A lot of the time these flashback arcs can get kind of dull. I never cared too much about the Skypiea Montblanc Norland segment, but this flashback was really good. It was so sad. It's amazing how Oda can make you care about characters that you've only just met.
I got to love that Luffy can never listen to long stories without falling asleep. You know that it Luffy ever heard these stories he's get so angry he'd run off to attack. Luffy never even heard the full story of what happened to Nami. Just the hint that she suffered under Arlong with that pen made him so mad he started wrecking Arlong Park. I love that about him. I wrote up an episode summary for Episode 547 on Anime Vice. Feel free to check it out. It still could use from proofreading, but I was writing quickly. I also have screenshots for the episode there.I update the database there for each episode. Wish I had more time to write summaries, such as this. Quote:

I generally like these flashback parts, although it depends on the specific arc.
I agree this was a good one, Oda was really "on" for this one arc, like with the backstories for Alabaster and Skypiea, there is real humanity here and the anime does a good job of bringing that out. Admittedly, I am eager to see some fists start to fly in the coming weeks though. Also you know Sanji, he's always soft on the ladies probably (DEFINETLEY) to a fault, so I can see why he'd be all harsh. |

One of the things that has been bothering me was that Otohime did not use her haki to dodge the bullet. Yes, it was a shock, but her type of haki should activate automatically, if I recalled correctly.
Oh how I hate to see children cry over the death of their parent, and forcing oneself to smile instead of doing what is natural.

Lol Brook always cracks me up. How did it turn out to be that fight when all this chaos is going on. Though i think Jimbei is being unreasonable right now. How is Luffy going to save his crew going to create more hate against humans when the rest of the country has seen how bad Hordy is? Glad we're finding out about the poneglyph.

I agree with you, ars89. What Jimbei is doing, even though he wanted it this way in the beginning, is unreasonable at this point. Besides, he needs everyone's help in order to defeat that large of a force. He cannot do everything on his own. Also, I doubt the people of the country will feel resentment towards Luffy if he "saves" them from Hordy at this point. If anything, it will bring better relations to have a human save the innocent Fishmen and Mermaids.

And we're back to reality.
So Hordy's got some serious plans. That guy sure made certain people angry. Spouting all those threats and lies for everyone to see was just sleazy and evil. Brook, Zoro, Usopp part was fun to watch ^^ Shirahoshi... it'd be cool if she could use her powers over sea kings to resolve everything.

Couple of stubborn people going to literally go at it and waste their energy. I appreciate what Jimbei wants to do, but he should accept that doing it all himself is beyond reckless. Besides having a united force of humans and fishmen going in there to take down Hody should have enough symbolic value.
Good to prevent Shirahoshi from heading out there since that would create quite the mess. Leaving Sanji there so he can eventually match up against Decken who won't be giving up would be solid. In the end you can't make everyone happy. Better to go in with the most guaranteed chance of success and deal with those who might resent human involvement later.

Have the straw hats save the king and the rest of the crew while Jimbei and Hordy fight it out.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Luffy will utterly defeat Jinbei in the upcoming battle. It would have been better if they both went in, but I guess Luffy, Chopper, Nami, and Robin will be more than enough to free the others and "destroy" Fishman Island.
I wonder if it is possible to have the whole island float up to the surface? Also, there are actually 3 main villains they have to take care of: Hody, child predator... err.. Decken, and Karibuu, who has been kidnapping the mermaids. If anything, I think Hody Jones' priority is to take care of Karibuu, since he represents what Hody is fighting against. However, I have a feeling that Zoro will be the one to slice him up in the end.

The thing i don't get though is time is of the essence since Hordy is wants to execute the king. So i doubt it will be a big fight since if they both went all out it would take a while to determine a winner, though i don't know how much stronger Luffy got.

The drunk swordsman in Fishman's Island is part of Hody's crew, so I didn't count him. We know that the whole crew needs to be defeated, eventually, by the rest of Luffy's crew and the princes. I think the greatest justice is if Shirohoshi calles the Sea Kings, and they ate up Decken and Hody. However, I believe that showhow, the Sea Kings will lift up the whole island to the surface. Btw, Shirahoshi should not be the only one to communicate with the Sea Kings. Doesn't Luffy also have the ability to communicate with all sorts of animals?

I'm utterly disappointed at Jimbei now. After all that, he still wants to continually fight Luffy.
"Yeah, let's continue to hurt each other until the King dies. Then after that, we'll have our counter-attack ready. Yeah, to usurp the new kingdom and become rebels ourselves. Because right now, we are not going to get anything done, and let that evil Hody guy continue to laugh in our face and do whatever he wishes." Yes, the fight was disappointing. If Luffy was serious, we should have easily dodged those punches with his haki. I don't know how much of this was filler, but a lot of things don't make sense. Well, at least Sanji was back to his senses, saying the right things like he normally does, and being goofy just the same. A few weeks back when he asked for Jimbei's blood is a complete 180 from what he says now, which would have been only a few minutes later in One Piece time.

Luffy on par with an Emperor or an Admiral? He is nowhere near that yet. Don't forget that power an emperor has, look at WB, he was already on his death bed when he fought and he obliterated anything in his path, including Akainu. Not only that but there was a balance in the NW with the 4 emperors, so they are either just as strong or have a crew just as strong has he had...and did you see the sheer number of WB crew members and allies he had? And the admirals, not even Ace could beat one. He was evenly matched with Aokiji because they have opposing elements but he couldn't hold a candle to Akainu. Even Rayleigh, Gol D. Roger's second in command, had trouble against Kizaru. If Luffy is currently as strong as Ace was at the time of his death then it is more believable than him being Emperor level. People overestimate the 2 year training too much. Quote:

And yes, this arc for me, is all about how epic Brook has become. Quote:

What's with this underestimation of Jinbe all of a sudden? He is a seasoned pirate, was a soldier, a Warlord and was equal to Ace...Ace, a logia and a commander in WB's crew. You saw how easily he stomped a powered-up Moria and how he handled himself in the war. If anything, Jinbe, Luffy, Zoro and Sanji should all be around the same level of strength...if not Jinbe being a bit stronger. Quote:

Brooks new trick with soul leaving the body was pretty cool.
Those three sure had some LOL time in their cage ^^ Jinbei on the other hand was acting all weird trying to stop Luffy. Hordy totally lost it. He's popping those strength enhancement pills like candy. At least now, thanks to Jinbei, we got the full picture of the situation on the island.
