Sorry for asking something unusual out of the blue. After watched both Bake and Nise anime, I noticed that Nise is much more comedic and lighthearted than Bake while opposite can be said for Kizu. Therefore, starting from Bake till the latest book available, Koi isn’t it, I’m interested to know how novel fans rate the levels of seriousness for each of the novels from 1 to 5 where:
1 = most lighthearted, comedic, slice of life-ish centered book
5 = most bloody, gore, angst, drama centered book
3 = standard monogatari novel i.e. mix of both or somewhere between 1 and 5
I don’t mind decimal points though if gap is very small but please no spoiler for materials not yet seen in anime. This knowledge can help adjust my expectations accordingly so I can enjoy the most out of monogatari series in case of future adaptations or translations are available. Thanks for the help.

In which novels (1) and (2) occur?

Bake 1 = 3 The Devil arc was kinda bloody and had a certain degree of angst in all three stories
Bake 2 = 2 More light-hearted but there's a bit drama
Kizu = 5 Really bloody and Araragi is really emo in this
Nise 1 = 2 Light-hearted but still problem driven
Nise 2 = 3 Light-hearted in the beginning but shit hits the fan at the end
Neko Kuro = 3 Light-hearted in the beginning but shit hits the fan near the middle
Neko Shiro = 3 A balance between slice-of-life and problem driven
Kabuki = 4 A lot of drama but you get your fair share of laughs
Hana = 3 Almost no laughs, but no gore either. Very story driven.
Otori = 4 A lot of drama and angst but not bloody per-se
Oni = 3 A lot of talking is involved so kinda boring but the ending will make you cry
Koi = 3 Pretty emotional, but not bloody

I think you are a bit misguided Each story usually starts lighthearted and then gets serious towards the end. There can be bittersweet moments without blood, gore, angst and drama, and even the most serious stories do not refrain from fanservice and comedy. In short, a single stat doesn't do much justice to the books.

There should be also other parameters to consider, like how well the book is written. For example, Nise 2 and Kabuki feel a bit dragged, but for me Nise 2 has plenty of good comedy scenes that compensate for that. Kabuki is overall way more dark than many other books though.

Also keep in mind that the adaptation may cut lot of stuff, and you will have problems if your enjoyment comes from specific characters.

Anyway, I would categorize the books like this.

The deepest books are Bake2 (Tsubasa Cat), Nise2, Kizu and NekoKuro.

Books that are serious to the point of being slightly angsty are Hana and Koi.

The darkest books are Kizu, NekoKuro, Kabuki and Otori.

Books with the best mystery component are: Otori, with special mention of NekoKuro, Kabuki, Hana, Oni and Koi.

Books interesting for the psychology of the main character are NekoShiro and Otori.

The best written books are Bake1&2, Kizu, Nise1 and Koi. NekoKuro drags a bit in the beginning, but otherwise it's very intense. Even Hana is overall well written.

Special mention for high level in both comedy and drama: NekoKuro and Oni.

I totally agree about everything here. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Can't help pointing out Otori was mentioned in three very interesting catagories . Thanks anyway to both of you for the helpful tips.

Nope, her hair remains short for quite awhile.

Also interesting theory on the last two ?????. However we already have Kizu site so who knows.

So the last 3 novels are after they graduate from high school?

So Tsubasa has 3 arcs, the other girls 2 arcs, and the sisters 1 arc each.

Tsubasa must have a lot of problems to get the most arcs.

Could be. Just an assumption given how little I know, Tsuki could fill the gap in the timeline between Koi and Hana, covering before and after graduation, with (Zoku)Owari following Hana. After all...

Spoiler for Koi/Hana:

On another note, now I've gotten curious. Was it explained who receives Araragi's second haircut? Either I missed it (seven months between Neko and Hana, it wouldn't surprise me) or it hasn't happened / been mentioned yet.

Quick question omimon, is Tsukihi's "Platinum Mad" line anime only or does she say that in the novel?

"Platinum mad" comes from the novel. All lines are from the novel. In Bake I see they invented something here and there, but Nise is completely faithful.

Actually hearing the dialogue in the anime does wonders for understanding Nisio's wordplay. With my limited understanding of Japanese, I would never have picked up how many times the word nisemono was used while reading the novels or the novel translations.

I believe Kage means shadow. I'm guessing it has something to do with her shadow.
