Yes ,gods is really cruel may be he should be one of Orochi, you know when I saw first ep. I thing this is comedy show however it became to sad story after that but in the last it turn back to comedy again. Great show

I get the feeling that USCPharmacist was making a joke, since "Jeebus" is not the Christian Messiah, but is in fact a Simpsons reference (Homer saying "SAVE ME, JEEBUS!"). Honestly, I'm a little more worried that you use such flame-inviting terms as "sycophants." But as you said, this is not the place for such a discussion.

I like the interpretation that Episodes 1-11 are truly the godless month, and Episode 12 is when the gods return to bring everyone some amount of happiness. Sure, it's deus ex machina (how many times have we used that term, anyway?), but at least it's a pretty thought-provoking and relevant one.

If you're familiar with European folklore, the fairy courts had specific times when they would rule the world. The Seelie fairies ruled in Spring and Summer, and during the Autumn Equinox they would pass rule over to the Unseelie Court, who ruled Autumn and Winter. Taking that analogy and applying it to Kannaduki no Miko, Orochi rules for one month out of every year, or generation, or what-have-you. That time is the "wintertime" of the world, but the gods always come back, and Spring always returns to mankind.

It's really bittersweet when you look at it that way.

Granted, I haven't seen episode 12 yet. And I thoroughly envy you people who can understand Japanese well enough to watch the raw. Can't wait for the subs.

If Chikane gets to be reincarnated one way or another...why couldn't she be reincarnated as "Himemiya Chikane", her old role, again like everyone else instead of a whole new identity?

And unless she's a lot younger than Himeko during the epilogue, she should've been re-born at around the same time Himeko did.

The epilogue probably featured Himeko in university? I mean, it did take place in Tokyo instead of that small town didn't it? So I guess Chikane was given a new identity as some chick in Tokyo...and I still don't understand why. Let her keep her billionaire lifestyle dammit!

Bah, I hate confusing endings...
BTW, I guess the Orochi's not permanetly defeated? The orochi necks leading normal lives seem to imply that it was. But then again the mikos are caught in a never ending cycle right? Or does the Orochi skip a few cycles in between its attacks? The mikos act as sacrifices at the age of sixteen correct? So...IF Himeko was in university during the epilogue, doesn't that mean she(along with Chikane) gets a sort of "break" from her fate this lifetime?

*note* I know hardly any Japanese, so I'm probably way off on my interpretations.

Confusing, how much confusion this last episode created. I wanted to stay careful with comments until the sub is out, but some parts were pretty much clear IMHO.

Spoiler:

1) When they met again in their mechas to defeat Orochi, Chikane held on to Himeko. But that was post-confession. When she was about to die, she returned Souma's hairclip to Himeko, telling her that she shouldn't worry, since Souma and the others would take care of her. As I wrote 4-5 weeks ago, once she returns the hairclip she has given up on Himeko. But this is what triggered Himeko to inquire about Chikane's "mad" confession again, finding out that it was genuine, and making her own confession in return. AFTER this, the Souma chapter was terminally closed.

2) It's fairly obvious to me that at least most characters were reincarnated after the battle. Especially Chikane, but also Souma and the Orochis. I see no reason to believe that Chikane could have been "alive" somehow because she was sealed to her Shrine after her death too. Still, what's 1-2 more reincarnations? They're happy in the end

3) Himeko is looking more mature in the last scene from the way she was animated. It's totally irrelevant what she's doing at that time, it's only visible that she's looking different compared to the scene where she rejected Souma's confession, and where Makie and she were going through the eerily one-sided photo album ... therefore it's safe to conclude that some more time has passed after this.

4) Orochi is a goner. For good.

All things considered, a very solid ending. You'll be disappointed if you were in for the flute or have difficulties with teary romantic scenes. If you don't, it was a great ride ^_^

hehe. we shall never speak of the flute ever again. keke. i love this anime and from what i've heard the ending isn't as bad. though i hate having to wait until the sub comes out. those that have seen the raw r so lucky. i guess patience is virtue but I WANT MY KANNAZUKI NO MIKO.

btw i've been wondering for awhile. why is it kannazuki no miko according to some and kannaduki according to others? from what pronouncation in the anime it's kannazuki isn't it?

well, when you consider it, the gods are not cruel, it's humanity that's the source of cruelty. Orochi is the darkness in humanity, it's the darkness in humanity that wishes the destruction of Earth and turning the world into hell. I guess as mankind "accumulated" enough darkness, Orochi gains enough strength to break the seal of the gods. And in this sense you can never really kill Orochi once and for all, so Orochi can only be sealed, but never completely destroyed. thus

Spoiler:

the mikos have to suffer the endless cycles of sealing -> seal broken -> fight -> separation -> sealing, as long as there is darkness in human hearts. So Chikane and Himeko can't break away from this cycle after all.

However it brings some more questions

how can Chikane become Orochi? What's the darkness in her heart if she's acting so selfless, obviously when she took Orochi into herself, what Orochi said implied that her darkness surpassed all the other guys?

Oh, and it seems there's actually no real #8 Orochi? I thought it was Chikane or Souma's friend but obviously it's not the case...

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by Orochi is a goner for good, but anyway it's clear that Orochi is not killed, but just sealed again. So Orochi will return in the future, when the seal weakens, and the miko incarnations of that time will need to do the fighting and sealing again.

EDIT: oh, and anyone else feels that at the very last scene

One thing I think all anime suffer from is the fact that mortally wounded people can carry on a conversation for more than 30 mins

The worse offender is that guy in JoJo Bizarre Adventure who talks for an entire episode after his brain was pierced....Chikane, you still have a long way to go.

If they do a second series, it'll be a different set of incarnations. Unless by returning to her previous life Chikane has somehow nullified Orochi's seal, thus bringing some conflict into their lives once more. Otherwise, I'd say Himeko and Chikane's story is pretty much finished. The only thing left to say is what happened the night after they were reunited, but that's best left to our imaginations and fanfics, right?

Himeko and Chikane's story is finished, however a lot of stuffs are still unclear, including what the last scene really means. I'm already seeing people writing doujins based on that girl not being the real Chikane but something else
