
