It looks like a case of "taking itself too seriously". Mortal Kombat's plotline isn't exactly heavy stuff. The first movie was decent because it had a sense of humour.

I don't even know how to wrap my head around that, to be honest

Sounds to me like the studios weren't interested in giving this director a chance, so he made a "fake" trailer to convince them to take him up on it. So it's not nearly a definite thing, but there's a chance it'll see daylight.

I kind of like it actually. With better special effects and better makeup, it could work.

Not couldn't;can't. I also asked a few people around me and two agreed that he's white and three said that he's tanned, but nobody said he's black. Anyway, I'll drop it since we've got different opinions when it comes to colouring :P

I liked the first movie more because it had fast-paced action, with the exception of the final fight, and didn't include the drama or post-apocalyptic world of MKII (not to mention the monsters). I think the third movie could be good, if played out right.

Wow. That's very strange. You're the first person I've ever met that had that perspective.

I liked the video and the fact that sometimes even heroes lose, but the backstory seems a little bit banal. It will be interesting to see how it goes, though, if Scorpion plays as the protagonist.

From what I understand, Scorpion is still gonna be a bad guy. Would've been good if he was on the good side. He'd have made an excellent anti-christ kind of character.

Mortal Kombat characters with origins from everyday society? That just isn't going to work. Unless it's people like Cage, Kang, Blade, Jax, etc.

Ona new note, at the E3, Ed Boon (creator of the Mortal Kombat games) said that he liked a lot the Rebirth trailer and will suport the movie, still, the final desition is up to Warner Brothers studios.

I have mixed feelings about this bad boy... I always liked Scorpion so major points for that. I like the whole reference to Sub-Zero and his brother (a little nod to the whole MK and MK2 game plot). I also surprised how well they made Jax fit and Baraka's history while not canon is sadistically cool and the whole body manipulation is believable considering the extremes some people have gone to!

Negatives... Cage is dead (likely), Reptile's background *just don't like it... of course that's just MHO*, no Kano (yet) and no Liu Kang (granted I always thought he was over-hyped) and where is Raiden.

I understand this is just a movie and not the game, so it is not canon, but I must say that just looking at this as a movie and nothing more, I'd probably go see it. Of course, I'd probably wait to see what people say (not the critics) before I spend my money.

Here's an update about this new Mortal Kombat.

The Bad news? There will be no movie.

The Good news? It's going to be a 10-part "webisode" series which focuses on Jax with all of the original actors from the trailer reprising their roles!
