can anyone here recommend Anime Movies and OVA's similar to

Sword of the Stranger
Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust
Appleseed

looking for new ones with great visuals and animations

Summer Wars has remarkable visuals and animations, but it's nothing like the other movies you list.

You might like Bakeneko and its successor Mononoke. All the stories are 2-4 episodes long so it's like a set of OVAs. Black Lagoon has the same structure; lots of gunfire in that one.

Unlike most of Miyazaki's more recent work, Mononoke Hime has quite a bit of bloodshed and drama, and beautiful visuals as you'd expect.

Strait Jacket! Awesome gory sci-fi/fantasy action condensed into 6 half-hour episodes. It's pretty cool stuff if you ignore the lack of story.... I enjoyed it.
