OMG! That is so cool. I'd love to see what they can do with an OVA. From eps 1 and 2 and 23 I can see XEBEC can put in quality visuals if they want. I also want to see what the hell happens!
That means for the OVA to be made somebody has to survive... I bet you it'll be Maya. Speaking of which we'reo nly 3 eps from the end and still almost *no* mention of Shouko. They really aren't going to reuse her? I'm so glad!

Wow, ep 24 was really a very good set-up episode...
Spoiler:
Cannot wait for next week! 1-hour special! w00t! I agaree with leongsh. They better not drop the ball! It's been getting good and it would suck if the ending was a copout... I personally think the increase in quality throughout the 2nd half of Fafner series should be attributed to the change in scriptwriter. Ubukata Tou surely has done a much better job, no more stupid soliloquys at teh end of every episode... anyone agrees with me? EDIT: Also it seems Toomi's seiyuu, Marika Matsumoto, is a live-aciton drama actor and this is her debut as an anime seiyuu. She recently turned 20. I wonder if they throw you into a seiyuu for a role in a late-night anime, it means that you're already old news? http://dimora.jp/dc/pc/special/marika.html She looks a bit like one of the English/Lit teachers in my school. That's not good.

series dissed
RANT: I can't believe how this series was DISSED on the AnimeNfo site. Gosh DARN those GUNDUM SEED tunnel vision fans...
THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! YA. Just downloaded the raws because the fansubb scene ISN'T for this series. Seems like we have to wait forever!!! Personal Favorite so far is ep 23... AWESOME I might be TOTALLY blond here, but this series really has heart. It's much more 3-d [feeling] to me than, 'look it's a new mech!' anime. My favorite charactors are Toomi and Shouko [sp?] who died early in the series. Last edited by burnttoast; 2004-12-22 at 03:39. |

Thinking about things, this show is in many ways about dissemination of information. I feel the beginning showcased this by carefully giving the viewer scraps of information that only gave more questions, or obscuring the answer to let you wonder about the character of the speaker. The best example of the latter is Kazuki asking Soushi on the docks (or whatever those were) which were more important to him--the pilots or the mecha. You spend a week wondering what Soushi's answer was because a wave covered up his words. I spent a week wondering if Soushi really was such a monster as to find the mecha more important than his (supposed) friends. I give the writers credit for having Soushi go with the crueler answer where you really wonder about the guy's mind. Episode 18 is a great information episode, particularily Toomi Chizuru's trial. We find out that Maya's data's been falsified and she's been living a lie not of her own making. At the end you have Bartlend giving Makabe all this information and saying "it's hopeless." I don't know, that sudden barrage of information about the Fafner program and the kids and what was happening just felt "wrong" compared to the earlier episodes. I have to admit, I love the trial sequence, particularily Tsubaki's testimony. First the camera follows her into the courtroom and the angle communicates the importance and gravity of her word without saying a thing. Barteland's amazement at seeing her adds credence to her being something other than human. Someone's comment "this is like judging gods!" sums up what Tsubaki is to Alvis--she's something beyond human. She sees and knows everything on the island. By that alone, she could be seen as a god. Tsubaki's testimony makes it less of an excuse for a cover up and more legitimate. It seems like a core is far more than simply data storage and island defense systems. When she is introducing herself to the class, what do the characters in her name, Minashiro Tsubaki, mean literally? It might explain what her role is. Samantha |

I just had to whine about this somewhere.
Last night i was in Anime-Empire's irc channel. One of the subbers was watching Fafner raw's and when he had watched episode 24 he spoiled it for everyone. He just told on the channel what is going to happen. Now I feel kind of pissed. And no, it wasn't what you call a "minor" spoiler. Thanks Anime-Empire for subbing this series and also ruining it. |
