MKV but no subtitle?

I can play mkv files on my computer but it has no subtitles. I use windows media player and I have installed the K-lite codec, Windows Essential Codec packs (most recent versions) and DirectVobSub but still no subtitles, even though the video plays perfectly on WMP.

I've been playing mkv files on my computer for years and never had this problem until recently. When I play older mkv files with subtitles that I knew worked before, now doesn't work anymore (no subtitles). Does anyone know what may be the problem? I have Windows Vista.

Use CCCP? Honestly I don't know what causes the problem, but most people on here use this codec pack and media player classic, so I'll just say this before someone else does.
