Because the light novel have stand-alone stories, the anime do a different way.

Even Gainex doing LNs, now you know the industry is REALLY hurting.

Anyway, just read the first two chapters of manga and the biggest impression so far for me is the setting which is intriguing. Should look really nice animated.

Like to add, that I really like the male lead's rogueish design.

If G-Yuusuke does the anime art as well then this will be perfect. Most of the stories are indivdual short stories so I wonder how the anime will connect it.

The overarching plot is quite interesting though.

Also Dalian and Dantalian....I wonder if the demon and the girl are one and the same...

Since it contains 13 episodes, it adapt at least first 4 or 5 volumes of the light novel but with a different order unlike in the light novel.

That would mean virtually everything to date

Release date tentatively July at the earliest.

I guess that means it'll be summer season offering....

That's what Hiroyuki Yamaga said last year.

I'm confused, how is the industry suffering?

For me, it's quite the opposite. It shows me further proof of how strong the influence of light novels in Japan is growing.

Some might even say that its come to a point where LN's and Manga have near equal footing when it comes to a chance for television adaptation.

Read a little of the manga. It seems to be about grimoires and of course the supernatural horror stuff, but more importantly the male lead seems to be the main character, not the goth girl. That’s kind of interesting.

It's confirmed for July release. Saw it on the newly relased vol 7.

^

This. How come no one complains when manga adaptations were the rage in the past and the moment LNs become more prominent the noise starts?

Reminds me of Gosick. No, not the story. I mean, it makes me thinking that Gainax is trying to follow what Bones did.
At least, it looks similar to Gosick when you just look at the cover.

Gainax has had this planned since last year, so they're definitely not trying to copy Bones. I doubt Gainax cares about what anybody does.

The significance has to do with industry perception. In terms of project credibility, the pecking order tends to be something like Original Story > Manga Adaptation > Light Novel Adaptation > Visual Novel Adaptation (I suppose those pachinko related projects would fall near the bottom too).

Typically, you didn't find the top tier studios and directors doing the latter two (exception = KyoAni, who started out doing VN and LN adaptations but has focused on manga since solidifying its position as a top studio). However, with the industry downturn, studios have begun taking on projects they may never have considered animating a few years ago.

Perhaps there's some newfound respect for popular light novels that goes beyond commercial incentives. However, I suspect that attitudes haven't really changed yet. For instance, a respected animator actually raged at AIC for leaving his real name in the credits of an Ore no Imouto episode (some of these people demand that they work on undesirable projects anonymously or under a pseudonym). It didn't matter whether the show was a humungous hit with fans.

^It's laughable how a medium like the manga is held in such high regard when only a small fraction of the stories are worth anything, and even less manage to get an anime eventually. Pretty much the same with the light novels and visual novels.

Kyonai and the moe mangas they keep adapting year after year are not worth anything either, btw. So much for a "top studio".
