Not a lot to say. Very informative. Bias press is bias.

It seems to me also that the prophet is whatever woman Aoi used to be with. And I loled when she asked how to unlock the door...

Lol. The Englishman gets a voice that sounds like an American action hero...

Awesome episode nonetheless. Yukina and Aoi are great characters. Go Aoi go!

Is it just me or is it that pretty much everyone on this show is pure badass?

I see the chinese girl is as awesome as ever. I'm surprised she managed to remain cheery despite having her home burnt to the ground by war. It's obvious who she'll reincarnate into:

Aoi is totally ninja. Ah, the air vent technique. How I missed you.

This episode was full of emotion. The scene between Kazura and Aoi was totally intense. Same for Yukina and her brother. And the scene between Aoi and Shizune was so sad. This is really turning out to be an awesome anime.

WHY KAZURA WHY?!?!?!

I would've liked some introspection from Kazura to explain what he was thinking at the time, though. The betrayal still felt a little forced. Otherwise it was another awesome episode.

The ending was quite disappointing as expected. As I had feared, the ESP powers were left completely unexplained and remained little more than a plot device. I'm not sure what they were trying to do exactly...

Was this aired, or was it DVD-only? All I know is it showed up online with subs yesterday. I've dubbed it, "Yukina's Purple Haze."

Okay, what was that about?

I get the basics - Yukina's powers were going wonky because she was reading someone tripping on opium and/or she herself had been in an opium den and was tripping on the fumes. And actually, I like surrealism, so I did like this episode, but... I would have liked it a lot more if it had some frames of reference.

Such as... When in the series is this supposed to have happened? Kazura's there in the beginning, but then he vanishes - was he ever there, or was he part of Yukina's hallucination? Are they in Shanghai or somewhere else? What was the information they were looking for?

Maybe someone else could make better sense of it, but I was left feeling a little flat.

Sounds like it's one of the DVD only episodes, I'll have to track that down since it does sound rather odd.

This episode seems very much like Inception. I think this is a stand alone episode just like episode 5 where it involves Kazura's communist friend. Idk, I'm a bit lost on the sequence of events here.

But this episode is somewhat a character development on Yukina and maybe Natsume.

I did a little research on opium. It's actually the same substance that was used to make heroin. And this drug is a narcotic which means it increases relaxation and induces sleep. It doesn't actually bring hallucinations (unless those guys are smoking weed).

So, I don't think she's under the influence of opium. Maybe her abilities are going a little off a bit due to being exposed with the drug. But I don't think she's hallucinating.

I finally finished this series up after giving up on watching it without subs earlier this year... I'm left wondering what happened to Aoi. I would not have expected him to survive, even with the last of his power, but why was it left so ambiguous? Did he disappear into the night from the plane's wreckage while Kazura searched for him? Who else would have developed the group photo and edited Kazura into it?

Yukina's mention of him was totally ambiguous, too. I want some closure!

The final special is an epilogue and definitely brings some closure. The producers also manage to reference another real life event. Kudos.

Given the ambiguous fate of Kazura, I wish there will a movie sequel. One that has a Casablanca-like plot for the reunion between Kazura and Yukina. And this time have Yukina wear a Cheongsam. The 2nd special does not count >.<

I think that's unlikely going to happen since the period is set in a very controversial era.

I think he might survived or escaped after the rebellion failed (in historical terms) due to his ability. But if he was executed or killed in action, that sucks. Oh well..... If you're hoping for a "movie" with a Casablanca-like plot, there's this 2010 movie entitled Shanghai starring John Cusack. No, it is not related to this anime.
